Character Approvals The characters on this board have been approved by a GM and may be played online, in the world.

Welcome to the Layonara forums!

Layonara is so much more than a game. We started off as a tabletop Dungeons and Dragons campaign more than a decade ago. Since then we have developed into a fantasy world with as much compelling and engrossing detail as you will find anywhere.

Our current showcase is a Neverwinter Nights version of Layonara, where our world comes to life in a finely polished persistent world which you can play free of charge. These forums are set up to support and accentuate our player's experiences, but it goes far beyond that.

After years of passionate effort, our world is so well developed, so detailed, so refined that any of the handbooks, maps, historical accounts, legends, descriptions of artifacts, creature reports, character biographies, short stories, novels, movies and original art which populate these forums can surely serve as resources or inspiration for your own fantasy endeavors, whatever they may be. And our world is endlessly evolving, so resources are frequently added and updated.

There are also years of sage advice and commentary on role-playing, gaming and online community development stored in these forums. If camaraderie is what you seek, we offer that too. Our community is as active and supportive as you're likely to find on the internet. In short, these forums are a resource for you to use for whatever purpose or project brought you here.

We're confident that you will find what you are looking for, and likely, substantially more.

Please be our guest and browse around the forums which are available to you. As you do, keep in mind that you are sampling only a portion of what Layonara has to offer. Membership in our community is free, and allows you to establish a Layonara identity to pose your questions and share your thoughts on the forums. Default Duur

Full Name: Duur
Age: 20
Class(es): Fighter
Race: Half-Orc
Subrace: HalfGiant
Alignment: CG
Deity: Aeridin
Domains (if cleric):
Short Bio/Description:

A little over 20 years ago, a Hill Giant raiding party stormed a small hamlet. Several of the giants were killed and the rest driven out. During the raid though a local woman was brutally raped by one of the giant warriors. She survived and later gave birth. Unfortunately the birthing of her half-giant son was too much to endure and she died during child birth.

The captain of the town guard and his caring wife adopted the baby. They named the child Alexander and raised him well. While bigger than the other children, he played well with them. After age 5 though, it was clear that Alexander could never grasp advanced concepts. This was exemplified by the fact that he never refered to himself as anything by Duur. His father and friends adopted his nickname, but his mother refused to call him anything by Alexander.

His father taught him the use of weapons and Duur soon began to help with protection of the town. The captain taught him to always do right, but while Duur always did good, it was his interpretation of good, filtered through his small mind. This sometimes, but not always, actually aligned with the town laws.

Duur also developed a very odd sense of humor and enjoyed jokes and tricks. While they almost always threw Duur into hysterics, others were rarely amused. They tolerated Duur though as he was quite helpful around town. He gladly helped with moving heavy objects and hauling supplies. He also provided quite a force and disuaded many strangers passing through from illicit deeds.

All was well until one day several months ago. Duur was playing with some of the local children and decided to play a joke. He "hid" one of the children by sitting on her. By the time someone found out where the girl was, she was unfortunately dead. His father was the one who found the girl and quickly realized Duur meant no evil and didn't even realize what he had done. He sent Duur home and quickly gathered the girl up.

Before telling the girl's parents or anyone else, he went to Dur and explained what he had done. Dur had killed before on hunts and had even killed a thief who had murdered a local during a botched robbery. He didn't understand how the girl could be dead though as he hadn't tried to kill her. His father tried to explain he had to be VERY careful and while accidents can happen, he must do his best to be careful of children. The captain told Duur he must leave for his own safety. He took some supplies and left immediately.

Shortly after his departure the captain brought the girl to her family and explained he found her dead. He omitted everything about Duur and retired from his position, telling the townspeople he couldn't continue in that role having let a child die on his watch. Many of the townspeople asked after Duur, but he evaded their questions saying he wanted to adventure. He eventually moved with his wife to the outskirts of town, only coming in when needed.

Since then Duur has wandered, doing what he could to get by. His final lesson from his father has led him to not only be careful with children but also any small statured people like halflings and gnomes. Seeing them all as fragile children he aims to protect them not only from himself but any other threats as well.
