Lushen grew up in a small settlement along the Ro River by the Watcher's Tower. Mainly a small fishing community, the settlement had known name and the few families that lived there existed more like a clan, each taking care of the other. Lushen was about ten years old when the settlement was attacked by marauding goblins. The last time he saw his parents, his father was fighting a goblin and his mother yelled at him to run to the forest and never look back. He did as he was told ...

Two days later Lushen was starving but at least had the river water to help sustain him. From the edge of a tree line, a curious wood elf observed the situation. Not one for seeing innocent people suffer, the elf finally walked up to the lad and offered him food, a bond was instantly formed. It seemed Lushen had a natural affinity for the woods, so Denodread decided to take him in and teach him the ways of the land, for the wood elf was a ranger of Katia and considered the Seilwod Forest his home.

Denodread, or Den for short, taught Luchen all he knew about nature, the land, and the animals. He showed Lushen how to let the woods hide him amidst the shadows and not make sounds while walking on the leaves and twigs lying on the ground. Den taught Lushen how to fight and utilize both hands effectively. Lastly, Den taught Lushen about the ways of life treating people with a kind hearted nature much as he had done to Lushen, aiding the innocent when in need, and following the ways of Katia in all he did. On Lushen's eighteenth birthday, he had learned all there was to learn from Denodread and set off to find a place in life for himself.
