'not like that boy! do you want to break another bow, theyre not cheap you know' shouted IronWolf. Istarion sighed, relaxed his arms and then pulled his bow again. Squinting down the arrow at the vaugely man shaped target he stilled his breath and loosed. 'Thats better Bowbane, we may make something out of you yet. Thats enough for one day, lets go back to the camp and prepare some food eh boy'. Istarion knew what this meant, he would do all the work while his master would get drunk.
It hadnt always been like this, when Ironwolfs wife had been alive the camp had been alive with song and laughter, but it had been many years since she had died at the hands of some bandits. She hadnt been his mother but he couldnt remember her, she was just some nameless made pregnant by a passing elven minstrel, who had given him away to anybody willing to take him. That said when Ironwolf was sober and not hungover he still was one of the best rangers in the wild, but normally now he was either drunk or hungover. It was Ironwolf who had given Isty the surname Bowbane after he had accidently overpulled his training bow, tripped over his own feet and fell over snapping it.

'Quietly now boy, we dont want them hearing us do weesh'. 'Master are you sure this is wise, you still seem quite err ill and in no condition to take on these bandits'. In reality Ironwolf was roaring drunk and Isty was worried over the outcome of this fight. 'Nonshense boy theres only 8 of em' with that he let fly, killing one instantly. In the space of three heartbeats he had dropped another three and istarion two. Dropping thier bows the two rangers dropped thier bows and drew thier swords. The battle was swiftly over with the bandits being overmatched. Looking up from the body of his foe Istarion saw his master slowly fall to the ground holding his stomach. Rushing over he could see that it was a death wound.
'Isty me boy, I go to join my beloved. I have been hard on you I know, but you have it in you to become a greater ranger than I for all your halfbreed blood. Go now boy and make me proud'
