Character Approvals The characters on this board have been approved by a GM and may be played online, in the world.

Welcome to the Layonara forums!

Layonara is so much more than a game. We started off as a tabletop Dungeons and Dragons campaign more than a decade ago. Since then we have developed into a fantasy world with as much compelling and engrossing detail as you will find anywhere.

Our current showcase is a Neverwinter Nights version of Layonara, where our world comes to life in a finely polished persistent world which you can play free of charge. These forums are set up to support and accentuate our player's experiences, but it goes far beyond that.

After years of passionate effort, our world is so well developed, so detailed, so refined that any of the handbooks, maps, historical accounts, legends, descriptions of artifacts, creature reports, character biographies, short stories, novels, movies and original art which populate these forums can surely serve as resources or inspiration for your own fantasy endeavors, whatever they may be. And our world is endlessly evolving, so resources are frequently added and updated.

There are also years of sage advice and commentary on role-playing, gaming and online community development stored in these forums. If camaraderie is what you seek, we offer that too. Our community is as active and supportive as you're likely to find on the internet. In short, these forums are a resource for you to use for whatever purpose or project brought you here.

We're confident that you will find what you are looking for, and likely, substantially more.

Please be our guest and browse around the forums which are available to you. As you do, keep in mind that you are sampling only a portion of what Layonara has to offer. Membership in our community is free, and allows you to establish a Layonara identity to pose your questions and share your thoughts on the forums. Default New Character Submission - Almannar Cheif

Character: Almannar Cheif
Age: 18
Gender: Male
Class: Paladin
Race: Human
Alignment: Lawful Good
Deity: Toran

Biography:

Height- 5ft 11in
Weight- 165lbs
blue/grey eyes
dark brown hair
a few scattered burn scars along his arms (from accidents at father's shop)
hair is fairly kept
tattoo symbolizing Toran on upper right arm.
wears the ankh around his neck.

Almannar is ready to stand up for what is right and to help those in need. Not being able to stand aside when evil arises, Almannar is very brave.

When not fighting the evils of the land, following orders given by superiors, or worshiping/ helping out at the temple or church, Almannar is very calm and relaxed.

Almannar is from Fort Llast. He grew up here, raised by his father, for his mother had died when he was two from a severe illness. His father was a very stubborn man. He had wanted him to grow up to take over the shop, but Almannar didn't intend to.

As Almannar got older, he and his father argued more and more, so he began running away. However, seeing as he was so young, he usually didn't go far, and found himself usually at the local church of Toran.

This is when Almannar learned about Toran. As he grew, he started to go to the church on a daily basis. Once there Almannar would help the priests and worship Toran. Still not knowing what to do with his life, Almannar continued with helping at his fathers shop and his daily trips to the church.

One day, while Almannar was helping at the church, he had a sudden realization that he wanted to serve Toran as one of his paladins. He went home and shared the news with his father. He was not pleased. They argued and argued for weeks until finally his father came to terms. He knew he could not change Almannar's mind, so he let Almannar take the path he chose.

Immediately after his father approved, he began training with the help of another local paladin, named Tren. Tren helped Almannar become a skilled combatant, for although Almannar grew up around weapons, he did not know how to properly use them. Also, when they werent training in combat skills, they were out helping those in need or at the church. Almannar grew and grew until he had finnaly completed his training as a paladin. Now Almannar is in his 18th year of life and is beginning his life journey as a paladin of Toran.

1-I have read and understood the information available on Toran and I will do my best to RP a paladin of Toran.

2- Almannar knows that all evil must be brought to justice. He feels he must provide protection for those in need, and must uphold the law. Almannar finds that evil shouldn't just be warded in one area but should prevented all over.

3- Almannar proudly wears his ankh and carries his longsword with him at all times.

Oaths

1.Truth, honor, and loyalty are your highest calling. Never deviate from these principles, even if it should mean your death.
2. Never question Toran, nor his priesthood. Your loyalty to your God will be put to the test in a time of trial. Remain steadfast and loyal during that time and all shall be achieved.
3. Aid those that you can, and neither ask nor expect reward. Your valor and honor will bring glory to Toran's name.
4. Do not suffer evil, hatred, or corruption, for these are the greatest sins of mortals. Battle against these sins and those who commit them, but be mindful that there is no shame in retreat, especially to preserve your life and the lives of other innocents around you.
5. Your word is your bond. Keep your word, even should it bring you to death's gate. The faithful of Toran must honor their word and trust in their valor and their God to aid them in keeping their promises. There is no honor in a vow that calls for the death or dishonor of innocents, and such promises may be freely broken.
6. All life is sacred. Rapine, pillaging, and other crimes of war are strictly forbidden to those in Toran's service. Killing should be an act of last resort. Honor your enemies, regardless of their race, even in defeat.
7. Make no demands of others. A knight of Toran should be proud and self sufficient. There is no shame in accepting offers of help, but a Paladin in Toran's service should never reduce himself to beggary or desperate pleas.
8. Unless specifically directed by Toran or his priests, do not enter another god's temple except in times of extreme duress. Even when desperate, you may only enter temples of gods sympathetic to Toran.
9. Remain virtuous and honorable in all ways. Do not participate in anything that would require you to compromise your Code. These are the laws of the Paladin, and those who would treat them lightly are not worthy of the title.

As per the submission guidelines, a Paladin needs the extra oaths attached to the bottom of his submission. He will need this fleshing out before his submission may be considered.

As well you might consider where Almannar was from. One prominent church to Toran is in Fort Llast on Mistone. Some other questions to help flesh the young man out would be: Who was his mother? When did he feel the call to serve Toran with such devout fervor as to be come one of his Paladins? Any anecdotes are also helpful but of course not required!

Feel free to bump this thread when you've made a few edits so that we may introduce Almannar to Layonara.

Hi again!

This is a huge improvement - we'd just like to see a little bit more expansion on his "calling".

First, just a quick reminder - the Gods, on the whole, do not directly intercede in the lives of mortals. That is to say that any "calling" that clerics and paladins feel is not a missive from Toran himself, but rather just a sudden decision that this is what they want to do with their life - serve the All Watching.

So, for his indoctrination - did he train in arms before he took his vows? What did Tren teach him? Is he still on good terms with his teacher? As before, anecdotes are lovely, though not required - but we do need to see a little more detail on one of these holy warriors.

Thanks!

Thank you for the extra work on this.

Your character has been approved.

Server address is west.layonara.com
Password is layoplayer

Some final notes on character creation:
  • Please note that racial adjustments for players with subraces are skin based and thus get applied after getting in game.
  • Only two ability scores can be less than 10 and only one can be less than 8 after racial adjustments
  • Brownies, when selecting a head, the head you choose on the halfling selection will correspond to that numbered head for elves (for example, clicking right 6 times on the head selection during character creation will take the 6th head when clicking right on the elf creation)
  • Half-giants and ogres, please ask for a GM (type /dm Anyone here?) if you would like to change to a custom skin.

Welcome Almannar to Layonara.
