Character Approvals The characters on this board have been approved by a GM and may be played online, in the world.

Welcome to the Layonara forums!

Layonara is so much more than a game. We started off as a tabletop Dungeons and Dragons campaign more than a decade ago. Since then we have developed into a fantasy world with as much compelling and engrossing detail as you will find anywhere.

Our current showcase is a Neverwinter Nights version of Layonara, where our world comes to life in a finely polished persistent world which you can play free of charge. These forums are set up to support and accentuate our player's experiences, but it goes far beyond that.

After years of passionate effort, our world is so well developed, so detailed, so refined that any of the handbooks, maps, historical accounts, legends, descriptions of artifacts, creature reports, character biographies, short stories, novels, movies and original art which populate these forums can surely serve as resources or inspiration for your own fantasy endeavors, whatever they may be. And our world is endlessly evolving, so resources are frequently added and updated.

There are also years of sage advice and commentary on role-playing, gaming and online community development stored in these forums. If camaraderie is what you seek, we offer that too. Our community is as active and supportive as you're likely to find on the internet. In short, these forums are a resource for you to use for whatever purpose or project brought you here.

We're confident that you will find what you are looking for, and likely, substantially more.

Please be our guest and browse around the forums which are available to you. As you do, keep in mind that you are sampling only a portion of what Layonara has to offer. Membership in our community is free, and allows you to establish a Layonara identity to pose your questions and share your thoughts on the forums. Default Kril Derlin

Full Name: Kril Derlin
Age: 22
Class: Ranger
Race: Human
Alignment: True Neutral
Bio:

Kril Derlin was born to semi-well-to-do parents. They weren't rich, but they were comfortable. Kril was an only child, and had few friends. The friends he did have were of the criminal persuasion. They spent their time running the streets of the city stealing from vendors and terrorizing citizens. At the age of 11 Kril was arrested. He got a "slap on the wrist", but his parents were so disappointed in him that they sent him to live with his uncle in the countryside near Drake. Kril never saw his parents again.

When Kril was 17 he accompanied his uncle on a voyage to Point Harbor on the continent of Rilara. They never made it to Point Harbor. On the way, the ship sunk off the Dragon Isles. Kril's uncle sacrificed himself to save Kril. Kril was washed up on the shores of Veapra. Kril, having heard stories of people disappearing on the Dragon Isles, quickly set to task finding driftwood which he tied together with reeds to fashion a crude raft. Kril spent 4 lonely days on the small make-shift raft, so starved and thirsty that he was near death. All he could think about, aside from the torment of being so alone, was the death of his uncle. He felt (and still does) guilty that his uncle died and he lived. After 4 days floating helplessly on the sea, Kril was picked up by a passing ship, and taken to Port Hampshire, where he wandered aimlessly wondering what to do, eventually finding himself in Velensk.

Kril finally happened across an old man who promised to teach Kril the 'Ways of the Bow/Ranger' in exchange for Kril's help with daily chores. Kril spent 3 years with his mentor, and grew to love him like a father. When Kril was 20, his Mentor grew ill and died. On his deathbed, he gave Kril a letter he had written: It read:

------
Kril,

You have been like a son to me. I have tried my best to train you in the ways of the Ranger, and I have been grateful for your assistance and companionship these years. In gratitude I leave to you all my possessions.
-----

His possessions, as it turned out, was more gold and riches than Kril had ever seen. However, the riches didn't last long. His friends, shady characters that they were, conned Kril into funding a scheme to make them all rich by buying and selling goods from port to port. They couldn't compete with the real shipping companies and merchants, and so Kril quickly lost all his money. He was poor. Kril had never been poor. He didn't know how to make a life with no money. But there was one thing Kril knew. He knew how to rob and steal from his childhood adventures. He got together with his friends and they decided to form a band of renegades. They robbed houses in the dark of night. They held up travelers on the roads. They traveled from city to city stealing whenever and wherever they could.

One night, as he was sleeping, Kril dreamed of his old mentor. His mentor was upset with the way Kril was living his life. The dream seemed so real that Kril awoke suddenly, and was scared and ashamed. The next day Kril told his friends that he was finished being a thief. Of course they called him a traitor and swore to never speak to him again. Kril, though, had made up his mind. He left that day, and vowed to do everything he could to be an honest and honorable man.

Since that day, Kril has been traveling Mistone, sleeping wherever he could find shelter, helping those he found in need. Kril knows he still has the home his mentor left him in Velensk, but he chooses not to go back there. It holds painful memories of his mentor's death.
