Character Approvals The characters on this board have been approved by a GM and may be played online, in the world.

Welcome to the Layonara forums!

Layonara is so much more than a game. We started off as a tabletop Dungeons and Dragons campaign more than a decade ago. Since then we have developed into a fantasy world with as much compelling and engrossing detail as you will find anywhere.

Our current showcase is a Neverwinter Nights version of Layonara, where our world comes to life in a finely polished persistent world which you can play free of charge. These forums are set up to support and accentuate our player's experiences, but it goes far beyond that.

After years of passionate effort, our world is so well developed, so detailed, so refined that any of the handbooks, maps, historical accounts, legends, descriptions of artifacts, creature reports, character biographies, short stories, novels, movies and original art which populate these forums can surely serve as resources or inspiration for your own fantasy endeavors, whatever they may be. And our world is endlessly evolving, so resources are frequently added and updated.

There are also years of sage advice and commentary on role-playing, gaming and online community development stored in these forums. If camaraderie is what you seek, we offer that too. Our community is as active and supportive as you're likely to find on the internet. In short, these forums are a resource for you to use for whatever purpose or project brought you here.

We're confident that you will find what you are looking for, and likely, substantially more.

Please be our guest and browse around the forums which are available to you. As you do, keep in mind that you are sampling only a portion of what Layonara has to offer. Membership in our community is free, and allows you to establish a Layonara identity to pose your questions and share your thoughts on the forums. Default Request: Khalem's retcon

//I'm sorry to take up more time, but the more I think about Khalem's previous biography, the more I feel he needs a change. If he grew up in the temple in Fort Llast, then he would know some of the characters who frequent there. I'm changing his childhood home back to Beirun, not in a temple but with the local cleric. I'm also trying to make it a little clearer that he should be fairly charismatic. I'll bold out the edited parts.

Character: Khalem
Age: 18
Gender: Male
Class: Cleric
Race: Human
Alignment: Lawful Good
Deity: Toran
Domains: Good War

((Attempt #3))
How did a lowly novice of Toran end up as an adventurer, you ask? Well, if one is to protect the weak, show the strength of The Great Leader and bring evil to justice, then sitting at home won't suffice, now will it?

Khalem had a childhood that was both special and strangely normal. A caravan traveling through White Horn Forest near Beirun in the northern part of Mistone, was ambushed by a band of bandits and brigands. In the initial attack, the bandits managed to kill several of the travelers before the caravan guards got hold of the situation and repelled the attack. Khalem's mother, a servant woman to one of the wealthy merchants, was among the casualties. When the wounded caravan proceeded and came through Beirun, Khalem's father, a caravan guard who couldn't bear the thought of raising him alone in a dark world of despair, sent a prayer to Toran, defender of the weak, left his 2-year-old son in a hay stack and left with the caravan.

When Khalem was found the local cleric, a middle-aged man with no children, bound by his vow to guard the weak and help wherever possible, took him in and raised him as his own.

Khalem was mocked by most of his peers because he had no parents and spent most of his time with the cleric, being educated in both mundane and divine subjects and proved an eager learner, striving to prove himself capable and to make himself useful. Upon reaching adolescence Khalem gained friends among his peers as his company was pleasant and his conversations were enjoyed by young and old a like.

Still, nothing kept Khalem from leaving Beirun upon coming of age. The cleric wanted him to see the world sent Khalem to the temple in Fort Llast to take his vows and become a member of clergy.

Determined to prove his worth by serving The All Watching and improving upon himself by fighting evil where he meets it, Khalem set out to become a rookie adventurer; a cleric of Toran.

-----

It was all done in a bit of a rush (sorry) but I hope it'll do. I wasn't sure if I even needed to request a new approval, but I'd rather be safe than sorry. Hope it's okay.

While this part of his childhood is fine, it's still fairly likely, given the structured nature of the Church of Toran, that the cleric would send the boy to Llast to take his vows. Unless there's some compelling reason that a high-ranked member of the clergy was living in Beirun, of course.

You don't need to submit formally for reapproval, but if you intend to retcon Khalem's story, we do appreciate you running it by us to avoid any oversights in Layonaran lore. Tweak this a bit and we can stamp it approved.

Thanks!

I have no problem with him being sent to Llast to take his vows, or even just to visit the temple of Toran, I just didn't want to him have been brought up there. And no, the old cleric wasn't a high-ranked member of the clergy, just a regular cleric.

I'll edit in the part about him going to Llast as the first stop on his journey, which of course means that he wasn't a cleric until he took his vows. In his journal, the first letter back home would then be a confirmation that the ceremony took place and that Khalem was ready to venture out.
Would that suffice?

That should do it, yes. Make the edit, and we'll give it a quick look-over.
