Description:
Flick is small even for a halfling. She wears her red hair in a practical bob. Her emerald eyes turn violet when angered. She adores pretty dresses, but has little opportunity to wear them. Usually she is seen trotting down her village street in - what she calls - her healer's-uniform, with her bag of bandages, poultices etc. slung over her shoulder.
Bio:
Flick was the only child of poor dirtfarmers near Hlint. Disease took her parents when she was just seven. Passing adventurers found the girl grimly scratching in the hard soil, trying to dig a grave. After helping Flick bury her parents, they took her to the nearest temple of Ilsare. The priests found a halfling-widow and fostered Flick with her in exchange for a small sum of gold. She had no love to give Flick, but did teach her the healing arts and to honor Prunilla, the Lady of the Harvest.
The lonely child turned to roaming the hills and forest-paths on her own, enjoying the solitude while looking for the herbs, roots and fungi her foster-mother required. When she was but 16, she returned from one of her excursions, to find her foster-mother gone. She was never to find out what happened to her. Forced to fend for herself, Flick traded her limited healing-skills in exchange for food and other necessities. In time, she progressed from treating fevers, and lancing boils to setting broken bones and delivering babies.
By the time Flick was 29, she had turned into a competent healer. The cheerfull halfling was a familiar sight on the streets of Hlint, trotting along with her bag slung over her shoulder. At night, she lay in her shabby shack, feeling that there had to be more to life than treating in-grown toenails, and lacerations.
And then something happened which is about to change her whole life. After a long and tiring day, a frustrated Flick was having difficulty treating a compound-fracture. Her patient was writhing in agony, his friends, trying to hold him still, looking on in horror as Flick was struggling. In her mind she could see exactly what she was trying to do, but it just wasn't happening. Concentrating on the leg with all her mind, sweat beading her brow, she muttered: "Prunilla, aid me!"
No one was more surprised than Flick, when the shattered bone knitted in her hands. Quickly, she cleaned the wound, and sutured the leg. Refusing thanks and payment, Flick hurried back to her shack. After a long, sleepness night, Flick hurried to the temple of Ilsare and told the priest what had happened.
After a long discussion, Flick returned to her shack knowing that she would never again walk alone, Lady Comfort walked with her. |
