Character Approvals The characters on this board have been approved by a GM and may be played online, in the world.

Welcome to the Layonara forums!

Layonara is so much more than a game. We started off as a tabletop Dungeons and Dragons campaign more than a decade ago. Since then we have developed into a fantasy world with as much compelling and engrossing detail as you will find anywhere.

Our current showcase is a Neverwinter Nights version of Layonara, where our world comes to life in a finely polished persistent world which you can play free of charge. These forums are set up to support and accentuate our player's experiences, but it goes far beyond that.

After years of passionate effort, our world is so well developed, so detailed, so refined that any of the handbooks, maps, historical accounts, legends, descriptions of artifacts, creature reports, character biographies, short stories, novels, movies and original art which populate these forums can surely serve as resources or inspiration for your own fantasy endeavors, whatever they may be. And our world is endlessly evolving, so resources are frequently added and updated.

There are also years of sage advice and commentary on role-playing, gaming and online community development stored in these forums. If camaraderie is what you seek, we offer that too. Our community is as active and supportive as you're likely to find on the internet. In short, these forums are a resource for you to use for whatever purpose or project brought you here.

We're confident that you will find what you are looking for, and likely, substantially more.

Please be our guest and browse around the forums which are available to you. As you do, keep in mind that you are sampling only a portion of what Layonara has to offer. Membership in our community is free, and allows you to establish a Layonara identity to pose your questions and share your thoughts on the forums. Default Heru Kamau

Full Name: Heru Kamau
Age: 22 (estimated)
Class: Bard
Race: Human
Alignment: Chaotic Good
Deity: None (He respects the deities, but does not follow any of them. He is a firm believer in free will over god worship)
Description: Medium height and medium build dark brown skin male. He is bald with a neatly trimmed mustache. His eyes are extremely dark brown, almost black looking. Looking at them gives one the impression that he has black pearls for eyes.

Bio:

I do not know who my parents are or where I was born. What I do remember though is that I started living on the streets of Novena by my wits around the age of 4 (I do not know my true age, so I am guessing). I had help. The older orphans took care of my needs as best as they could and they also trained me in the fine arts of begging and entertaining. Still, the life I led was one without much mirth. We lived day to day and we struggled to survive. We did not have time for much joy making and playing.

I guess at about 12 years of age, a few other orphans and I decided that we wanted to leave our home and make the long trip to one of the famous orphanages. We could not decide on which city to go to. Bastion seemed to be a place where anything was possible and a place where we could easily grow to become rich and powerful one day. Nemoria seemed to be a place where we would finally be able to enjoy our childhood and be safe and secure in our environment. I decided I would go to Nemoria, while the rest decided on Bastion. I guess the thought that got them was the ideal that they would be able to eat all the candy they desire. I on the other hand wanted something more than just sweet delights. I never heard from them guys again. I wonder what happened to them?

Nemoria’s orphanage did supply me with the more secure life I desired, but the teachings I received there seemed to be so dogmatic. I felt like the church members looked down on and even despised anyone who did not hold the same views as they did. Coming from Novena, I was constantly asked if I was a Shade servant. I would deny any service to such force, but I think they never really believed me. Still, I was clothed, fed, and taught how to read and write Common. So, the bigotry was a small price to pay for what I gained over all. Even so, I knew that as soon as I was of the age of majority, I would leave Nemoria for a more open but good society. As soon as the orphanage caretakers deemed me an adult, I would make my trek in search of such a place. Love is great, but love without song and laughter can still cause a life to be dreary.

My first exposure to the great art of Barding was on a class fieldtrip to Bastion. We were there to learn how to become proficient in the use of the shortsword. As a boon, our caretakers took us to a Bard’s performance. It was amazing! The acrobatic displays, the juggling, jokes and mice antics. I was wowed. Most of all, I looked around and I saw that even the stuffy priests were laughing with abandon. “What power!,” I said to myself. To be able to even get our dreary and dry caretakers to laugh is a great thing indeed. I wanted that power for myself. I wanted to be an agent of mirth, song, and dance. I returned to Nemoria with an added goal. That goal being to bring as much thought provoking laughter around me as possible. To cause those to look at themselves and not take themselves too seriously.
