| Character Approvals The characters on this board have been approved by a GM and may be played online, in the world. | | Welcome to the Layonara forums!
Layonara is so much more than a game. We started off as a tabletop Dungeons and Dragons campaign more than a decade ago. Since then we have developed into a fantasy world with as much compelling and engrossing detail as you will find anywhere.
Our current showcase is a Neverwinter Nights version of Layonara, where our world comes to life in a finely polished persistent world which you can play free of charge. These forums are set up to support and accentuate our player's experiences, but it goes far beyond that.
After years of passionate effort, our world is so well developed, so detailed, so refined that any of the handbooks, maps, historical accounts, legends, descriptions of artifacts, creature reports, character biographies, short stories, novels, movies and original art which populate these forums can surely serve as resources or inspiration for your own fantasy endeavors, whatever they may be. And our world is endlessly evolving, so resources are frequently added and updated.
There are also years of sage advice and commentary on role-playing, gaming and online community development stored in these forums. If camaraderie is what you seek, we offer that too. Our community is as active and supportive as you're likely to find on the internet. In short, these forums are a resource for you to use for whatever purpose or project brought you here.
We're confident that you will find what you are looking for, and likely, substantially more.
Please be our guest and browse around the forums which are available to you. As you do, keep in mind that you are sampling only a portion of what Layonara has to offer. Membership in our community is free, and allows you to establish a Layonara identity to pose your questions and share your thoughts on the forums. | New character Full Name: Pendar the Hooded One
Age: 20
Class(es): Cleric 1 (will dual in mage)
Race: Half-elf
Subrace: None
Alignment: Neutral Good
Deity: Aragen
Domains (if cleric): Knowledge, travel
Ever since he can remember, Pendar has been traveling the world, seeking knowledge. The son of a happy marriage between a half-elf, Calin the Deft, a roguish character of a somewhat dubious reputation and Whydiani, a simple elf.
By the age of 16, Pendar was inspired by the tales that his father told (some seemed a little unlikely, such as robbing a mayor while he slept in the room with his mistress and then blackmailing the mayor by threatening to tell the mayors wife of his discovery). Others seemed more plausible, especially the time that Calin ran through the streets of Fort Last with his pants on his head. Pendar often tried to mimic his fathers feats (on a much lesser scale, such as stealing some bread or rescuing a cat from a house roof and always wearing a dark grey hooded cloak) but found that he was not suited to those types of exploits and reading about them was much more fun.
What his mother was doing all the time when his father was razing strife was a mystery. Although loving and happy with her family, she was always a little reserved about her past and Pendar would often come across her in the woods lost in though, with a smile on her lips and she would promptly turn the encounter into one of wood-lore or herb-lore. This prompted Pendars’ curiosity to find out more about his mother, which he has never done successfully.
By 18 a chance encounter with a cleric of Lucinda pushed Pendar down a new path. The cleric had been the unfortunate victim of a branch falling from a tree which struck the poor woman on the back of the head. When he revived the young women from her state of unconsciousness using some pungent herbs, Pendar realized he looked upon the most beautiful girl he had ever seen. While she recovered over the next few weeks, the two became close and Pendar learnt many things about her god, the young woman and himself. She even taught him a few tricks of magic and introduced him to a new way of life, that of being a follower of Aragen.
After the encounter with the woman, Pendar became closer to some of the local priests, who worshiped Aragen and were the recipients of a package carried by the woman. They taught about their god and the differences between Lucinda and Aragen. After about a year, Pendar was spending more time at the chapel than around the small farm where he lived.
During this time his thrist for knowledge, both identifying and using it increased. Pendar spent many hours tracking down knowledge and faithfully storing it in the local chapel. He also used the basics of magic taught by his old flame to identify magic and mundane items of interest. The clerics were a little bemused at his attempts to learn the arcane, and assisted by providing a tutor on an infrequent basis to improve his skills. Thsi is one area that Pendar was determined to improve in the future. During his time, Pendar has been relatively protected from harm, although he has been known to fight to obtain knowledge, even if his militant skills were relatively poor.
Pendar respected and adhered to the tennents of his god (//ie, I will follow the dogma of Aragen//), although he also felt strongly that using knowledge was just as important as obtaining and recording it. Some knowledge was obtained and recorded just beacause it was there, even though it was effectively redundant and useless. To Pendar, that seemed to be a waste of effort when there was other, more exciting sources of knowledge that could be found. From the stories that Calin used to tell him, Pendar knew that he would be more than happy to fight for what he believed in.
One summers eve, Pendar returned home to find that his parents had gone. There was no sign of a struggle, the house was boarded up neatly and a note was hidden under a rock where the key used to be kept (the front door was always locked and trapped). The note said;
Dear Pendar,
As we have done before, it is time that you seek your own place in this world. Know that we both love you deeply and when the time comes you will find us. Take care and use the knowledge you have learnt to keep you safe.
Love always,
Whydiani and Calin.
Scribbled underneath by his father was:
What she really means is “Gone adventuring”
Calin
So Pendar began his journey for knowledge. | | |

| RE: New character For him to be approved as a cleric you need to add the information requested here.
Also if you wish him to be approved as a Cleric/Wizard from the start please clearly state so or he will be approved as a Cleric for now. To be approved as a wizard please expand the bio a bit to explain where he learned the basics of arcane.
