Default New Character Submission- Ophelia Swift cleric of Mist

Full Name: Ophelia Swift
Age: 40
Class(es):Cleric
Race: Halfling
Subrace:
Alignment:CN
Deity:Mist
Domains (if cleric):Air and Water

Biography and Description:

Ophelia stands a towering three and a quarter feet tall and roughly thirty pounds. She has fair skin and dark blue eyes to go long with her innocent face. Her hair is dark red and hangs loosely down her back. Ophelia has a very loud personality and likes to talk first and think later, which tends to get her into a lot of trouble. She has a keen eye for appraisal of goods.

Ophelia grew up in Port Hempstead to a halfing tailor merchant named Regis Swift and his wife Celes. Regis and Celes were not rich but they lived a comfortable life in Port Hempstead. For many years young Ophelia listened to her fathers tales of the sea and his travels to distant lands and one day hoped to accompany him on one of these great adventurers. That is if her quick wit and short temper did not keep her grounded in her room.

During the Dark Ages, Ophelia fathers business was worse for ware, her mother wasn't able to get the same supplies for foods to bake, and yet somehow Opheilia managed to live on less. Much less. In fact there were many days in which she worked on an empty stomach. Helping her father to tailor clothing she'd sometimes sing the old sea chanty's she used to hear at the Hempstead docks, just to drown out the sound of her growling stomach.

All around the city the presence of the Dark Ages was felt by its citizens. Many people were on the streets begging for what food they could find.

Surviving in the Dark Ages taught Ophelia a little about resourcefulness and a lot about one's own inner strength. Although through most of the dark ages she was a child, and eventually a young woman, she learned at an early age how to rely on herself to find food and warmth. Her quick wit and will to survive got her by. Watching others around her succumb to the dark ages,
she quickly learned that only the strong survive.

But it doesn't mean that meager meals and a hard life was always the case, Ophelia like most halflings is a people person and also learned at a young age what some of the decadences were that life had to offer enjoying gifts from Xeen and Ilsare as well the the keen eye and halfling luck she was sure was granted by Deliar.

It wasn't until much later however that she began to embrace strengths granted by Lady Doom's chaotic storms

Eventually the Dark Ages past and Her fathers business picked back up. Regis even started allowing his daughter to accompany him on on his trips.

Sailing on a merchant ship with her father (even if it was in dresses and she wasn't allowed to help) taught her a thing or two about the sea.

Time passed and Ophelia grew into a beautiful and sharp lady and started helping her father haggle the other merchants for better rates on the materials her dad sold. It was on her longest trip, all the way back to Hurm when the fates would turn things on their head. Her father and her had just negotiated with a shrewd merchant in Hurm for a large order of fine cloth, but the thing was the merchant wanted the materials with in a months time. The only trouble with this is that her father had come down with a terrible illness and could not make the trip back to retrieve the large order of of cloth materials. Ophelia persuaded her father to let her go back to Port Hempstead and bring back the goods so that he could stay in Hurm and rest.

So, Ophelia bordered the ship and set sail for Port Hempstead in all haste. Sadly she would never make it there. For on the end of the first week and her ship came into a violent storm and her vessel was tossed back an forth and was pounded by the gale winds and barrage of rain. The mass broke and the ship was starting to fall part. She tried to make for a life boat but a huge wave came across the knocked her from the deck and into the cold icy water below.

The shock of the ice water and the pounding in her head made the struggle seem hopeless. The mind plays tricks when ones lungs start to fill with the seas salt water it seems. For, despite being tossed about in the waves like the mere piece of flotsam that she was, Ophelia saw something in the distance and started to swim towards the visage of a dark woman in a flowing blue dress with wild red hair motioning Ophelia to her..

Her tale changes every time she tells of how she found her self on the small island however. Sometimes it is just the simple motioning of the womans hand and other times it is her calling her name telling her what must she must do.

Broken and bruised from her ordeal Ophelia had awoke on the small island to the tender laugh of another halfling, draped in blue clothing.

"Surprised there is yet life in you lass"

The priestess chimed as she started to bandage a rather bad cut on Ophelia's leg.

"Now then, quit your moving, this will only hurt a bit." The halfling smiles a little coyly.

"The sea had almost had you, maybe she had a reason for letting you slip by those rocks back there eh?"

The halfling priestess of Mist gestures to the jagged rocks that peak out of the surface of the sea, just by where Ophelia washed up unconscious to the shore.

Pain shoots through Ophelia's muscles as she struggles to move again. She was alive, albeit barely. What exactly had just happened she wondered? and why was she spared? The halfling's face fades from view as Ophelia closes her eyes trying to make sense of it all.

When she awakes she finds herself laying in a bed at what appears to be an inn. Her clothes drape over a finely crafted chair and the halfing sitting on the bed finishing up bandaging her arm.

"You ought to be well enough here for a few days" The halfling speaks looking her over

"Wouldn't try and move overly much, with that leg of yours." The halfling continues

"You didn't have any true, but the owner of this place says she'll let you work if off when your getting back to feeling better."

Weakly Ophelia nods glancing to the halfing and to the door way where shadowy figures stand. One tall and muscular leaning on the doorway the other lithe and relaxed holding what appears to be a young child. Ophelia smiles to the figures and hoarsely whispers her thanks. She turns back to the halfing touching her hand gently as she fades back to sleep.

As Ophelia grew strong once more after the wreck of the boat she took it upon herself to seek this new path that was placed before her. Whether it was the visage at sea, the mighty storm or the halfling's passing words that sparked something in her, something in Ophelia had awoken that day and she found herself realizing there was more to life than the humble makings a merchants life could bring. She had seen The Lady' Dooms powers of destruction and for whatever reason lived to tell the tale.

In the following days she spent time at the temple, and eager inquisitive mind learning the ways of Mist and learning to embrace the chaotic nature of the storm.

Ironic as it was, she found herself more at "home" in the chaotic tangle of the church's web, then she ever truly felt with her parents who had prayed to the temple of Deliar. Ophelia even went so far as to ask the priestess there to teach her to wield the mighty flail, one of Mist's favored weapons.

Days turned into weeks and eventually she had repaid her dept. to the Inn keeper by helping to clean the rooms in the small Inn. It wasn't a glorious job at all, but it kept her close to the temple where her mind continued to be filled with stories of Mist's devout. Soon would come the day when she needed to sail back to Hurm, to tell her father she had failed in the shipment, and not only that, how she had found something far more rewarding than the life of a merchant that was once laid out before her. With a soft prayer to Mist, She boarded a vessel to Hurm in search of her father.

Her father, feeling better after his illness was glad to see her at first. Until he realized the ship she just unboarded from was not one from the Merchant's fleet at all. As the questions started in on her, and the short tempered merchant seemed more concerned with the loss of his deal than what the halfling had to say. Ophelia's pulse raised in her chest like thunder as she became angry and the blood ran through her veins like lightening. Without a second thought she shouted back to him, swearing off him and her old home both. His business, and his fortune, for what she saw as her calling.

She boarded a boat back to Leringard when it began to storm once more, tossing the small vessel in the seas. This time she remained on the deck of the vessel, her arm wrapped around the foremast of the ship as the sheets of rain poured against her pale skin. She screamed into the rain, the thunder and the storm. Her voice immediately covered by the sounds of the destruction around her. "To you I pledge my service, Lady Doom. This is my calling" Ophelia rode out the rest of the storm on the deck of the ship finding her way back "home" to the temple in Leringard once more.

1. I have read and understood the information available on Mist and I will do my best to RP a cleric of Mist.

2. Ophelia is learning to see the beauty and fury of the storm, coming to appreciate the wind and the rain also. These phases of Mist are the ones she most admires as she feels they are embodiment the spirit of The Lady of Doom.

3. Ophelia will dress in accordance to Mist's teachings wearing loose light blue clothing and if dress for battle will wear Mist's banner on her shield. Ophelia favors the flail over the morningstar and will adhire to having electrical enchantments to her flail.

****
//I as a player realize that Ophelia did not receive divine intervention of any kind. Whether she thinks the visage was real or not I realize that it is nothing more than a picture in her mind, or a dream she had when she passed out from nearly drowning in the water. Perhaps lack of oxygen to the brain.

Default Re: New Character Submission- Ophelia Swift cleric of Mist

*nods* Sorry for the delay on this one. Had to consult on a few points.

Clearly well thought-out, and thank you, as a Character Approver, for saving time with that disclaimer at the bottom.

I'll assume that the halfling priestess who found her was tougher than she looked, to survive in the somewhat cutthroat temples that Lady Doom appreciates.

We'll also assume that her father disowns her after she swears off his fortune and business, so that she can't, at some point in the future, "see the light".

With these understandings...

Your character has been approved.

Some final notes on character creation:
  • Please note that racial adjustments for players with subraces are skin based and thus get applied after getting in game.
  • Only two ability scores can be less than 10 and only one can be less than 8 after racial adjustments
  • Brownies, when selecting a head, the head you choose on the halfling selection will correspond to that numbered head for elves (for example, clicking right 6 times on the head selection during character creation will take the 6th head when clicking right on the elf creation)
  • Half-giants and ogres, please ask for a GM (type /dm Anyone here?) if you would like to change to a custom skin.

Good luck with this.
