Layonara is so much more than a game. We started off as a tabletop Dungeons and Dragons campaign more than a decade ago. Since then we have developed into a fantasy world with as much compelling and engrossing detail as you will find anywhere.
Our current showcase is a Neverwinter Nights version of Layonara, where our world comes to life in a finely polished persistent world which you can play free of charge. These forums are set up to support and accentuate our player's experiences, but it goes far beyond that.
After years of passionate effort, our world is so well developed, so detailed, so refined that any of the handbooks, maps, historical accounts, legends, descriptions of artifacts, creature reports, character biographies, short stories, novels, movies and original art which populate these forums can surely serve as resources or inspiration for your own fantasy endeavors, whatever they may be. And our world is endlessly evolving, so resources are frequently added and updated.
There are also years of sage advice and commentary on role-playing, gaming and online community development stored in these forums. If camaraderie is what you seek, we offer that too. Our community is as active and supportive as you're likely to find on the internet. In short, these forums are a resource for you to use for whatever purpose or project brought you here.
We're confident that you will find what you are looking for, and likely, substantially more.
Please be our guest and browse around the forums which are available to you. As you do, keep in mind that you are sampling only a portion of what Layonara has to offer. Membership in our community is free, and allows you to establish a Layonara identity to pose your questions and share your thoughts on the forums. When you join you'll also be able to communicate privately to other members (PMs), establish and respond to polls, upload and download content and access many other special features. | CDQ's, GCDQ's, WLDQ's I am a little surprised that I need to post this but it seems I do after reading three disturbing things in the past day, two within the past hour.
Do not request one of these if you do not feel it is necisarry for your character and/or group. The GM team is already swamped with legit requests and when people request things in ways that seem like they are being 'forced' or in ways that just seems like they will 'force' one of these for whatever reason--well it just does not help the community or the team. The team is already quite busy and we really need to concentrate on things that make a difference to a character or group, and not one that is to be run just for the fun or just to be run for general purposes. I really do not want to have to start monitoring and accepting CDQ's at a level more involved and critical than we are now but from what I have seen over the last few weeks, and certainly on this day, it is heading in that direction. Please request with a clear cut purpose and not just 'because'--the team is able to read through the 'because' stuff and from this point foward they will be denied and the player (player) will be denied requests for at least one full month. | | | | The Following User Says Thank You to Leanthar For This Useful Post:

| RE: CDQ's, GCDQ's, ECDQ's I wondered about that.... I've talked to some newer players who seem to think that everyone HAS to apply for a CDQ between 8th and 10th lvl, and that you simply requested the CDQ letting the poor DM figure out what the heck it's for.
I've been under the impression that you request a CDQ when your character is undergoing some major life changing event that requires more than what your character can work out himself or with other PC's. And the character and/or player should have an idea of what that life-changing event is.
I.E. Transitioning to a prestige class is a major life-changing event, but requires training and/or knowledge that a PC is not going to be able come up with unless he is presented just the right situation or curriculum (teacher). Therefore, it requires a CDQ.
A marriage proposal between PC's is a major life-changing event but can be handled among the PC's (unless there were some crazy circumstances like being the first gnome to marry an illithid). Thus, there is really no need for a CDQ here.
Now, this is how I've viewed CDQ's for some time. If I am totally off on this, and all characters are supposed to have a CDQ by 10th or something, etc, please let me know.

| Re: CDQ's, GCDQ's, ECDQ's CDQ Request Rule Changes
Too many people are seeing a CDQ as a way to get a private quest for themselves or their friends. That is not the reason for CDQs, and never has been the reason for them. CDQs are to allow players the extra resources (GM time/guidance/effort) to effect large-scale character changes and development (not minor things). I still hear people comment on how they can't make scheduled quests so they are going to request a CDQ. This can not happen any more, the GM’s bare time is getting eaten away by nonsense CDQ’s, or CDQ’s that just do not need to be run. Please make sure you request a CDQ only if it is needed for a character, not because you want a quest to be run for you or your friends.
Look at the calendar these days, there are a great number of quests and the team is quite large. Unfortunately a lot of the quests are CDQs. If half of the CDQs on the board were not there, then more normal quests could be run and people might be able to fit in more of the scheduled quests—this is one of those catch 22 things that we keep talking about. So again, please make sure you request a CDQ only if it is needed for a character, not because you want a quest to be run for you or your friends.
To remind everybody of the rules for a CDQ and this is going to be strictly enforced—as well we are adding a few changes to the process because of past abuse and team burn out.
1. The player can only have 1 CDQ per 2 month period.
2. The character must be at least level 10 to have a CDQ.
a. The only exception is a character looking to move into a PrC before level 10.
3. The CDQ must have a valid purpose, and this will be enforced by the GM’s running the quest. Don’t request a CDQ just because you want your own personal quest or a quest for your friends.
a. A CDQ to move into a prestige class is valid.
b. A CDQ needing DM intervention to help a character change realize itself is valid.
We need the help from the community on this front. If this system continues to be abused we are going to be forced to drop this system entirely, and that would be a real shame.
So, before requesting a CDQ (or GCDQ), step back and think about things.
1. Is there a real and valid point to the outcome of the quest (good or bad)?
2. Is it needed now?
3. Does it need to have GM involvement at all?
4. Is it such a small CDQ request that in actuality it will just be wasting the time of a GM running the CDQ?
CDQ's can not last more than a total of 6 hours or two game sessions, whichever comes first. On top of that a CDQ must be completed within three RL weeks once the first session has been run.
One last, very important note, all future CDQ’s will not be rewarding any XP to those that participate at the end of the quest. A CDQ is to advance a character in some purpose and that should be the reward. I really hope this keeps CDQ’s what they should be all about—character development—not focused quests “just because”.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

| Re: CDQ's, GCDQ's, WLDQ's Ive been playing a paladin who is wondering what a Champion of toran is and wanted to know more. I was thinking of running a CDQ for him but after sitting down IG and discussing it with a few World leaders (Michaelis and Quantum). I dont think its necessary anymore I felt that my discussion with them was enough at this point and time to warrent me not getting a CDQ to further my character along this path.
I do realize that a CDQ is necessary to fulfill the requrements to take levels in Champion of Toran but I dont plan to take any levels (if i do pass the CDQ's), until after 20th I am now 13th.
I say to those that want a CDQ if its just knowledge do some RP with a WL, flesh out your character more by responding to questions and answers from these World leaders you will gain far more flavor for your character than you could imagine possible.

| For clarification purposes. The two month period refers to when the cdq is completed, not when it was approved correct?

| Re: CDQ's, GCDQ's, WLDQ's That is correct. 2 months from the completion (pass or fail) of the CDQ.
