Character Approvals The characters on this board have been approved by a GM and may be played online, in the world.

Welcome to the Layonara forums!

Layonara is so much more than a game. We started off as a tabletop Dungeons and Dragons campaign more than a decade ago. Since then we have developed into a fantasy world with as much compelling and engrossing detail as you will find anywhere.

Our current showcase is a Neverwinter Nights version of Layonara, where our world comes to life in a finely polished persistent world which you can play free of charge. These forums are set up to support and accentuate our player's experiences, but it goes far beyond that.

After years of passionate effort, our world is so well developed, so detailed, so refined that any of the handbooks, maps, historical accounts, legends, descriptions of artifacts, creature reports, character biographies, short stories, novels, movies and original art which populate these forums can surely serve as resources or inspiration for your own fantasy endeavors, whatever they may be. And our world is endlessly evolving, so resources are frequently added and updated.

There are also years of sage advice and commentary on role-playing, gaming and online community development stored in these forums. If camaraderie is what you seek, we offer that too. Our community is as active and supportive as you're likely to find on the internet. In short, these forums are a resource for you to use for whatever purpose or project brought you here.

We're confident that you will find what you are looking for, and likely, substantially more.

Please be our guest and browse around the forums which are available to you. As you do, keep in mind that you are sampling only a portion of what Layonara has to offer. Membership in our community is free, and allows you to establish a Layonara identity to pose your questions and share your thoughts on the forums. When you join you'll also be able to communicate privately to other members (PMs), establish and respond to polls, upload and download content and access many other special features. Full Name: Thrar Askew
Age: 18
Class: Rouge
Race: Human
Subrace:
Alignment: Chaotic Good
Deity: Shindaleria
Domains: N/A
Short Bio/Description:

Thrar was the only child in a sailor/merchant family. He came from a long line of sailors, and his father had moved his family often between the mainland Dregor and the Island Kingdon of Calishan.

His life at sea lead him far afield. He learned the necessities of life aboard ship - like how to use a cutlass to protect his belongings, how to skewer a rat from 50 feet with a well-thrown dagger, and how to duck when the occasional sword, fist, or arrow came his way.

He also met scores of different races while at sea. He feels he can reasonable talk his way out of bad situations with whomever he has to deal with - from dwarves to orcs.

There were two important events which have come to shape Thrar's life.

The first occured while he was still quite young. His father, more a merchant than the sailors customary in his family, took him to a cemetary in Calishan and to the crypt of his great-grandfather, Elros, a family legend who had close ties with an elven royal family of an island kingdom near Mistone.

Thrar's father manipulated the surface of the stone to reveal a recess holding an object wrapped in a shimmering purple cloth. With trembling hands, Thrar's father shed the cloth to reveal a dull metal disc which seemed to picture a large oak tree standing over a bow and a harp. Disappointed at the disc's dull sheen, Thrar did not sense anything remotely unique or valuable about the item. Yet his father held the disc with reverence and, without talking his eyes off it, told his son "This does not belong to me... or to you, Thrar. It is a marker, a debt, which must and will be repaid. If the obligation is fulfilled in my lifetime, you will know. If I die, you will receive this pledge and have to fulfill the obligation."

Thrar's father then wrapped the disc and placed it back within the crypt. He would speak no more of it on the travel home, and the next day would ignore all questions and treated the situation as if it never happened. Despite Thrar's efforts, his father would say no more.

The second event occurred years later, while Thrar was at sea. He began to hear stories of vile and horrific happenings at his home. Rumors of undead ancestors rising to slay their descendents, and homes being destroyed.

Thrar rushed to his home only to find it long empty and, like the rest of the homes in his villiage, in ruins. No one he knew survived, and though he found charred remains, he did not find a sign of his family. Searching among his torn and charred home, he found a box belong to his father. In it, there was a flat stone and a note which said "Thrar, the debt is now yours".

After days of grief and despair, Thrar traveled to the tomb his father had shown him and used the stone to open the compartment he had seen before. He pulled the disc from the cloth and examined it again. It was the last link to his family and, he somehow knew, held a clue as to what happened to his home. He put the disk in his pack, and grimly set out down the path.

Thrar has spent the time since that fateful day going from port to port, land to land, searching for what happened to his family.

Description: Thrar is of middle height and slightly built with dark features. He has lately been more sullen with his failure to find his family and the disk. He is generally quick to try to prove himself and generally has a good, if sometimes misguided, heart. He also has a sense of wonder for different places and people. He feels most at home at or near the sea.

Note: The disc is not magic in any way (although the charactar Thrar does not know that for certain). It does not have any signficance in the the larger world, but it is important for his fate. I would like a little leeway to explore its significance for him as his character develops)

Approved and leeway given to the character development as long as you acknowledge that the DMs will always have the final say on what happens in the world and what doesn't. Can we delete the other submission thread for the same character? The server IP is 64.127.106.68 and Layonara can be found under Roleplay on Gamespy.
The server password is layoplayer.
