| New Character Submission - Emry Character: Emry
Age: 217
Gender: Female
Class: Wizard
Race: Elf
Alignment: Chaotic Good
Deity: None
Biography:
Emry was born and raised in a small elven village in the Lanthia Forest. She was born into a simple family life with a loving mother and a neglectful father.
Her mother was a well-skilled tracker and hunter and ways always out in the forest. At first, Emry would tag along; it allowed her to have a chance to be with her mom alone and away from her father. The woodland life was fine, but it was a little boring to her. On short treks through the forest, Emry's mind would wonder about stories she read about in books and fantasies about far away lands. She always dreamed and imagined herself as a powerful mage, so she would read all she could about wizardry.
Emry's father had his own agenda. He was typically out either causing trouble or being in the wrong place at the wrong time. He was in and out of the house all the time, but mostly out. He did not like laws and rules because he had a mean streak in him. He thought he should be able to do as he pleased whenever he wanted to do it. Emry had to deal with local guard always coming to the house to get him or looking for him. All the visits from the guards made Emry a bit resentful towards the authorities. They were usually hateful and made loud demands. She would do what ever it took to get the authorities away as soon as she could, even if it included turning in her father.
When Emry was still young, her mother got pregnant again and gave birth to a little girl. Emry had a little sister, someone she could grow attached to. After several years, their father just ended up not coming home. No one knew if he was killed, thrown in jail for a serious crime or just left for another life. This was a relief to Emry. She would no longer have to put up with his behavior and the guards always coming to the house.
Emry's mother still had her passion for the forest and was a devote follower of Folian S'pae. Emry did not disagree with the ways of Folian, but also did not think that there was any reason to follow a deity. However, her sister took up to the outdoors and the ways of Folian. This made her sister and mother very close. Her sister and mother would spend several weeks at a time together in the forests surviving off the land.
They would take trips to Lake Korinath and their mother would teach her sister about water survival and living from the things that the lake provided. Her sister's skills grew and this pleased their mother a great deal. Unfortunately, her mother was taken from them by an illness. Emry went with her sister to bury their mother on a hill in the forest where the lake could be viewed through the trees.
This left Emry to raise her sister. Since both parents were gone, their grandmother, a talented mage, made frequent visits to check up on them. As their grandmother visited, Emry would inquire more and more about the knowledge of magic. Emry was taught how to read magical books and some scrolls. Of course this always bored her sister, so her sister would go back into the forest and stay gone for a couple of days at a time. Although her and her sister had different interests, they loved each other and were close. They would sit around when they were alone and just talk.
One day her sister came home from a long trek and informed Emry that she was leaving Voltrex. She explained her reasons to Emry. Emry was saddened, but did not want to leave their home and wanted to continue training under their grandmother. Emry wished sister well and told her to stay in touch that she would always be available and that their relationship was strong. Emry watched her sister leave.
Emry does get letters from her sister. She enjoys reading all the things that her sister has seen and done. Until one day, when she felt her training was sufficient and had reached a plateau, her curiosity, the effects of the dark age and the urge to be with her sister during this time got the best of her. She told her grandmother that she was leaving and left the care of their property to their grandmother.
Emry is very intelligent. She gained a lot of knowledge from books that she had read in a nearby library. Once her sister left, Emry would either be with her grandmother or at a library.

| Re: New Character Submission - Emry This is an excellent first submission. Just a few small questions I'd like to see answered, and Emry should be good to go. - Why so old? It takes elves a century, plus a decade, to mature, but Emry's more than twice that old, well into her adulthood. Was her sister born when Emry was almost grown? Did she spend nearly a century studying under her grandmother? (If so, why did she never get beyond cantrips and first-level spells?)
- You have "multiple" under her deity of choice. Which deities does she feel devotion towards?
- From when Emry was two hundred and four, to the age of two hundred and twenty-two, the skies would've been clouded by the debris kicked up at the conclusion of the final battle with Sinthar Bloodstone, when a good chunk of a mountain range was vapourized. This caused a nuclear winter effect throughout Layonara, culminating in the deaths millions through starvation and disease. While Voltrex would've been less ravaged than the rest of Layonara, this could very well have been the impetus that sent Emry chasing after her sister. Regardless, it would have had an impact on Emry, as it did on everyone alive in Layonara at the time.
Once these questions are addressed, Emry should be more or less ready to go. Just a quick note - any elf leaving Voltrex is more or less forbidden to live there again. There could, theoretically, be an exception... but so far, very few have been granted this privilege. So to leave Voltrex would be a life-altering decision... and a one-way trip away from her home. Just so you know what it would be like for Emry to make that choice.
Thanks!

I have some room where I can make her a little younger. Adjusted.
If her sister left home to go adventuring at about 150 (15 in human years), Emry would have to be about 200+ (20 in human years). This would make Emry 50+ when her sister was born. I was thinking a good 50-70 year seperation was a good spread to equate for the dad leaving and the mother dying. Quote: |

| That's an oops. Fixed. Quote: |

| Are you suggesting that I add this to my submission?

| Re: New Character Submission - Emry The point DS is making is that the event (that lasted for many years) would have had some impact on her life. So it needs to be addressed in her submission in some way.

| Re: New Character Submission - Emry It'll do. Bear in mind that for the rest of the world (and a lesser extent, to Voltrex) it was the most traumatic thing to happen in centuries.
As one more note, elves don't age linearly (in a human sense). They mature in 110 years, remain (reasonably) spry for five and a half centuries, and only really start to show the effects of age in their declining years.
With that said: Your character has been approved.

Some final notes on character creation:
- Please note that racial adjustments for players with subraces are skin based and thus get applied after getting in game.
- Only two ability scores can be less than 10 and only one can be less than 8 after racial adjustments
- Brownies, when selecting a head, the head you choose on the halfling selection will correspond to that numbered head for elves (for example, clicking right 6 times on the head selection during character creation will take the 6th head when clicking right on the elf creation)
- Half-giants and ogres, please ask for a GM (type /dm Anyone here?) if you would like to change to a custom skin.
Good luck in-game!
