Welcome to the Layonara forums!

Layonara is so much more than a game. We started off as a tabletop Dungeons and Dragons campaign more than a decade ago. Since then we have developed into a fantasy world with as much compelling and engrossing detail as you will find anywhere.

Our current showcase is a Neverwinter Nights version of Layonara, where our world comes to life in a finely polished persistent world which you can play free of charge. These forums are set up to support and accentuate our player's experiences, but it goes far beyond that.

After years of passionate effort, our world is so well developed, so detailed, so refined that any of the handbooks, maps, historical accounts, legends, descriptions of artifacts, creature reports, character biographies, short stories, novels, movies and original art which populate these forums can surely serve as resources or inspiration for your own fantasy endeavors, whatever they may be. And our world is endlessly evolving, so resources are frequently added and updated.

There are also years of sage advice and commentary on role-playing, gaming and online community development stored in these forums. If camaraderie is what you seek, we offer that too. Our community is as active and supportive as you're likely to find on the internet. In short, these forums are a resource for you to use for whatever purpose or project brought you here.

We're confident that you will find what you are looking for, and likely, substantially more.

Default Remiel Delmir

Character Name: Remiel Delmir
Current Level: 20
EXP to level: way past it

Bio:

Remiel's story probably isn't the most likely one for a paladin. He was raised by his father Garil Delmir in Port Hampshire, after his mother died giving birth to him. His father was a merchant and perhaps even a minor noble, he never knew for sure anyway... or really cared. His father didn't much seem to care for him or for anything for that matter. He never knew about his other family either as he had no one to tell him of them. Remiel's father was too devastated after the death of Remiel's mother to think clearly. Eventually this led to his downfall and he was murdered due to some debts to some wrong people.

Remiel was thirteen when his father was murdered. Everything his father had went to the people he owed money, including the house. So Remiel was forced to live on the streets, alone. Somehow he managed to survive though. He got to know the other children on the streets of Port Hampshire and made living any way he could. Mostly he collected junk to sell, tried to help people for some little money but was also sometimes forced to do some pickpocketing. His life never went to the direction the lives of the other children did... most of them became more interested in the underworld activities and the thieves guilds but not Remiel. He always had something in his heart keeping him away from it, most likely his celestial ancestry. Life on the streets was hard but it also taught him many things, to see things from many points of views and also a great deal of compassion.

Once he got older he was actually able to find himself honest work and was quite happy to do so even though the pay wasn't that great. He was quite happy with his life, though he always knew there could be something else for him... a better way to do good. At the age of 17, Remiel was blamed for a crime he didn't commit. It was something minor but with his background, it would've sent him to jail for a while. Remiel knew the person behind the crime was a lesser noble and there was no way he could talk his way out of it. He got lucky though, or perhaps it was meant to be. A paladin of Toran called Ardlak noticed something in him when taking him to the holding cell and he began investigating the case. Ardlak was able to find evidence that freed Remiel and this somewhat changed his life. Ardlak knew what Remiel was, an aasimar... not supposed to be living on the streets like that. He offered him another kind of life, that of a paladin's. Remiel agreed and so Ardlak became his mentor... and his life changed greatly.

Remiel's training to become a paladin was an interesting period in his life. Together with Ardlak they traveled in Southern Mistone and Rilara helping people and defeating evil. Remiel learned quickly as it was as Ardlak had suspected, being a paladin was somewhat natural to him. It only took him a few years for his training to be finished to the point of him being ready to be called a paladin... of course there was still much to learn after this point as well. One day Remiel and his mentor arrived at a small village in South Mistone tormented by a sickness. The town's guards were weakened and someone needed to defend the townsfolk for a while. Ardlak had things to do elsewhere so this was the first time in two years Remiel was separated from his mentor as he stayed to help the townsfolk. Remiel wasn't the only toranite left in town... after a while a priestess of Toran called Elyse arrived at the town to help cure the people. Remiel and her got along quite well and after getting to know each other it didn't take long for something deeper to form between them. The two fell in love and spent the time they had together the best they could... but eventually they both had to leave to their divine duties and they both understood it.

Not much time passed before Remiel was summoned by the gold dragon to Hlint. Already on his first day there he actually ran into Milara and was quite convinced he should indeed stay and help After this many great adventures took their place in Remiel's life. Defeating undead and fiends, defending Hlint, vanquishing warlords of the old risen from beyond the grave, adventuring deep into the underdark and almost dying there, searching for a circlet of great power, preventing powerful gemstones from being misused and ending the afterlife of a tormented lich, and many other deeds he was a part of during his first months in Hlint.

Some time ago Remiel teamed up with the tiefling Key to find some kind of a planar villain though he didn't really get involved by choice. As the story unfolded, he found out Elyse's daughter was held by some fiendish person and Remiel was the girl's father. He did everything he could to save the girl and in the end succeeded to defeat the fiend but even a greater surprise than suddenly realizing he was a father was finding out his mother wasn't even dead. It was then he met his celestial mother Qonelly the first time... For some reason she had to lie about her disappearance by faking her death but even after that she had watched and protected Remiel and his daughter. The surprising family reunion was good for Remiel but other matters drew him to Dregar soon... Saudiria had fallen to Blood's forces and Remiel wanted to help in the battles to come. Together with Thordan, Triba and in the end many others they managed to help the king's armies to regain control of Saudiria and to drive Blood's forces away. Dregar paid a dear price though and Remiel started taking a more interested approach at the war, constantly studying events and thinking their meanings keeping possible strategies in mind.

Remiel pretty much lived on Dregar after the war, looking for things that might've followed it, but nothing major really happened. It was then Remiel took interest in something different from war. One of his friends from Hlint, Serenity was living on Dregar at that time as well. She was a priestess of Pyrtechon Remiel had noted as somewhat odd since his first days in Hlint. She didn't follow the dogma fully and he thought she was somewhat lost. So he started helping her find her way in life. The two talked and traveled quite a lot and some progress was obviously made. During this time a somewhat special relationship between the two formed as well. In a while Serenity's friend Triba joined the group as well and Ozymandias not long after that. In some time Serenity faced a challenge... to either leave and betray Pyrtechon or become his champion. With the help of Remiel and others she chose the path of Lucinda. It wasn't just Serenity who was changed though, Remiel also learned and changed a great deal during these times. Serenity was the second priestess of an evil god he had helped though, the first one was Matilda's conversion from Corath to Toran. With the victory from the war and these two somewhat different "victories", Remiel felt he could do much more good still... and it encouraged him to do even better in future.

A while ago another thing from the past reappeared. Long ago Remiel had tried to help a certain celestial being trapped in a fiendish form to turn back to itself but this had failed, turning it into a beast that was both celestial and fiendish. Or so he saw it at least. This beast made its return some time ago and attacked Katia and the forests. Remiel and others started a war against it and swore to bring it down. The process was long... forests had to be saved to stop the dark angel's advance, after that a plan to defeat it was needed and found. An artifact was discovered, a temple of Pyrtechon infiltrated, hells and heavens visited... Remiel made a great personal sacrifice to save his mother and friends and that cost him dearly... but in the end through great effort the dark angel was stopped though it meant the start of another evil. And yet again Remiel has a difficult task ahead of him, this time it is different though. What happens will remain to be seen...

- Bit late posting here as the final direction of this ECDQ took a while to form really.
- The quest Stormspirit was running was somewhat epicish and I though it would make a good epic quest so we talked about that. The themes also matched with what I wanted. Running Rem's epic at the end of the quest (well that's pretty soon really). This was done because I'm kind of running out of time and wanted to get this out of the way before my playing time becomes limited and also thought this would take less resources from the team. Kind of gave him permission to do almost any kind of character dev he wanted so I don't really have any wishes about that.
