| Character Approvals The characters on this board have been approved by a GM and may be played online, in the world. | | Welcome to the Layonara forums!
Layonara is so much more than a game. We started off as a tabletop Dungeons and Dragons campaign more than a decade ago. Since then we have developed into a fantasy world with as much compelling and engrossing detail as you will find anywhere.
Our current showcase is a Neverwinter Nights version of Layonara, where our world comes to life in a finely polished persistent world which you can play free of charge. These forums are set up to support and accentuate our player's experiences, but it goes far beyond that.
After years of passionate effort, our world is so well developed, so detailed, so refined that any of the handbooks, maps, historical accounts, legends, descriptions of artifacts, creature reports, character biographies, short stories, novels, movies and original art which populate these forums can surely serve as resources or inspiration for your own fantasy endeavors, whatever they may be. And our world is endlessly evolving, so resources are frequently added and updated.
There are also years of sage advice and commentary on role-playing, gaming and online community development stored in these forums. If camaraderie is what you seek, we offer that too. Our community is as active and supportive as you're likely to find on the internet. In short, these forums are a resource for you to use for whatever purpose or project brought you here.
We're confident that you will find what you are looking for, and likely, substantially more.
Please be our guest and browse around the forums which are available to you. As you do, keep in mind that you are sampling only a portion of what Layonara has to offer. Membership in our community is free, and allows you to establish a Layonara identity to pose your questions and share your thoughts on the forums. | Submission: Xhanum e Kambiz Full Name: Parvin Fuladi dar Xhanum e Kambiz
Age: 142
Class: Ranger
Race: Elf
Subrace: WildElf
Alignment: Lawful Neutral
Deity: None
Bio: As the Second Generation of Layonara drew toward its end, Parvin Fuladi was born among a people who would not live to see the Third Generation. For a millenia, war had destroyed Elven kind. Her grandfathers had been killed in the great Dwarven wars. Her father and brothers had been lost defending the fragmented Top Elves from Dark Elven aggression, but their deaths proved to be in vain. Having subdued the Dark Elves at a tremendous cost, Top Elves, finally, turned on one another.
The few remaining Esfehani Elves fled toward distant lands and a distant promise. Their history recalled a division among Elves which had been free of bloodshed. As the Metallic Dragons had retreated centuries earlier, the more spiritual part of her people had pursued them. Now, these few mothers and children, all that remained of a once great culture, set out with nothing more than hope... hope for a welcoming kindred home in a peaceful land.
They arrive and find themselves welcomed, though clearly strangers among their kindred. Much has changed in the centuries of divergence. Though she is still a child, Parvin vividly recalls the carnage of war and the history of bloodshed rehearsed to her so often. The contrast between the destruction in her past and the life in her future is as night and day. Parvin struggles to leave her childhood sorrows behind and embrace the peaceful culture of her new home. She learns their tongue, customs, and religion. She enters adulthood and marries, taking her husbands name and title, Xhanum e Kambiz. She, along with everyone else, is a pious devotee to the Metallic Dragons. She communes with nature and learns of the elements. Unlike most others, however, she can not escape the distractions and violent recallections of her past.
The destruction of her past is now revisited. Sinthar Bloodstone has laid waste to the once peaceful lands of the Metallic Dragons. Once again, Xhanum is driven from her home. Those she loved have been killed or worse. The Esfehani Elves are now, it seems, finally destroyed. Xhanum turns to a life of solitary vagabond survival. She moves by night and hides by day. Her religion is lost. Only the profound truths of nature ground her. Xhanum trusts now in her own flesh - not in a God or a theology.
Having gained limited skill in hiding and movement, she takes to petty theft when necessary, but develops no taste for it. She preferrs to live off the land, avoiding contact with others, and does so for several years. She has observed the comings and goings of those who serve Sinthar. She comes to an understanding that Sinthar is the source of all the destruction she has witnessed.
---and a few thoughts about this character
At this point, I don't know where her story will go, but clearly, Xhanum has a lot to think about, and an important story to tell to the Elves, Dwarves, Men, Gnomes, who continue to fight among themselves even as Sinthar moves on their borders.
As it happens, I speak English, Persian Farsi, and Japanese. I am thinking of mixing in a good bit of Farsi in her speech. That might get annoying for other players, so I'll have to play it by ear, but I think it will help me develop and stay in character. Anyone who plays with me frequently will probably come to recognize several common Farsi (errr Esfehani Elven) words, which will be pretty cool. | | |

| RE: Submission: Xhanum e Kambiz Approved. Welcome to Layonara. But you need to shorten your name by at least half otherwise persistence will not work correctly for your character. Also, we have elven ears in game so you can speak elven with your character. Now, having a different dialect of elven would be okay--just please don't to it on a GM run quest as then the GM's can not understand you either--hehe.
The IP address for the server is 64.127.106.68 and Layonara can be found under Roleplay on Gamespy. The password is layoplayer
Very interesting, you have a knack for writing. I would like to make a request if you don't mind. This sounds like an interesting history could be formed and I would like to see what you come up with. If you are interested please contact EdTheKet here on the forums and he will work with you to get it in the handbook and/or placed on the website. | | |

| RE: Submission: Xhanum e Kambiz Thank you for the approval and for the invitation to explore the back story.
I will shorten this characters name to Parvin. I used to play DAOC, and had two characters from that world that I think will be great to role play. (Xhanum was a female Saracen Paladin and Parvin was a female Elf Ranger)
I will save the name Xhanum for a paladin in the future.
I am spankin' new to NWN. In fact, I just started the training campaign and took my prototype character to lvl 3 last night. So far the game looks like it might be a good fit for me, but I have a ways to go just getting familiar with commands/clicks/menus before I really start to take my first steps as a player. I see that there is a mountain of material to read, and I will get to it, but I'd really like to see some group play soon, so I will probably jump in later tonight even though I am still really wet behind the ears.
I will give some thought to your invitation to explore the back story. I will be more comfortable doing so once I have a chance to become more familiar with the world of Layonara.
Lastly, I would like very much to connect with someone who won't be troubled by OOC private chats about the user interface, character building and D&D rule set info. Although I will pick this all up in time, a helpful hand starting out would be great. Is there an appropriate forum to request such assistance? General maybe? | | |

| Please post this as a seperate topic in General Discussion, something titled "Looking for Game Mechanics Help", then you might be able to hookup with some names who would have the time to help you.
