| Character Approvals The characters on this board have been approved by a GM and may be played online, in the world. | | Welcome to the Layonara forums!
Layonara is so much more than a game. We started off as a tabletop Dungeons and Dragons campaign more than a decade ago. Since then we have developed into a fantasy world with as much compelling and engrossing detail as you will find anywhere.
Our current showcase is a Neverwinter Nights version of Layonara, where our world comes to life in a finely polished persistent world which you can play free of charge. These forums are set up to support and accentuate our player's experiences, but it goes far beyond that.
After years of passionate effort, our world is so well developed, so detailed, so refined that any of the handbooks, maps, historical accounts, legends, descriptions of artifacts, creature reports, character biographies, short stories, novels, movies and original art which populate these forums can surely serve as resources or inspiration for your own fantasy endeavors, whatever they may be. And our world is endlessly evolving, so resources are frequently added and updated.
There are also years of sage advice and commentary on role-playing, gaming and online community development stored in these forums. If camaraderie is what you seek, we offer that too. Our community is as active and supportive as you're likely to find on the internet. In short, these forums are a resource for you to use for whatever purpose or project brought you here.
We're confident that you will find what you are looking for, and likely, substantially more.
Please be our guest and browse around the forums which are available to you. As you do, keep in mind that you are sampling only a portion of what Layonara has to offer. Membership in our community is free, and allows you to establish a Layonara identity to pose your questions and share your thoughts on the forums. | New Character Submission - Sloan Ornir Character: Sloan Ornir
Age: 20
Gender: Male
Class: Ranger
Race: Half Elf
Alignment: Chaotic Good
Deity: Folian S'pae
Biography:
sloan was to start at the begining, a bastard child.
the product of the rape of his wood elf mother by a man from a roaming band
of outlaws.
Selaini, sloans mother had been in the forest for only a few months. she was trying to prove a point to her parents that she was old enough to marry, by going to a remote forrest and establishing herself for a short time. she thought it might only take a few years to convince them. then on a late evening she was careless and was caught by one of the outlaws. thankfully greedy and not willing to share his new find the outlaw did not tell his comrades of what he had done. and so she survived, beaten and batterd and badly disturbed. Sloans mother fled even deeper into the forrest seeking its protection. and of course 9 months later I came into the world, a small crying half breed a constant reminder to my mother of what had been done to her.
my mother was all of my world. she taught me all I needed to know. how to hunt, trap, make what I needed from the earth and survive in the forrest and mountians. I learned of our patron in the forrest Folian S'pae year after year I grew and learned from my mother. A little at a time over the years I had learned of the situation of my birth from my mother. the shame of her situation and her sense of duty to me that had kept her from her homeland for the entire length of my life.
I did not see another human or elf untill I was nearly 12 years old. it was an old man, his name was baily. odd that just baily, I never knew if he had another name or if he had any past other than his time in the woods. it took nearly three months of him being near us before my mother would allow me to even talk to him. he was a human after all. it turned out he was a ranger in the service of Folian. slowly over the next few years I began to learn more and more of the ways of the woods and of nature and the ways of the rangers. baily was like a father to me. seven years later the day after I burried baily at the base of a elm tree just as he had asked me. I told my mother I was going to leave. we didnt speak much not even growing up. I spoke her tounge, and thanks to baily I spoke the common tounge as well. she had been speaking of going home for a few years. but didnt know how to deal with me, I was not going to be exactly welcome to her family. but by telling her I was going to leave and not asking to come with her to her family she was relieved of the duty of taking with her.
I kissed my mothers cheek five days later took my pack, sword and short bow, and stoped by baily to ask him to look after my mother on her journey home before I left.

| Re: New Character Submission - Sloan Ornir Hello again Devnullboy,
This is a great submission. I have only two questions. First, the submission seems to hint that you will want the Ear of Elvish, but you do not have it requested here. Half elves begin with the ability to understand but not speak the language. If you are needing the Ear I'd like a bit more development on that score.
The second is mostly a question of one of the most important world events, the fall of Bloodstone causing the 18 years of darkness, famine and wide spread deaths. If you could elaborate on that (as much of the land suffered during this time) a bit to fit with the lore of the world, you should be well on your way!
Thank you in advance for this!

| Re: New Character Submission - Sloan Ornir No problem.
the ear is not important, to understand elvish is enough. i do not need to speak it. that can come later in case he tries to find his mother later in life. either way. common is good enough. ok here is an updated bio

A little at a time over the years I had learned of the situation of my birth from my mother. the shame of her situation and her sense of duty to me that had kept her from her homeland for the entire length of my life.
I remember well the sky's during my child hood. the darkness that seemed to be all there was to it. mother told me of a time when the sky was clear and blue and the sun shone brightly in it. it was hard to believe. there had been a dimness to the sky as long as I had been alive. and oh how the world suffered. we did well mother and I, we never went hungry. the forest provided all of our needs, I still prefer wild game and grains to that they serve in the cities now that I have seen one. but just to let you know, please no mushroom soup. when its dark all day long and they are the most abundant source of food, you tend to fix them every way you can and still you get tired of it.
I did not see another human or elf until I was nearly 12 years old. it was an old man, his name was bailly. odd that just bailly, I never knew if he had another name or if he had any past other than his time in the woods. it took nearly three months of him being near us before my mother would allow me to even talk to him. he was a human after all. it turned out he was a ranger in the service of Folian. slowly over the next few years I began to learn more and more of the ways of the woods and of nature and the ways of the rangers. bailly was like a father to me. seven years later the day after I buried bailly at the base of a elm tree just as he had asked me. I kissed my mothers cheek five days later took my pack, sword and short bow, and stopped by bailly to ask him to look after my mother on her journey home before I left. Oddly enough soon after I left home, withing the year even. the sky slowly began to clear. yeah bailly would be proud of me. I just know it.

Some final notes on character creation:
- Please note that racial adjustments for players with subraces are skin based and thus get applied after getting in game.
- Only two ability scores can be less than 10 and only one can be less than 8 after racial adjustments
- Brownies, when selecting a head, the head you choose on the halfling selection will correspond to that numbered head for elves (for example, clicking right 6 times on the head selection during character creation will take the 6th head when clicking right on the elf creation)
- Half-giants and ogres, please ask for a GM (type /dm Anyone here?) if you would like to change to a custom skin.
Have fun!
