Character Approvals The characters on this board have been approved by a GM and may be played online, in the world.

Welcome to the Layonara forums!

Layonara is so much more than a game. We started off as a tabletop Dungeons and Dragons campaign more than a decade ago. Since then we have developed into a fantasy world with as much compelling and engrossing detail as you will find anywhere.

Our current showcase is a Neverwinter Nights version of Layonara, where our world comes to life in a finely polished persistent world which you can play free of charge. These forums are set up to support and accentuate our player's experiences, but it goes far beyond that.

After years of passionate effort, our world is so well developed, so detailed, so refined that any of the handbooks, maps, historical accounts, legends, descriptions of artifacts, creature reports, character biographies, short stories, novels, movies and original art which populate these forums can surely serve as resources or inspiration for your own fantasy endeavors, whatever they may be. And our world is endlessly evolving, so resources are frequently added and updated.

There are also years of sage advice and commentary on role-playing, gaming and online community development stored in these forums. If camaraderie is what you seek, we offer that too. Our community is as active and supportive as you're likely to find on the internet. In short, these forums are a resource for you to use for whatever purpose or project brought you here.

We're confident that you will find what you are looking for, and likely, substantially more.

Please be our guest and browse around the forums which are available to you. As you do, keep in mind that you are sampling only a portion of what Layonara has to offer. Membership in our community is free, and allows you to establish a Layonara identity to pose your questions and share your thoughts on the forums. When you join you'll also be able to communicate privately to other members (PMs), establish and respond to polls, upload and download content and access many other special features. Default Atli Hjalmr

Full Name: Alti Hjalmr
Age: 49
Classes: Rogue/Fighter
Race: Dwarf
Alignment: NG
Deity: Dorand
Bio:
Atli was born to an extended family of miners and smiths in a small delve. His childhood was typically Dwarven -- stories of ancient heroes and lost treasures, instruction in the philosophy of Dorand, and a good bit of training and hard work at the smithy -- and he seemed destined to have an uneventful life.

By his adolescence, though, it was obvious to the elders of the Hjalmr clan that Atli didn't quite fit. He was unusually reserved, though when he spoke he was especially gruff, occasionally even sarcastic. He held disruptive political views regarding the choice of leaders in his clan, which disturbed a few rising individuals. Rather than punishment (or execution), as some of the more influential (and frightened) clansmen suggested, the elders saw potential in Atli and sent him to study under Torn Ironfess, a skilled tunnel scout.

Torn, too, saw the potential in Atli. Torn trained him well in the skills necessary to roam the tunnels around and between the delves, watching for signs of orcs or goblins -- or worse. Atli learned to hear his enemies, to spot their traps, to sneak up on them and deliver deadly blows. Stealthy and observant, he excelled at the task. Alone in the tunnels, his social troubles were not important. Despite his temperment, after several years of study, Atli came to consider Torn a true friend, and Torn felt the same.

After years of training and many expeditions, Atli returned home to visit his parents. The delve had changed. Many of the frightened clansmen from his youth were now elders, too many for Atli's liking. It was obvious that many of the others didn't care for the new elders, either, but no one would speak out against them. Atli was determined to make a difference, and went to the forge. He bagan to speak out, loud and strong, against the unpopular elders, trying to convince the crowd that they could make a change. But it was no use; his clansmen were loyal to their system for better or for worse. Disgusted, Atli bid his parents farewell and returned to his home with Torn Ironfess.

A few months later, a handful of tunnel scouts, including Atli and Torn, attacked a small orc encampment. The orcs were surprised and were losing badly, but another group of orcs arrived unexpectedly and evened the battle. Torn and two other scouts were overwhelmed and killed before the battle was won. Distraught over the death of his friend, and disturbed by the events at his home delve, Atli gathered his belongings and set off to seek a better life elsewhere.
