Full Name: Fenrir Thornaxe
Age: 57
Class: Fighter/Dwarven Defender
Race: Dwarf
Alignment: Lawful Neutral
Deity: Vorax
Domains (if cleric): N/A
Short Bio/Description:
Appearance:
Fenrir is a rugged dwarf who averages of about 4 and 1/2 in height and ~240 pounds. His hair
is dark and so is his beard, which is of enough length to look fearsome, but not get in the
way. Fenrir has broad shoulders and a very strong bodybuild.
Personality:
Fenrir enjoys activities that any normal dwarf likes - drinking, doing battle and standing firmly in the name of his own honor. He has no racial dislikes, but finds gnomes to be very amusing with all their jibberish talk and tiny stature. Fenrir is extremely attached to his possessions and never lets his axe out of his sight. Fenrir is kind at spirit, but still holds the painful memory of his fathers' loss in his heart.
Family:
Fenrir is the firstborn son in a family of 2 brothers and 1 sister. His father was a brave and noble warrior, whose skill with a shield and axe was amazing. A Defender of Bloody Gate was he called, in service of their monarch. Fenrir's mother had her hands full raising the smaller rascals.
His brothers were younger and more interested in armor crafting and studying than in fighting. Fenrir always felt that his siblings were dishonoring their father.
Biography:
Fenrir's family had stayed for generations in the mighty citadel of Bloody Gate. Already from a young age, Fenrir felt that someone needed to step in the shoes of his father. While back then he couldn't even imagine losing his father, only time stood before that fact. Fenrir's father saw such zeal in his eyes and dragged they boy along to trainings, drinkings and expeditions.
At one of these travels, Fenrir was allowed to carry a weapon. Being already a stout young dwarf, he had no problems swinging it and mimicking some moves of the older, more experienced dwarves. Fenrir felt pride and saw it in his fathers eyes aswell. That was the best feeling he had ever felt.
Fenrir was 20 years old when Blood's attack began. Also Bloody Gate had become a rather violent and active spot for conflicts and battles. It was in one of these battles, where Fenrir's father fell. For weeks the Thornaxes mourned their loss, but even though Fenrir's father was honored and a proper burial was organized, Fenrir felt that he had lost his father too early. He wanted to prove himself in his fathers eyes and again see that proud
glare in his father's eyes. Thus Fenrir joined the guard and began his training, harder than ever. Like his father, Fenrir wielded a shield and an axe and prayed only to Vorax, the god of battle.
Years passed and Fenrir felt that he was ready to begin his journey to become even better and gather honor and glory on the name of Thornaxe. A brave dwarf looking to prove himself. Fenrir felt destined to become the best defender of bloody gate and swared to return once he felt his quest was finished. He thought that the first place to go would be Mistone, where all the adventurers head to.
What better way to prove his abilities than join the campaign on Blood...
The next 60 years
-The Beginning-
Fenrir has had his fair share of excitement. Coming to Mistone as a young, rather inexperienced, dwarf, his spirit along with his ambitions have grown noticably. He left the cold confines of Bloody Gate, leaving his family between it's walls, to prove himself to the world, but ultimately his father. It was clear to Fenrir, that he had to become something unique and powerful to live up to his fathers renown in Bloody Gate. This renown was even further inflated, as he felt throughout his years that no matter what he did or how capable in battle he became, he'd never live up to the demigod his father was in his mind.
Robbed of his father, shield and the few coins he set out of Bloody Gate with, Fenrir pushed open the gates of Hlint and over half a century in Layonaran history has passed since that day.
Some idea of Fenrir's mindset can be witnessed in his journal that he has kept for all that time. It was never an autography, but more of a crude map of the alesoaked, metallic mind of a militaristic dwarf. At first it was instrumental for Fenrir to establish his ground and begin to work on his war capabilities. Like every Defender, he had a cause and along with this drive, he picked up the finer arts or crafting. He knew that when all else fails, he had to be able to count on himself to continue and push his cause further. 60 years later, Fenrir has taken the craft of armouring to a whole other level, working the mythic ore of mithril as the prime armourer of a well known trade guild.
Fenrir's journal:
http://forums.layonara.com/developme...-defender.html -The Fenrir within-
Fenrir was but a young and angry dwarf when he left Bloody Gate. As you could imagine, 60 years of war, darkness and constant threat on himself and his family, Fenrir has changed immensely. No longer the way he entered the walls of Hlint.
You see a strong tough dwarf. He has a kindhearted look on his face, yet a troubled soul can be seen when lookin deep in his eyes.
This is how Fenrir entered Hlint, naive, full of hope and promise. Determined to prove himself and assist the world in its struggle against Blood.
If I had to describe him now, it'd be something along these lines:
You see a strong tough dwarf. It is hard to make out his essence, but it is obvious to even the untrained eye, that this dwarf has faced battle
in its rawest form. Clad in impressive armor, axes in reach, his eyes gleam out of the shade of his cowl. A dark presence felt in his voice, it's
clear he's seen his share of horror in his life.
Of course there's much more to it, but Fenrir hasn't been the lighthearted, friendly dwarf, who also was a powerful ally in any incident, for quite some time. The constant drilling, training and pushing himself to the very limits of his existence, has changed him.. immensely. He witnessed the massive clashes of armed forces, took part in skirmishes himself and lost many a friend in the struggle against Blood. He did his best to aid his family in its survival in Bloody Gate, after Blood and once the Darkness settled in. Once the darkness faded, he once again gave precedent to his family, settled them back in the Gate and now is involved in dealing with the next threat the world faces.
Fenrir is methodical. He is blunt, aggressive and rude, but not in an overly threatening manner. Over the decades he has seen his kind killed, manipulated and taunted. This has made him sensitive to his races future and made him a protector of the pride his kin represents, represented and
will represent in the future. Fenrir will stand up to any threat, if it means standing for the pride of his blood. Due to this, Fenrir has few friends, but good friends they are. Together they've battled many a foe, established a well renowned trading company and gathered their fair share of fame throughout the world of Layonara. Fenrir is hardworking, goal oriented and tough in mind and body.
In his evolution of becoming the definition of indestructible (harder than mithril), he has gone through several stages. At first he developed his
technique, then moved on to his stance. After this he was engulfed by the wonder that damage reduction represents. Fenrir always wrote his ability to absorb immense amounts of hurt and pain down as the strength of his will and mind. Once his Defender career was in full blossom, he realized he was still too flawed. This, together with his constant strive to become better than his father, drove him to give up his path as a Defender and round off his weaknesses by inventing his very own battle technique.
It was this battle technique that was upsetting to the Voraxian Defenders, who preferred tradition over eventual might. In a massive quarrel with the Voraxian church, Fenrir departed from their ranks, swearing revenge to one day show them he was right. He still believes he was right, but the flame of vengeance has long since been muffled by Kobal.
Today, Fenrir is in his peak form, looking for grander and more impressive ways to make his mark. He fears no battle and no confrontation. He has
grown (over)confident in his abilities and wants to make sure, that even though he's still young, his knowledge would remain in Layonaran history,
no matter his imminent future.
-The Mark of Fenrir-
While in the confines of his training, Fenrir preferred solitude, it became clear to him, that greater deeds require cooperation, planning and dedication. In his quest to achieve dominance, glory and pride to his name, he has aided with all his might (and brain power on occasion) to help his companions and the world.
In no particular order, Fenrir has participated and aided in the completion of the following events:
Blood Plot
Fenrir was but an inexperienced dwarf, leading his way through life and its obstacles, while the struggle against Blood raged on and on. He participated in several plot related events, which I sadly can't remember much more specifically. It's been a while and the calendar doesn't cover the previous forum. While Fenrir was not present in the finale, he gathered his very first experiences as a warlord in those times, when Vehl (Velensk) was under attack, and a unit was trusted under his yet unproved leadership.

Dragon Storm Plot
- Clearing the Skies -
Fenrir was among the group that entered Ozlo's residence in order to try and clear the skies of the global cloud that was unleashed in the aftermath of Blood's fall. Naturally they succeeded and led the world of Layonara out of the Dark Ages, into an age of rebuilding... and on the brink of the Dragon Storm.
- Fire and Ice -
For three times, has Fenrir now answered to the call of Fisterion. Fenrir is one of the few adventurers, even amongst the hordes of such, he knows, who shows respect to the King of Dragons. Not once has an illminded word come out of Fenrir's mouth when the topic is Fisterion. He knows that Fisterion always has his own agenda, but time and time again has the King of Dragons saved the world from a greater evil. Hold your tongue when you mention Fisterion, Fenrir has learned this in his numerous encounters with the dragon. This was yet another one of these occasions, relating to the newly begun plot...
- Investigating Phal -
An odd mission, but Fenrir was invited by the knighthood of Rofirein to perform reconnaisance on Phal, in suspicion of a Dragon Cult army growing
and dragons being tamed under their power - through magical means. While being undercover has never been Fenrir's forte, he gave valuable insight
and reassurance with his presence, that no matter the success of the event, this dwarf would've stood against the tide to let his allies escape.
- Descending -
Fenrir helped plan the descent into the depths of the Deep, in order to find the Shadow Dragon. While he unfortunately missed the trek, he had eyes and ears down there in form of several close friends and ties that bind.
- An audience on Molten Isle -
After the dreadful outcome of the Descent, Fenrir walked up from the sidelines, tired of keeping tabs on the situation. Things had escalated, with
an impending attack in scheme, he stepped up to give even further guidance to his friends deep in the midst of this chaos. He escorted a group to
council Fisterion (yet again) and offered his wisdom when he could.
- Knowledge in Flight -
Another odd friend of Fenrir's, the Bird Lord Plenarius, swooped down from the skies to tell his tale of past, the fall of Blood and its outcome. Curious, how the new generation of Layonaran heroes deals with the impending doom, Fenrir helped Plenarius tell the tale and see to it, that Plenarius was given the respect he deserves.
Overall Involvement: Fair
Hymn of Krakaria (Chongo)
A series of quests that involved ancient alliances and redemption of ages, took Fenrir and a large band of others to the school of Krakaria. This school withheld promising youth, but also several secrets of the past, which endangered both the children and the world. Fenrir led the adventuring force to victory over the charging giant rampage and was the first to try and stop Hardragh's child of being assasinated - sadly to no avail. Together the band of adventurers rushed after the magical power behind all of it, only to lose it's tracks in the vast lands of Layonara.
Involvement: Large
WLDQ Kobal Bluntaxe (Storm/Pan)
Fenrir helped his good friend and biggest role model cleanse the ruins of his long lost clan. Together with several others of Kobal's finest acquintances, they descended the depths of Norand to reclaim the halls of the Runic Anvil. Fenrir was there to aid on the venture and the climax, which involved the destruction of a Bloodpool.
Involvement: Mediocre
WLDQ Connor Garvill (Storm/Pan)
Even though Fenrir's grasp of magic is fair at best, he has developed quite a number of working friendships with wielders of the Al'Noth. One of these, is Connor. When in need of the cunning dwarven mind and axe to clear the way, only to walk up to yet
another magical contraption, Connor often turned to Kobal and through him, to Fenrir. Fenrir responded to the extent of his abilities and helped Connor learn of his past and become what he his today.
Involvement: Fair
WLDQ Angela Swann (Mixafix)
Angela and Fenrir go a long way back. Fenrir was in Hlint before Angela got there with her twin sister. Fenrir was the person who Angela met in this new and sometimes hostile place called Hlint. Who knew their futures were so tightly knit together.
Such an odd team they are, but the adventuring world of Layonara will struggle to name a more capable duo, who work together so seamlessly despite they're obvious differences in appearance. They are opposites of a polar wrecking ball. One, a normal height, immovable rock, built for biting the
arrows and swords of his opponents and keeping his friends alive. The other, a slightly taller, blonde woman, more graceful than the falling leaves and the hunting cat. Together they've conquered the ends of lands and dungeons unimaginable by even some of the bravest.
Naturally, when Angela set on a quest to reclaim her past in Lor and clear the den of thieves of its unpleasant inhabitants, Fenrir answered and aided her to the extent of his limited negotiation *cough* abilities.
Involvement: Large
Angel's Tear (Storm/Pan)
A massive series that shaped a part of Layonara into what it is today. Fenrir was among the group that was trapped inside the Minaret, in which he
acquainted even further, his current guildmate, Alantha. While the dwarf was obviously out of his league dealing with long lost love between elves
and the divines, he was there to aid his comrades and step up against the numerous dangers present in the Minaret. He was able to gain valuable
allies and form bonds of friendship with several unlikely personalities.
Involvement: Mediocre
The Race to Beat - various dwarven events
During the rough 60 years Fenrir has strolled the aggressive lands of Layonara, he has come across many of his kin, he has formed strong relations with. From clerics of Vorax to Battlemages and bards, he has met and seen them all. Naturally when dwarves gather, there is drinking, tossing and damage involved. The reigning heatbutting champion of Hlint, Fenrir has taken part of several Player Led events involving dwarves, dwarf wannabees
and envious spectators. I, as a player, have said it numerous times - there's no community like the dwarven community, in Layonara, and I'm proud
to have been able to contribute to it with Fenrir.
Involvement: Large
Stort's Keeper - GCDQ and the founding of Stort
Once Fenrir picked up the finer arts of armouring, things were never the same. His skills grew faster than his beard, sometimes due to working
accidents, and it was only a matter of time until his talents were noticed. Thankfully, they were, by the Krashin immigrants who had formed the
Raven Trading Company. As the company grew, so did it's grasp of the market and naturally, a well crafted dwarven armour can only aid to that.
As their empire grew, the members of Raven knew, the next step could only be the foundation of their very own port. After ruthless negotiations
with the native tribes, they acquired the land, resources and workforce to start building Stort. While Stort is far from complete, it is a magnificent sight to gaze upon, in the foggy and rainy swamplands of Alibor.
Involvement: Large
Returning (Harlas)
Another massive series of quests that in its own, shaped Layonara into what it is. This time around, Fenrir was once again dragged into the middle of mystic powers and legendary dimensions, to allow the world to be saved. Rites of passage, tests of wit and fortitude, decisions of grand scale, Fenrir helped the participating group to succeed and envelope some of the power they encountered into themselves - in form of Twilight.
OOC: As a player, this was also one of the most memorable series with Harlas as for the first time I went through an intense quarrel with the GM, which led into a rather electric difference of opinions. However as a player I feel that after solving our differences, I've grown even more fond of the world and have learned to respect the abilities and true sacrifices some of the fine people in this community make to give us this experience.
Involvement: Large
Casino Royale (Pseudonym)
Amongst the behemoth quests and series I've listed here, this little single quest event has been a shining beacon of fond memories and a truly great time, participating in a quest. The humour, the plot itself and the outcomes still have me smirking a smile in reminder. Bows and props to Pseudonym, you rock. I thought I'd use this thread to point that out at the very least.
Involvement: Mediocre
Essrantor's Veil (Chongo) As depicted by Chongo:
http://forums.layonara.com/rumour-ha...roken-arc.html
Quite possibly
THE most important series in Fenrir's time here. Not only was he an instrumental part of the semi-successful liberation of the Thunder Peaks from Essrantor's rule, Fenrir found the remnants of his heritage. While Fenrir has a family and friends, he has never had a clan or ancestry. His past has always culminated with the death of his father, the Losthammer Clan has awakened a deeper part of Fenrir's heart - he has a clan.
Fenrir temporarily (although unknown at that point) sacrificed his earthly body and some of his lifeforce to restore past alliances of elf and dwarf. He was a large part in this whole series and has changed by a large margin ever since.
Involvement: Great
Kobal Bluntaxe CDQ - Spiritsilver (Dezza)
Kobal, being around 100 years older than Fenrir, has always been somewhat of a fatherfigure to Fenrir. As mentioned above, Fenrir would go to the
end of the world for his dearest friends, Kobal is no different. Just another occasion where Kobal needed the helping hand of his kin.
Involvement: Large
Dissolution (EdTheKet)
Another largescaled chain of events, taken place on Voltrex of all places. A dwarf.. on Voltrex... amongst elves.. for months... Needless I say, this summed up into a very interesting plot itself, while offering several serious and humorous happenstances. Fenrir scoured the land of the elves together with his companions to find a reasonable outcome to their dilemmas, but you must understand, elven matters spark little interest in a battleminded dwarf. Very little.
Involvement: Mediocre
WLDQ Arkolio de'Averlain (Mixafix)
The dog that Arkolio is, little to his knowing, Fenrir finds himself to have much in common with the dog. Due to this, he went to help Arkolio reveal his greater destiny on Layonara. There is no question the dog has superior motives to the wellbeing of the world, Fenrir will no doubt lend his hand if asked.
Involvement: Fair
-Fenrir's interests-
Raven Trade Company
As mentioned before, Raven, even though created before Fenrir joined, has been a mindchild of his for decades now. He has furthered himself and helped his guildmates as well, all for the wellsake of the guild. While not a head figure in the guilds business, he has accumulated a reasonable amount of wealth and respect amongst the merchants to venture other prospects of his own.
Vorax
Important to Fenrir throughout his whole life, rather recently Fenrir revoked his faith into the God of War. While mostly forced into dismissal by the followers of the god, Fenrir himself quietly still believes that Vorax knows better and will claim Fenrir into his fortress once the day comes. Even though his past has seen him in large quarrels with fellow dwarves over this, he has smoothed it out now and lives in harmony with the good friends in Vorax' ranks he knows he can trust.
Rofirein
As the god of law and justice, this Dragon is another prominent figure in Fenrir's life. Even though most dont know this, the fervor of Kobal, Jennara and even Sasha has rubbed of on Fenrir. This belief in law above chaos has led Fenrir into many ordeals to battle both the evil and the good in order to maintain justice.
Beryl
While in everyday life, Fenrir finds gnomes utterly humorous and allout funny, Beryl is one of the three gods in his heart and soul. Again, influenced by companions, Fenrir has gone through several stages of acceptance of Beryl. As it stands, Beryl is the part of Fenrir's holy trinity. War-Justice-Toughness. That's right, Fenrir finds much in common with the various riches of the earth, but he assimilates with the indestructiveness of it's deepest secrets, rather than lucrative measures.
The Grey Circle
Once invited into this group by Kobal, it lies dormant and stands for all that is good in Layonara. Justice. While Fenrir has not done much for the group, he is still a member of it.
Battle Academy
An idea of Fenrir's that slowly yet steadily creeps towards birth. He has the knowledge, he has the experience, he has the means... time is the only thing that still stands in his way.
Kobal Bluntaxe
As mentioned above, a father figure and quite possibly Fenrir's dearest friend, Kobal means the world to him. It's a long lost dream of Fenrir's
to succeed in something similar that Kobal managed with the Runic Anvil. Together, the ancient clan homes of Rofirein's and Vorax' followers could
lead the race of dwarves into it's once known and
acknowledged glory.
Argali Trueaxe
The closest thing Fenrir has to a soulmate. Feelings are not something any dwarf divulges easily, but Fenrir has put much effort into making
Argali what she is today. His apprentice, and for now, his legacy, Argali means a lot to Fenrir.
-Fenrir's future-
I see several paths in store for Fenrir. Which one he picks, is ultimately up to the winds of change. I see him working towards his academy, to make an architectural mark on the world, not to mention boost his renown. However, this seems trivial for a dwarf as tough as Fenrir. He strives for the impossible, for the uncatchable, but within reason.
Possible paths then:
- Tasks for gods, embrace a new deity and achieve a position of high hierarchy among its ranks. This divine route could look into his lost and
found relations with numerous deities and possibly be tied into the other paths as well. Divinity could lead him to redemption from his father or
to some newer deity he has slowly started to let closer.
- Delve further into the mystic powers of defenders. Find out how and why he can shrug off damage and look into becoming even more indestructible.
Fenrir has long accepted he's the toughest dwarf around, whether this is true or not, he would always want to further this ability to near divine
measures.
- Remove Essrantor's grasp over the Thunder Peaks, find out more about his ancestral clan, his past and possibly restore his clan or the whole mountain to it's ancient glory. This is actually the path I see being most likely. Not only could this lead to his redemption, but also tie into the first two paths and offer so many solutions to his inability to reside with a deity. Not to mention his dream to restore the glory of dwarves that is so long forgotten (see Kobal Bluntaxe).
Fenrir is a heroic dwarf still in his prime, I'd hate to see that go to waste.
Cheers,
