After years of passionate effort, our world is so well developed, so detailed, so refined that any of the handbooks, maps, historical accounts, legends, descriptions of artifacts, creature reports, character biographies, short stories, novels, movies and original art which populate these forums can surely serve as resources or inspiration for your own fantasy endeavors, whatever they may be. And our world is endlessly evolving, so resources are frequently added and updated.
There are also years of sage advice and commentary on role-playing, gaming and online community development stored in these forums. If camaraderie is what you seek, we offer that too. Our community is as active and supportive as you're likely to find on the internet. In short, these forums are a resource for you to use for whatever purpose or project brought you here.

| New Character Submission - Sera Character: Sera
Age: 20
Gender: Female
Class: Sorcerer
Race: Human
Alignment: Chaotic Good
Deity: None
Biography:
Sera is a shy Human.
She's got crow-black hair, green eyes, and a well-balanced body.
She was born in Luxia, by a rich family, and didn't have a proper childhood. Her parents, being particularly obsessed with her future, wanted to keep her home, practicing magic until they thought she was "ready" to enter the world.
However, her parents died when she was 15, assassinated because of their possessions. In fact, her family was kinda rich, compared to others, and attracted the attention of criminal organizations. The shock caused her an almost total amnesia, and she survived with what she could hunt in woods, where she ran in the night of the event, even if she did not lose communication abilities. She didn't know that other people existed, as she only saw her parents during her 15 years of life. Being so, she's shy, but also curious. A lot curious. Sometimes, her curiosity may even overcome her shyness, and she may for example ask a particular question even without being in confidence.
Now, she doesn't know anymore what to do, so she's just wandering around in search of information on her "previous" identity, to discover something about her lost life. She would like to change people in the world to be a bit more caring for others, as she dislikes egoistic people. She's really shy, but with few really close friends she may open up more, only when she feels like they can do her no harm. In fact, the cause of her shyness is mainly the assassination of her parents. Since that event, she never trusted people who she didn't like at a glance again.
She is now wandering in Luxia, trying to find somewhere to work, as she's tired of living in the woods.

| Re: New Character Submission - Sera Hello Sera,
Afraid you have picked a tough start for your foray into Layonara! Aasimar are a special and rare race upon Layonara. As such we require an explanation that makes it intrinsic to her character to be Aasimar. Sadly however, due to the rules of submission at this time her reasoning (being not of Layonara) is not plausible at this time. The character submission guidelines state clearly that all characters must be of Layonaran origin at this time. The following is the portion pertaining to your situation: Quote:

The biography should include a bit about where your character came from, a bit on their family and its fate as well as illustrate the finer points of why your character acts and thinks as they do. Be creative as we are open to lots of things... unless it gives the character some kind of power or violates our stance on a family friendly server. A character who is the son of the king of a large kingdom or the daughter of a goddess won't most likely be approved. Common sense is always good with this stuff.
We do not accept characters that have any royal, noble or god connections. In the case of tieflings and assimar characters the very most outsider influence they could have would be a 1/8th bloodline and this only with a very well substantiated biography.
Stories must fit into the lore of Layonara. For involved biographies, if you feel so inclined to be creative, the story may have to be first approved by those in charge of Layonara lore. Do not take this as discouragement as many players have helped to color the lore of this world with things in their characters biography. However if it does not fit you may be asked to modify or even abandon the concept.
If you have chosen a special sub race, take the time to fully explain in the bio why the character fits that subrace. For example if you choose to play a gold dwarf, the bio must reflect how that character could be none other than a gold dwarf and not the standard shield dwarf. This would demonstrated in their upbringing, their outlook and their personal history.
Take the time to think of the character idea. There are two reasons we want a bio/description. First reason is that it gives us an idea about what the character is like and we can later read it again to understand the character better and that can help greatly. Another reason is that it's always good when the player knows the character. By taking some time to plan the character and write a bio and describe the character, you get to know your character better. And when you know the character better, it's easier for you to play the character.
The bio doesn't have to be long but is must be sufficient to cover the complexities of the character. A simple lawful good human fighter would not require a biography as long or complex as half giant chaotic neutral one. When in doubt look through approved biographies to get an idea of how they did it. Remember the reason why you're writing it. Of course if you like writing, go ahead and surprise us. The more time you spend on things that have something to do with the character, the better you can play the character.
There are many diverse languages available on Layonara. If you want to request additional ears (ability to in game speak different languages) at creation please make sure you have detailed it clearly within your bio and that your character will have the necessary intelligence required for additional languages. For every stat bonus in intelligence your character may know one additional language (i.e. Intelligence of 12(1) could know one additional language), provided the biography clearly outlines how they would have come to know and learn it. It is not enough to write, Jeramy studied long and hard with his dwarven tutor to gain the ability to speak dwarf if Jeramy is not already a dwarf. The maximum additional languages is 5 and would require an intelligence of 20(5). | In addition, while it is perfectly acceptable for a character to have amnesia we require at least an OOC statement of acknowledgment that you, the player, know that the character's parents are not royalty/nobility, deity or other powerful entity. We do this so that all players start out on equal footing (at least as much as possible).
Some starting places for development may be, her starting location, how she managed through the famine from 1402 to 1420 when the whole world was shrouded in darkness, when (what age) she found herself stricken by the amnesia and any of the little details that may have occurred since then. Another fun portion to explore may be the discovery of her Weave-Gift, as sorcerers tend to discover their innate powers and must work to control them not long after, sometimes having very interesting results in the process!.
I hope these ideas will help you flesh out Sera so that we may set her on her way, roaming the lands of Layonara.

| Re: New Character Submission - Sera Hi there,
This is a great start. Perhaps you can fill in a bit more about her life so far. She may not remember any of it but it would be good to have a short history of her up till now.

| Re: New Character Submission - Sera Hi there, Sera.
Your best bet for locations for her to have been born would be to look at the continents of Mistone and Alindor, as they generally have the least hostile occupants.
We'd also like to see some expansion on her background - her childhood, what trials she went through, at what point she discovered her abilities.
The amnesia is fine, but as it stands, you have her as being 20, with the incident happening in 1418. It is currently 1431, so she was seven when she struck her head and her parents were murdered. She wouldn't have discovered her abilities by that point - sorcerous abilities usually manifest themselves around puberty. It would, in addition, have been difficult for her to survive on her own as a seven year old, with no family, and no memories. You may wish to change either the story or the dates involved.
We know that she dislikes egocentric individuals, but what about her, as a person? Is she friendly, once her shyness is overcome? Will she help people only if no one else does, or will she move first? All these details will help better-establish Sera as a character, and speed approval.
Thanks! Edit: What Jrizz said is good as well - though I think I've duplicated that in the course of mine.

Some final notes on character creation:
- Please note that racial adjustments for players with subraces are skin based and thus get applied after getting in game.
- Only two ability scores can be less than 10 and only one can be less than 8 after racial adjustments
- Brownies, when selecting a head, the head you choose on the halfling selection will correspond to that numbered head for elves (for example, clicking right 6 times on the head selection during character creation will take the 6th head when clicking right on the elf creation)
- Half-giants and ogres, please ask for a GM (type /dm Anyone here?) if you would like to change to a custom skin.
Have fun!
