Character Approvals The characters on this board have been approved by a GM and may be played online, in the world.

Welcome to the Layonara forums!

Layonara is so much more than a game. We started off as a tabletop Dungeons and Dragons campaign more than a decade ago. Since then we have developed into a fantasy world with as much compelling and engrossing detail as you will find anywhere.

Our current showcase is a Neverwinter Nights version of Layonara, where our world comes to life in a finely polished persistent world which you can play free of charge. These forums are set up to support and accentuate our player's experiences, but it goes far beyond that.

After years of passionate effort, our world is so well developed, so detailed, so refined that any of the handbooks, maps, historical accounts, legends, descriptions of artifacts, creature reports, character biographies, short stories, novels, movies and original art which populate these forums can surely serve as resources or inspiration for your own fantasy endeavors, whatever they may be. And our world is endlessly evolving, so resources are frequently added and updated.

There are also years of sage advice and commentary on role-playing, gaming and online community development stored in these forums. If camaraderie is what you seek, we offer that too. Our community is as active and supportive as you're likely to find on the internet. In short, these forums are a resource for you to use for whatever purpose or project brought you here.

We're confident that you will find what you are looking for, and likely, substantially more.

Please be our guest and browse around the forums which are available to you. As you do, keep in mind that you are sampling only a portion of what Layonara has to offer. Default Nezk Lightshadow

Nezk Lightshadow
Age: 20
Class:Rogue
Race: Goblin
Alignment: CG
Deity: Aeridin/Kithairien
Domains: N\A

Bio: Nezk's adventures began shortly after his 1st birthday. He was the son of a goblin shaman. His tribe had begun raiding and actually doing quite a bit of damage to some nearby human and halfling farms. The farming community sent out a call for help, and one of the heroes that answered the call happened to be a paladin of Aeridin. The protectors that answered the call overwhelmed the goblins, driving them all the way back to their main encampment. The battle inside the encampent was hectic and confused. Nezks father was attacked by the paladin. As the paladin swung his mace around the shaman grabbed the nearest thing to parry the blow. The nearest thing happened to be Nezk's mother. The paladin was full of righteous fury and could not halt the blow in time. The woman managed to turn at the last second taking the brunt of the damage in the chest rather than the head. The shaman was not so lucky. The force of the blow was so great, that even cushioned by the womans body it caved in the shaman's head. The paladin dropped his mace in horror and rushed to the woman's side. As she rattled out her last breath she pointed to a filthy bundle of rags in a pool of blood. "Must Protect" She said in a thick accent.
The paladin, whose name was Calfera Fisbael, rushed to the blanket, intrigued. Wrapped in the blanket he found a small goblin child. Calfera pondered for a moment, he was bound to honor requests for help and to preserve life, but the life of a goblin.... He had to make a decesion quickly for the battle, though winding down, continued. He took the goblin, mounted his horse and rode away. For days Calfera fasted and prayed, meditating on the fate of the child. He continued to feel conflicted, and thought that maybe a temple of Az'atta would be the best place for him. Calfera began his journey to look for such a temple and every night he dreamed of a small child crying in pain, and then crying a final death shriek. Perhaps it was Aeridin, perhaps it was trying to care for an infant far from civilization that caused the nightmares. In any event Calfera decided to keep the child and do his best to raise him.
Thus Nezk grew up under the tutelage of a paladin of Aeridin. Nezk knew he owed his life to Calfera, and he tried his best to live up to the paladins code. It was simply too much for the goblin. It seemed they had rules about rules. Nezk learned to tell the paladin what he wanted to hear. Not to sve himself from punishement, but as Nezk saw it to save Calfera from the pain of having to punish his ward. The two developed a good relationship, but that relationship got strained in civilized areas. Nezk would become nervous around all the people and be unable to follow any directions. The people would see a goblin, and if Calfera were not around they would try to drive him away.
Nezk learned to hide when they came near civilized areas. He would follow his adopted father, and even go into town, but he stayed to the shadows, and tried to go as unnoticed as possible. Inevitably he would be noticed by the rougher sort who would either try to rob him or try to talk him into joining the local "organization", and sometimes both. Nezk was sure that either thing would cause his mentor grief, and so he never mentioned these forays into the shadow world to Calfera. Neither of them liked to stay in one place long, and Nezk never paid enough attention to know directions from one place to another. He would have been content to wander aimlessly forever, but tragedy struck.
On one of his forrays against evil Calfera took a poisoned arrow in the thigh. He rode to the safety of a nearby forest where he died from the poison. Nezk was grief stricken. He pulled the body of his mentor as far as he could into the shadows of the trees so that the enemy would not find them. Then Nezk set about burying his father figure. Due to Nezk's size and strength the grave took a couple of days to dig and refill. After that was done, Nezk said a prayer to Aeridin for his mentor's soul, and sat down for a long cry. Next he took what he could from the supplies of Calfera, and set out for he knew not where.
Unbeknownst to Nezk he was being watched by a very amazed wild elf. The elf had never seen a goblin display that kind of behaviour, so he decided to watch and see what happened. After Nezk spent two weeks litterally walking in circles the wood elf took pity on him and decided to show him out of the forest. Not only would he be helping the goblin, but he would also be getting the goblin out of his woods!
After getting over his terror of the elf appearing out of nowhere Nezk agreed to be led out of the forest. The elf found himself strangley drawn to the disgusting little goblin, and began telling him tales of Kithairien and offering him advice about surviving on his own. Obviously the little guy was going to need all the help he could get.
Nezk feels indebted to both his mentor and his anonymous rescurer from the woods. He has taken everything they both said to heart. At least in his own way. Nezk believes that in order to stay alive he will have to largely stay beneath the notice of those bigger than him. At the same time he believes he needs to help others as he has been helped. So it is that no matter where Nezk goes, hungry children sometimes find that food has appeared almost by magic, or the mother with no clothes for her children will find clothes on her table one morning. When he feels down, or threatened or that he could use a little "luck" Nezk is as likely to pray to Aeridin as he is to Kithairien. Because he does not feel comfortable anywhere Nezk continualy wanders from place to place trying to stay alive, and perhaps make life easier for others in some way they would not expect.

Note: at the appropriate time I would like Nezk to become a shadow dancer as well.

Default RE: Nezk Lightshadow

Approved. When you wish to become a shadowdancer you need to resubmit the bio expanded with his adventures around Layonara that would take him to that direction. Having an up to date character submission thread where the progression can be followed helps a lot in getting a PrC approved.

Remember that the subrace stat adjustments are done after you create the character and enter the game. A goblin will recieve –2 to cha after creation.
