Character Approvals The characters on this board have been approved by a GM and may be played online, in the world.

Welcome to the Layonara forums!

Layonara is so much more than a game. We started off as a tabletop Dungeons and Dragons campaign more than a decade ago. Since then we have developed into a fantasy world with as much compelling and engrossing detail as you will find anywhere.

Our current showcase is a Neverwinter Nights version of Layonara, where our world comes to life in a finely polished persistent world which you can play free of charge. These forums are set up to support and accentuate our player's experiences, but it goes far beyond that.

After years of passionate effort, our world is so well developed, so detailed, so refined that any of the handbooks, maps, historical accounts, legends, descriptions of artifacts, creature reports, character biographies, short stories, novels, movies and original art which populate these forums can surely serve as resources or inspiration for your own fantasy endeavors, whatever they may be. And our world is endlessly evolving, so resources are frequently added and updated.

There are also years of sage advice and commentary on role-playing, gaming and online community development stored in these forums. If camaraderie is what you seek, we offer that too. Our community is as active and supportive as you're likely to find on the internet. In short, these forums are a resource for you to use for whatever purpose or project brought you here.

We're confident that you will find what you are looking for, and likely, substantially more.

Please be our guest and browse around the forums which are available to you. As you do, keep in mind that you are sampling only a portion of what Layonara has to offer. Membership in our community is free, and allows you to establish a Layonara identity to pose your questions and share your thoughts on the forums. Default New Character Submission - Tuggin Sunnytoes

Character: Tuggin Sunnytoes
Age: 22
Gender: Male
Class: Rogue
Race: Halfling
Alignment: Chaotic Good
Deity: Multiple

Biography:

In game description: Before you is a young halfling male. He looks like he's been in more than one fight, but his smile and manner make you think he's more of a scamp than anything else. He has several pockets on his outfit and occassionally absent-mindedly reaches into one, like he's looking for something.

Bio:

Setting: A courtroom near Lan's Port. A young halfling is seated in front of the judge. The courtroom is mostly empty of observers, except for most notably an older halfling woman who looks warmly but sadly at the young one. The judge finishes looking over some papers, then looks up.

"Tuggin Sunnytoes, stand forth! I've reviewed the evidence presented, and considered your record. I'm prepared to pronounce sentence on you for your latest escapade, but I have a few things I'd like to tell you first.

"Mr. Sunnytoes, you've been a guest of our jail several times now, for three weeks, two months, and eight months the latest time. Each time, you've said it would be your last, yet you're sitting here in front of me again. The first time, you 'borrowed' several casks of ale from a pub so you could have your own party. The second, you took a fair amount of True from a merchant in the market. And the third time, you somehow convinced a minor member in one of the merchant houses to turn over to you the profits from a caravan.

"You've bragged that you've been in the private offices of several key businessmen, and taken gold and other small items from them. I've gotten reports from merchants in the market that you're known for picking up small items that aren't carefully watched. And now you've taken the contents of the private chest of one of the leaders of the Charleton House trading company, including an enchanted rapier destined to go to his son when he came of age."

The judge shifted in his chair, leaning back slightly and relaxing a bit.

"On the other hand, your reasons for stealing invariably revolve around two things, good food and drink in the company of your friends, and your desire to know what's behind a lock. When you take gold, you usually spend it quickly on drink and food for you and your friends. The small items you take often become gifts.

"Your first stay in our jail was only supposed to be one week, but on your last day, you somehow managed to get out of your cell. You went to your friend's birthday party, and you returned the next day to finish your sentence. We couldn't let that pass, of course, so you had to spend a couple more weeks. We also had better locks installed.

"You've never threatened anyone, much less injured them. You are a thief, but not a bandit, and not even a particularly greedy one.

"Still, even though you are a good person at heart, you have no respect for authority. You think rules don't apply to you. I would be well advised to put you in jail for at least two years of hard labor. Hopefully, you would learn something from that time to realize that the rules do in fact apply to you."

The halfling lady gasped and sobbed softly. The judge shifted again, leaning forward onto his desk and looking more directly at the halfling.

"Tugs, on a personal note, I know things haven't been exactly easy for you. Your father died years ago, and your older brothers had left home before that. Without a father, your free-spirited nature was left unrestrained and untempered, and you let your curiousity and impulsiveness run free. You've picked up some bad habits over the years, and though you are a good person, you don't think through the consequences of your actions, good or bad. Your mother has always loved you, but your antics are bringing disgrace to your good family name. No one from your family but your mother will associate with you now.

"Though Charleton House believes you have their chosen son's rapier, I don't believe that that is something of interest to you. I think that someone in their company has stolen it, and you are a convenient scapegoat.

"But, I might be wrong. I know that during your last time in our prison, you spent a lot of time with some more hardened criminals. They may have had some effect on your thinking.

"For your mother's sake, I will give you the benefit of the doubt. I will not sentence you to years of hard labor. Instead, a couple of my guards here will accompany you to the harbor. There are several ships leaving port with the turning of the tide in a hour. Be on one of them. Your mother has collected some funds for you to book passage and to get you started on the other end.

"In case I am wrong about you, I do not want to see you in this town for at least seven years, until you have learned something useful and made yourself into a respectable halfling. If you return before then, you will find yourself in prison, and I'm sure Charleton House would love to talk with you about their missing items.

"This is my judgement. May you learn from it, and change your ways."

An interesting submission (though the judge does seem to go into exposition an awful lot, considering that both the defendant and his mother know all the details... )!

If you could clarify that, in fact, Tuggin does not, in this story, have possession of any items that a first level character should not, he should be good to go.

Thanks!

Tuggin does not have any of the items reported missing. He either gave them all away, or did not have them in the first place. He was searched VERY thoroughly before he was allowed to board the ship, just in case.

Sounds good! Citizens of Layonara, watch your valuables.

Your character has been approved.

Server address is west.layonara.com
Password is layoplayer

Some final notes on character creation:
  • Please note that racial adjustments for players with subraces are skin based and thus get applied after getting in game.
  • Only two ability scores can be less than 10 and only one can be less than 8 after racial adjustments
  • Brownies, when selecting a head, the head you choose on the halfling selection will correspond to that numbered head for elves (for example, clicking right 6 times on the head selection during character creation will take the 6th head when clicking right on the elf creation)
  • Half-giants and ogres, please ask for a GM (type /dm Anyone here?) if you would like to change to a custom skin.

Have fun!
