Biography:

Bayard Dawson was born in the town of Hlint in 1412. Bayard's parents, Caspar and Tristana, were local merchants who were known for fair dealings and high quality goods. Caspar would spend time away from Hlint procuring goods for sale in the family's modest shop in town. When he would return, he would regale young Bayard with stories of adventure and excitement. Bayard was never sure if the stories were true and, as he got older, began to suspect that at least a portion of the tales were liberally embellished by his father. Nonetheless, the stories were quite fun and Bayard looked forward to hearing them.

While Caspar was away, Tristana would run the shop. Occasionally, she would hire local adventurers to accompany Caspar on trips she felt were particularly dangerous. This was usually done over the protest of Caspar. Bayard would help out and perform chores around the shop when not attending class at the local schoolhouse. All in all, they led a nice life and were happy.

When Bayard was about twelve, he and some friends were swimming in a pond near town. Bayard ventured out a little further than he should have and soon found himself in some distress. He began to go under the water and screamed for help. As his friends looked on in horror (none would dare try to swim out that far), a young elf who was passing along a nearby road, came running down the small hill, shedding armor, sword and backpack along the way. Without hesitation, he jumped in the water and swam to where Bayard was now drowning. He dragged Bayard back to the shore and shook him vigorously. Bayard coughed up some water and was once again breathing on his own. Bayard remembers seeing the elfs face and hearing the elf say to him, "Today, you were blessed by Aeridin." The elf gathered his things and left without another word.

Bayard never told his parents of this incident and his friends were sworn to secrecy as well. But, Bayard vowed to himself that he would spend his life doing good things for people and trying to help others, just like the nameless elf who came to his aide that day in the pond. Bayard became known around town as a "good boy," always willing to help others and doing random acts of kindness for the aged and infirmed. Caspar and Tristana were very proud of their son.

Bayard also began to learn to use a bow and became an accomplished hunter. His love for the forest grew and he began to develop his skills as a ranger. In his 15th year, Bayard began to accompany his father on some journeys outside of Hlint, but Tristana held him back from the more challenging or dangerous treks. Bayard enjoyed the travels with his father and saw some interesting parts of Mistone. But, he wanted more. He began to think more and more of his near-death experience and the elf who saved him. He wanted do good on a grander scale.

Now that Bayard has turned 19, he feels the urge to venture forth and find others in need and help them. His parents want him to remain in Hlint and take over the family store. But, Bayard feels that he has an as yet unmet calling to pursue. For Bayard, this is only the beginning...
