Character Approvals The characters on this board have been approved by a GM and may be played online, in the world.

Welcome to the Layonara forums!

Layonara is so much more than a game. We started off as a tabletop Dungeons and Dragons campaign more than a decade ago. Since then we have developed into a fantasy world with as much compelling and engrossing detail as you will find anywhere.

Our current showcase is a Neverwinter Nights version of Layonara, where our world comes to life in a finely polished persistent world which you can play free of charge. These forums are set up to support and accentuate our player's experiences, but it goes far beyond that.

After years of passionate effort, our world is so well developed, so detailed, so refined that any of the handbooks, maps, historical accounts, legends, descriptions of artifacts, creature reports, character biographies, short stories, novels, movies and original art which populate these forums can surely serve as resources or inspiration for your own fantasy endeavors, whatever they may be. And our world is endlessly evolving, so resources are frequently added and updated.

There are also years of sage advice and commentary on role-playing, gaming and online community development stored in these forums. If camaraderie is what you seek, we offer that too. Our community is as active and supportive as you're likely to find on the internet. In short, these forums are a resource for you to use for whatever purpose or project brought you here.

We're confident that you will find what you are looking for, and likely, substantially more.

Please be our guest and browse around the forums which are available to you. As you do, keep in mind that you are sampling only a portion of what Layonara has to offer. Membership in our community is free, and allows you to establish a Layonara identity to pose your questions and share your thoughts on the forums. When you join you'll also be able to communicate privately to other members (PMs), establish and respond to polls, upload and download content and access many other special features. Default Nilyin "Rattleclank" Tuun

Full Name: Nilyin "Rattleclank" Tuun
Age: 65
Class(es): Cleric
Race: Gnome
Subrace: None
Alignment: NG
Deity: Goran
Domains (if cleric): Earth, Knowledge
Short Bio/Description: Nilyin Tuun stands three-and-a-half feet tall and weights forty-three pounds. Deep spun-gold hair seems to erupt from his head. His complexion is fitting to his near-cloistered upbringing; instead of the deep tan his race's flesh shows, his is paler than the norm of his breed. Ice-blue eyes that spark with wonderment seem to spring forth from his face, causing most to notice them first and foremost.

"Rattleclank", his given nickname, comes from his tinkering. Indeed, much of which he assists in making works well, sometimes better than when it started, but often there's a noise, sound, or some other oddity that refuses to be silent about his crafting. A bane to stealthy rogues, to be sure.

Having training by the clergy, he weilds two of his god's domains. Earth, for its precious ore to be smelted and built into inventions, and Knowledge, for harnessing ancient lore, continuing on projects that were stopped for some old, unknown reason. Although the light hammer is a perferred combattive device, the pale gnome finds himself without the martial training for this item, and instead perfers the complex workings of the crossbow.

His gears turn to figure out why and how with just about anything. This encompasses more than simply the mechanical; Nilyin loves bringing his academical pursuits to anything that has parts and runs as a whole. For example, adventuring. "Rattleclank" enjoys the thrill of adventure, to many ends. A party is like cogs in a clock, and he likes to see himself as not only another widget, but also as a grease to keep everything running smoothly.

His ultimate goal is to create something so wonderful, so incredible, that perhaps one day everyone will own one of his inventions and use it regularly. He knows the fame may be fleeting, and some may forget where its origins lie, but so long as what he has made is used (and thanks is given to Goran for it), Nilyin will be more than satisfied.

That is, until, he gets another idea for something even better.
-----
1. I have read and understand Goran's dogma; I know that Nilyin will never knowingly work with agents his god is enemies with, and will show followers of his allies the respect they deserve.
-----
2. His devotion to Goran is thorough, and he staunchly believes in improvisation; a tool can be used to do several jobs, and often times, the thing viewed most worthless by many can be just the right thing to bring success when all that can be seen is failure. The dogma that he least focuses on is sacrifices for science. Sometimes the wrong thing is tossed aside, and often times, it can be the key factor, the missing link in the chain... and it's far too late to do anything about it once it's broken and gone. Sacrifice is foolish unless you know exactly what you're ridding yourself of.
-----
3. Nilyin never took martial training to further his knowledge on how to turn the light hammer into an item of pain. To this end, he will favor a simpler weapon for purposes of defending himself. He still will carry the hammer, but only as an item of repair, crafting or inventing... not as a tool of war.
