| Character Approvals The characters on this board have been approved by a GM and may be played online, in the world. | | Welcome to the Layonara forums!
Layonara is so much more than a game. We started off as a tabletop Dungeons and Dragons campaign more than a decade ago. Since then we have developed into a fantasy world with as much compelling and engrossing detail as you will find anywhere.
Our current showcase is a Neverwinter Nights version of Layonara, where our world comes to life in a finely polished persistent world which you can play free of charge. These forums are set up to support and accentuate our player's experiences, but it goes far beyond that.
After years of passionate effort, our world is so well developed, so detailed, so refined that any of the handbooks, maps, historical accounts, legends, descriptions of artifacts, creature reports, character biographies, short stories, novels, movies and original art which populate these forums can surely serve as resources or inspiration for your own fantasy endeavors, whatever they may be. And our world is endlessly evolving, so resources are frequently added and updated.
There are also years of sage advice and commentary on role-playing, gaming and online community development stored in these forums. If camaraderie is what you seek, we offer that too. Our community is as active and supportive as you're likely to find on the internet. In short, these forums are a resource for you to use for whatever purpose or project brought you here.
We're confident that you will find what you are looking for, and likely, substantially more.
Please be our guest and browse around the forums which are available to you. As you do, keep in mind that you are sampling only a portion of what Layonara has to offer. | New Character Submission - Tabris Name: Tabris
Age: 18
Race: Human
Class: Fighter
Alignment: Neutral Good
Deity: None
Bio:
Tabris is just a commoner working at an inn in Luxia. Always having cruise control on, he just lets life fly by him, not caring about much. Nothing to do in Luxia, except let the dull days pass by. He's always wondered if there was more to life than just working at this inn. He has no parents but the inn-keepers there took him in and treated him like a son so he was very thankful to them. However, he always seemed a little restless at times.
When he was little, he would always go around asking the customers about the outside world. He was always a hard working kid and he always helped the inn-keeper couple because they brought him in, gave him food, clothing and a place to live. Working hard to pay off his debt to the great people that have kind of adopted him. There are times when adventurers would come and there'd be new people for Tabris to meet but he mostly saw Humans and Halflings. Very few Elves and Dwarves would come by so when they did he'd always be very interested and bother them.
Growing up he became a little more shy and less talkative, always just reading some stories or listening to a bard tell a tale. He imagined or daydreamed that he was one of the heroes in the tales that was helping the poor or stopping an invasion of an army single handedly, but of course all he could do was dream about it because that never could happen with him. He didn't know how to do any of what those heroes did and those heroes were usually very brave and charismatic, something he was not.
One day an old man about 50 or so came to the inn but was very drunk. The kind inn-keepers let him stay the night. The old man didn't have any money on him but he insisted on paying them back for their kindness.
"I may be a bit old, but I can still help around the inn" exclaimed the old man. The old man kept on insisting and the inn-keeper couple had to let him. He brought water in from the well, cut firewood, washed the dishes and clothing. He was quite popular and mothers left their children with him at times and he would take care of the kids and tell them stories. He told stories much like bards did about orcs and goblins and giants and ogres and many many other things and about how there was a war a long time ago.
Turned out he used to be in the war against Bloodstone and then someone asked him,
"Does that mean you know how to fight and stuff?"
The old man smiled and nodded. Of course he knew how to fight. Some of the children were amazed as were some of the older children. They asked him to teach them how to fight too but the old man denied.
"What are you going to do with the knowledge to wield a weapon? You might just fight with each other or hurt others. I won't teach you."
What he said was wise in a way and Tabris took note of that. If he did teach them how to fight then probably when they grew up, they could become bandits and such, and that wouldn't be very good. However he thought that they could also be keepers of the peace, much like the heroes in stories.
In the end, a group of them reasoned with the old man, including Tabris, that they could be defenders of peace and they would only use their knowledge for good. After a while the old man agreed.
"You all may be a little young, but I suppose it won't hurt for me to teach you kids if your thoughts are like that. As long as you keep your promise to be good and not to do bad things with what I teach you, then all will be good. Remember, I am only teaching you how to defend yourselves, you yourselves must learn what's right and what's wrong and protect what you love."
So in the end, the kids were paired up and taught, Tabris being amongst them. After a while, he finally learned how to wield a sword and so did a few others in the town. The old man stayed for a while longer and then he left.
"My debt's been paid, farewell all. Don't forget what I've taught you" he said to the children "Don't sue what you've learned for bad things. You yourself have to decide what's right and wrong." With that he set off with a wave.
Tabris also wanted to travel the world just like him. He had heard many stories and read many stories and now he has learned how to defend himself. The inn-keepers noticed his slight change in behavior and decided to let him go. He was really thankful for them and he should have stayed, but he really wanted to go experience the world.
"I'll be back, I promise" he said to the inn-keeper couple, and with that he set off to travel the world.

| Re: New Character Submission - Tabris Hi there!
A couple small things. On the whole, the submission is very good.
First, for posterity's sake, whether or not he knows who his parents are/were, we need to see the statement from you indicating that they're not of noble/royal/deific descent. (It can be OOC, not part of the story, if you wish.)
Second, Luxia's population was three hundred and sixty before the Dark Ages. I expect the population would be experiencing a resurgence by now (hence the number of children), but it remains a very small town. (A level beneath "one-horse" - "no-horse", perhaps?) This is reflected reasonably well in the story (nothing to do), but do bear it in mind once your character is approved.
Once you have the parent information in place, Tabris ought to be good to go.
Thanks!

| Re: New Character Submission - Tabris Yes of course. Tabris' parents weren't noble, kings, queens, princes, princesses, knights nor does he have any planetouched blood in him or anything of that sort. Just a commoner, always been a commoner, his parents were nameless people. Probably dead and/or will never meet them ever again and if he did he or the parents would never know.
And I knew Luxia was small, just not THAT small, but hey, that's fine too, everyone knows everyone almost. All the more close he is with the people there. Hence he will be back one day, back to his home and kind friends. | | |

| Re: New Character Submission - Tabris Here's Luxia's entry in LORE. (There'll be more detail... soon. I hope.) That might give you a bit of an idea about what the place is like, for when Tabris talks about his home.
With that given to you... Your character has been approved.

Some final notes on character creation:
- Please note that racial adjustments for players with subraces are skin based and thus get applied after getting in game.
- Only two ability scores can be less than 10 and only one can be less than 8 after racial adjustments
- Brownies, when selecting a head, the head you choose on the halfling selection will correspond to that numbered head for elves (for example, clicking right 6 times on the head selection during character creation will take the 6th head when clicking right on the elf creation)
- Half-giants and ogres, please ask for a GM (type /dm Anyone here?) if you would like to change to a custom skin.
Good luck!
