| Development Journals and Discussion Forum for character development discussion, journals etc. | | Welcome to the Layonara forums!
Layonara is so much more than a game. We started off as a tabletop Dungeons and Dragons campaign more than a decade ago. Since then we have developed into a fantasy world with as much compelling and engrossing detail as you will find anywhere.
Our current showcase is a Neverwinter Nights version of Layonara, where our world comes to life in a finely polished persistent world which you can play free of charge. These forums are set up to support and accentuate our player's experiences, but it goes far beyond that.
After years of passionate effort, our world is so well developed, so detailed, so refined that any of the handbooks, maps, historical accounts, legends, descriptions of artifacts, creature reports, character biographies, short stories, novels, movies and original art which populate these forums can surely serve as resources or inspiration for your own fantasy endeavors, whatever they may be. And our world is endlessly evolving, so resources are frequently added and updated.
There are also years of sage advice and commentary on role-playing, gaming and online community development stored in these forums. If camaraderie is what you seek, we offer that too. Our community is as active and supportive as you're likely to find on the internet. In short, these forums are a resource for you to use for whatever purpose or project brought you here.
We're confident that you will find what you are looking for, and likely, substantially more.
Please be our guest and browse around the forums which are available to you. As you do, keep in mind that you are sampling only a portion of what Layonara has to offer. Membership in our community is free, and allows you to establish a Layonara identity to pose your questions and share your thoughts on the forums. *A young monk in a common priest's robe walks quietly between Port Hempstead and Fort Vehl, moving from one fishing spot to another. After cooking his catch, he enters Fort Vehl to try and sell some fish, as well as eavesdrop on a little new information at the Scamp's Mug. He listens in, nothing new. Talks of dragons frighten him; he tunes the people out. Minutes later, a familiar story dances around his ears. He smirks to himself, keeping his face hidden under his hood. Better not give away anything. As he delights in his secret, he hears the utterance of the name Delilah. His smirk quickly turns to a frown and his head rises quickly. He shudders, cursing under his breath, "Rude little halfling scamp!" Near a dozen faces turn to look at him, perplexed, before going back to their nightly rituals. He stands up and walks out, shaking his head, before sinking his teeth into a piece of cooked trout.*

Dear Magnus,
My family and friends from my village just arrived in Lake Lodan and we're getting prepared for swimming, fishing, relaxing and hunting. It should be a really great time.
Right before my departure, I joined the Annual Alindor Angling competition to get myself prepared to show my family how much I've improved. You and I really need to travel to Stone together. It's absolutely beautiful. High rocks and water all around; just a sight to be seen!
We had some interesting people show up. Elgon In'Darsus was there. Timulty Keel, Earl Frogstomper, that big silly half-orc Volga. You should really hang around Volga. He's not the brightest fellah, but almost everything he says is sure to entertain. He doesn't always mean to be funny, but he says some very interesting things by accident.
Well, not long after some of the archers started showing off with their bow-fishing, someone in a nearby castle died. The fellah Grubblewell had hosted a party at his castle for all the nobles in the area to rack up charity donations for mariner's hold, but someone nabbed the donation box outta his stronghold. Not only that, but the maid who cared for his child was dead on the floor outside the strongroom and a mysterious dead man was found in the next room. He had never been seen by any of the guards or Grubblewell, and none of the guests had brought company that Grubblewell didn't know.
So, we were on the case. I was lucky to have Timulty there. He really figured out a lotta stuff, with some good help from myself actually!
It turns out that the dead man was a compatriot of a guy named Oskill that Grubblewell bought extra guard service from. The mysterious fellah was a druid who shapeshifted and crawled under Grubblewell's supposedly impenetrable door. I guess Grubby had never seen a druid turn into anything smaller than a badger, quite foolish of him. We actually managed to have a cleric raise him from the dead, but he spoke no more than part of Oskill's name and a request for us to protect his daughter from Oskill before the life left him again. I know he was a thief, but it was sad to see a man pulled from death to die within minutes, especially after helping to right his wrongs and aid the investigation.
Well, we made a chase after these fellahs, but they got away. Hopefully we'll be organizing further investigation sometime soon after I come back to Hempstead.
My old master Garti is up here with us too. He's an amusing old fellah and the most amazing monk I've ever seen in my life. Buddy Tenker is something truely impressive, but my master is even more experienced.
Well, the family is about to get our own fishing competition together. Hopefully all goes well. I'm not sure if I had ever told you, but half my family was taken from me on this same lake nine years ago. It's time to create some happier memories.
I hope you are well, my friend. Send my regards to Buddy, Sun, Verideth, Todd and Brandy. If any of our other friends ask about me, just tell them I am well and will be back soon, with a belly full of fish.
Oh, and before I forget, could you start teaching me the Dwarven language? I realized that I'm just a big dwarf lover. I'm always around you stubbon, short fellahs and I think it would be very beneficial if I started learning your native tongue, as it must be my destiny to have dwarves at my side.
Your companion,
Vanther
