| Development Journals and Discussion Forum for character development discussion, journals etc. | | Welcome to the Layonara forums!
Layonara is so much more than a game. We started off as a tabletop Dungeons and Dragons campaign more than a decade ago. Since then we have developed into a fantasy world with as much compelling and engrossing detail as you will find anywhere.
Our current showcase is a Neverwinter Nights version of Layonara, where our world comes to life in a finely polished persistent world which you can play free of charge. These forums are set up to support and accentuate our player's experiences, but it goes far beyond that.
After years of passionate effort, our world is so well developed, so detailed, so refined that any of the handbooks, maps, historical accounts, legends, descriptions of artifacts, creature reports, character biographies, short stories, novels, movies and original art which populate these forums can surely serve as resources or inspiration for your own fantasy endeavors, whatever they may be. And our world is endlessly evolving, so resources are frequently added and updated.
There are also years of sage advice and commentary on role-playing, gaming and online community development stored in these forums. If camaraderie is what you seek, we offer that too. Our community is as active and supportive as you're likely to find on the internet. In short, these forums are a resource for you to use for whatever purpose or project brought you here.
We're confident that you will find what you are looking for, and likely, substantially more.
Please be our guest and browse around the forums which are available to you. As you do, keep in mind that you are sampling only a portion of what Layonara has to offer. | Ungrundin Battleshield's journal *Written in Dwarven, translates to this....
Well today is the day, I have packed my bags and am ready for adventure outside the Bloody Gates. I have purchased a ticket to Port Hampstead and am looking forward to the trip but not the ship ride there as I have never been on a ship before. I hope it stays on top of the water.
As I was leaving home my Mother gave me a hug and a blessing of Vorax, I hope that I can become as close to Vorax as she. My Father handed me a few coins and gave me a firm handshake, I think I may have seen a small tear from him but not sure. I believe he wants me to stay but doesn't want to hold me back from making my own way. I assure him I will visit home soon and ask to be sure to take care of Mother. I have no doubt that he will.
As I walk out the door I can hear my Mother starting to cry, I grit my teeth, wanting to turn back but do not, it is time for me to go.
I stop by the church and pray. "Vorax, I pray to you for the strength and courage to find my place in this world. I shall fight in your name, your enemies are mine. Please watch over my parents while I'm gone, protect them from your enemies. It will be a while before I return here but I will soon."
As I start towards the Gate I see the statue of Varka, I approach and kneel, "The boundaries of time are come undone, I stand in the gateway between two worlds, Hear me through the veil that hides you from my sight, Help me through this day, Watch me. Shelter me. I am your child!" I rise and take one last look at the mighty statue and say goodbye.
I reach the dock and board the ship, it rocks along the waves as we sail towrds Port Hampstead. "What adventures await me" I think to myself, "I wonder if I will see anymore Dwarves". Surely there are others like me that have left their homes for adventure but only Vorax knows.

| Re: Ungrundin Battleshield's journal Well I found a job today, I hope it pays well for the job isn't as easy as Martha made it out to be. Seems there's something clogging the sewers of Port Hempstead and she has elected me to find the problem. I believe I found out what it is but I am not sure, there are some fishy looking folks down there. I fought them and they seem a bit stronger than I, so I have returned to the surface, going to rest and have a go at it again in a bit. If there wern't so many rats *shivers at the thought of rats* I have never been a fan of rats, they way they scurry around has always unsettled me but I know that Vorax shall give the strength to overcome this unsettleing time. *yawns* Well I will write a bit more later, as of now I think I'm going to find a bath for I smell of the sewer and a bed so I can get me some rest.

| Re: Ungrundin Battleshield's journal I have met another dwarf, I'm happy to say. His name is Torik of the Skullcleaver clan. He says we should adventure together sometime, I think that would be grand. He had a cow with him named Patty, said it was named in his wifes honor, I wonder if that means she is dead or maybe he is just lonely without her while adventuring *laughs to himself*
Shortly after talking to Torik, I met another fellow named Marius, he said only Marius, I guess he keeps his clansname a secret or something, only Vorax knows, he wasn't dwarven. He wore a robe also as I do, wonder if he is a priest. I don't think so he seemed a bit magical to me. Maybe I will see him again and I shall ask.
Durned rats!!! I have been trying to clear the rat infestation out of the sewers to no avail!! They are everywhere, crush one, then another and another. I wonder if the fishy folk are clogging the sewers with rat carcasses now for I have killed many. Going to try yet again.

| Re: Ungrundin Battleshield's journal Well, finally unclogged the sewrs for Martha, she seemed pleased., I have been asked to go to the kobold camp outside Port Hempstead and retrieve a magical stick from one of them and return it to Capt. Trent of Port Hempstead, I'm having a hard time doing it alone.

| Re: Ungrundin Battleshield's journal I met a young lad named Ulther today, we went goblin hunting. We were collecting their ears for a kinsman in Hlint, I wonder what he does with them.
I've collected lots of stuff around the area, going to try and sell them to make some coin and maybe buy some better armor, my leathers are looking very worn from battle, they may not hold up to too much more. Got my eye on some full copper plate at the store, hopefully I can get it soon.

| Re: Ungrundin Battleshield's journal I was in Port Hempstead today and something unusual happed. A fellow named Storold, I believe it to be, was fighting a transparent creature. He was accompanied by to lovely lass's, Amanda and Ranewin I believe. He spoke of lizards deep in the earth that had been betrayed in some form. He seemed troubled by it all, I hope it works out for him.
Another gent joined in the talk named Mor Eastleaf, interesting elf, he said he would like to accompany me to the Temple of Vorax when I am able to travel there. He is a follower of Rofrien and would be happy to have him along.

| Re: Ungrundin Battleshield's journal I've met another dwarf named Ke Koa, he is a Paladin of Toran and very skilled with his weapon I must say.
I'm hoping to find some companions to travel with soon as the lands seem to be very dangerous, I have felt my inner self get weaker as a part of me has left to never return, I really don't know how to explain it. It seems the only true friend I have is in Vorax, I know he shall guide my axe true to his enemies and mine.
