Welcome to the Layonara forums!

Layonara is so much more than a game. We started off as a tabletop Dungeons and Dragons campaign more than a decade ago. Since then we have developed into a fantasy world with as much compelling and engrossing detail as you will find anywhere.

Our current showcase is a Neverwinter Nights version of Layonara, where our world comes to life in a finely polished persistent world which you can play free of charge. These forums are set up to support and accentuate our player's experiences, but it goes far beyond that.

After years of passionate effort, our world is so well developed, so detailed, so refined that any of the handbooks, maps, historical accounts, legends, descriptions of artifacts, creature reports, character biographies, short stories, novels, movies and original art which populate these forums can surely serve as resources or inspiration for your own fantasy endeavors, whatever they may be. And our world is endlessly evolving, so resources are frequently added and updated.

There are also years of sage advice and commentary on role-playing, gaming and online community development stored in these forums. If camaraderie is what you seek, we offer that too. Our community is as active and supportive as you're likely to find on the internet. In short, these forums are a resource for you to use for whatever purpose or project brought you here.

Default Grahm's Travels

Day 1: Upon my arrival at Port Hempstead I came across a giant image of some kind of bird. I have never seen the like before. This town is strange, quite different from home. The floor seems to be made of some sort of manufactured stone. The whole place is huge. There are more people than home, but they are all spread out, which makes it feel like there is more room... more air to breathe.

On a side note, I met an Ox in town. He didn't have much to say, but he seemed to be eating. So rather than continue to interrupt his meal, I left him be. Kinda reminded me of dad though. The last thing he said to me was strange. "Stay alive." Not "goodbye", or "come back soon". I hope can succeed at following his request.

Day 2: I write this with sorrow in my heart today. Reya was injured... badly. At the behest of a gruff lady in need, I ventured in the sewers of Hemstead to find a clog. Instead I found rats. A large number of rats. I tried to befriend them, but they would not have it. One of them bit Reya and she became diseased. After tending her wounds, Reya and I continued further into the sewers.

We came across some sort of gelatinous blob. It actually had a mind... if you will call it that... of it's own. It attacked us along with two rats. During this fight, Reya took on several injuries. We barely managed to survive.

That is enough of that dank place this night.

I can't believe I almost forgot. I met several nice people today. I don't know why everyone back home said not to trust tall folk. They helped me a great deal.

One of them, Father Logan, was even kind enough to give me a staff. All he asked for in return was some skeleton knuckles. I will be sure to give him some when I find them.

Day 3: Twice today, I had near death experiences.

Again I ventured into the sewers, hoping to find this 'clog'. Instead what I found, I never expected. An elf! Not just any elf either. He was a druid as well! What luck! Not only was he a druid, but he was quite powerful. He told me he was collecting mushrooms, but did not mention what for.

Without his help, I surely would have died. I was again jumped by another blob. This one manged to land a surprising blow that knocked me unconscious. I don't know what happened next, but the elf saved my life. He healed me with a single spell. Amazing.

Later, he assumed the form of a great bear. I was astounded. I have heard of this ability, but never before have I seen it. I hope that I one day too will possess this power. In the midst of his mushroom hunting, yet another blob managed to fell me. I was not unconscious this time, but I dare not move for fear that I worsen my injuries. I am beginning to understand my father's words.

"Stay alive."

Not just well-wishing, but a challenge. His challenge to me. Let's hope that I can do better than I have started out to do.

A side note: I am beginning to have an extreme dislike for gelatinous blobs.

Day 4: I ventured back into the sewers today. This time, I heeded the advice of the elven druid. I really need to ask him his name if I see him again. He helped me greatly. Reya and I managed to completely explore the upper level by ourselves!

I encountered some lizard-man thing. Just like everything else in there, it attacked us. Reya managed to quickly put the thing down. It makes me wonder... why are there so many things like this in midst of town. I guess it's just like Mylie said. Balance is everywhere. I received a great deal of help from several people above... so below I am treated with an equal, yet opposite amount of help.

Day 5: I feel myself growing stronger every day. Reya too. Today in the sewers we came across another one of those blobs. We defeated it! I know I should not be excited about killing, but these things seem to have no remorse about trying to kill me. I digress.

Tonight I will rest, and think about my actions. What have they accomplished? Am I closer to finding what I need to know?

A side note: There aren't many armaments for one of my stature here. Also, they seem to fancy forged copper. Maybe tomorrow I will go in search of weapons granted by nature.

Day 6: Today was a most productive day. As I was leaving town, I ran into Father Logan. He was headed to the crypts of Vehl. I myself having never gone there, decided to tag along... after all, I still owed him for his assistance.

We joined with several others and entered the crypts. Never before have I felt so inept. They were swatting down undead left and right. I learned from this experience a great deal. I need to work harder. If I "stay alive", and still venture out, seeking my answer, then I will have to become stronger. Maybe I can speak with the druid from before. Perhaps he can help me learn to assume other forms.

Day 7: Good news... and terrible news.

Today, Reya and I completely explored the sewers. We found the 'clog', and dealt with it. Later, we ventured back to the crypts of Vehl. There we put to rest (again), many skeletons. Even one that wielded magic. It seemed like we were on top of the world. And then we decided to venture out into the world.

I met up with the druid from earlier. His name is Verideth. He took some time to show me around. We even stopped back home in Silkwood. There I met his... err.... twin. I guess he was his twin. I didn't get his name though. I need to be better about that. I keep seeing so many amazing things that my mind freezes. Hopefully this is a problem that will fade with time. I left Verideth and decided to get some more practice in with my abilities.

Reya and I found a camp of Kobolds. What a perfect place to test our growing abilities. There were some that used slings, while others summoned fiends! We were doing fine, until we were swarmed by five of them. Reya was injured badly and needs time to recover. I also was injured. I was knocked unconscious, and I could have sworn I was dieing. I then awoke in Port Hempstead, still woozy from my injuries of the fight. I am not sure how I got here, but I hope Reya is alright.

"Stay alive." Those two words keep ringing in my ears. I feel as if I am once again failing my father. I will not allow this. I must become stronger.

Day 8: I went in search of Reya today. I found her tending wounds just North of where we encountered the kobolds. After healing her, we went to check on the spot of our recent defeat. No evidence of any battle was even present... it was as if it were wiped clean.

On our way back to town, I found a young man lying at the foot of one of the kobold bastards. Reya quickly silenced the kobold as I tended the man's wounds. He thanked me and told me his name was Tabris. He seemed nice and was thankful to be saved. It made me wonder... did someone swoop in and save me the other day? What exactly happened?

Day 9: Last night I had a dream. I was running through a meadow with Reya... only I was on all fours. I couldn't seem to stand up. We approached a lake, and as I looked down to see my reflection, I awoke.

What a strange dream. I wonder what it means?

Day 10: Today I called thunder and lightning! Just like Verideth. It seems like I am growing stronger. Reya still protects me diligently... I hope I can return the favor.

Day 11: This is the hardest blow I have ever felt. Reya fell today. kobolds got her. Nothing I could do. I was too weak. I would have perished too if it weren't for Rodlin. He looked down upon me... and he was right to. I failed. Just like with my father before. I wanted to protect her, but I couldn't. My eagerness and recklessness has cost me dearly... and cost Reya her life.

Rodlin says that she wanted to protect me, and died to do so. I think its deeper than that. She expected me to have her back... and I couldn't. I failed her... and I failed myself.

I vow, that I will never fail again. Even if I die trying.
