Layonara is so much more than a game. We started off as a tabletop Dungeons and Dragons campaign more than a decade ago. Since then we have developed into a fantasy world with as much compelling and engrossing detail as you will find anywhere.
Our current showcase is a Neverwinter Nights version of Layonara, where our world comes to life in a finely polished persistent world which you can play free of charge. These forums are set up to support and accentuate our player's experiences, but it goes far beyond that.
After years of passionate effort, our world is so well developed, so detailed, so refined that any of the handbooks, maps, historical accounts, legends, descriptions of artifacts, creature reports, character biographies, short stories, novels, movies and original art which populate these forums can surely serve as resources or inspiration for your own fantasy endeavors, whatever they may be. And our world is endlessly evolving, so resources are frequently added and updated.
There are also years of sage advice and commentary on role-playing, gaming and online community development stored in these forums. If camaraderie is what you seek, we offer that too. Our community is as active and supportive as you're likely to find on the internet. In short, these forums are a resource for you to use for whatever purpose or project brought you here.

Well I did make a good painting of Storold in a nice feminine dress, still have it somewhere. Ah to persuade a protector of the al'noth to wear it was a funny moment. So I guess I can paint for you, if you are nice to me for once.
Sil'via

Firstly, let me preface my reference with an admission of understanding and sympathy. I understand the merit of vigilance when dealing with the dark elves. I understand a healthy suspicion amongst the administration and general populace to be a necessary burden. I understand to allow exceptions is to risk a certain lassitude amongst folks where a lowering of the guard can lead to increased danger for one and all. I make this reference for Yvale with these things very much in mind so please read on with an assurance that these things have been taken into account and my recommendation for tolerance is made irrespective of such considerations.
It is my firm belief that Yvale was cloaked in the flesh of a dark elf purely as a result of administrative error by the Gods.
I have known Yvale for approximately twenty years. Yvale's greatest strengths are her integrity and loyalty. Yvale is an example to all residents and visitors to Hempstead as demonstrated by her manner, industry, friendliness, reliabilty, warmth and dedication to ensure the good and lawful path is always taken. Yvale has great initiative and often takes it upon herself to solve challenging problems that plague the city. Kobolds, rats, various other menaces to the city have all been handled by Yvale even though she knew in her heart such service was never likely to lessen the scorn by which she was treated by the great City of Hempstead.
Ok, where to start? To write a character reference for someone with a view of supporting an application for a city admittance I can only proceed with the following mindset - What qualities and attributes would I need to see possessed by a visitor to whose care I was entrusting lives and property within this city of mine?
Forgive me, i'm a tick the boxes kind of person.
Reliabilty. Someone I could trust to have the respect for others to maintain the property as if it were their own. Tick.
Someone who takes pride in the place in where she will visit. Tick.
Someone I could trust was financially stable enough to pay their dues and taxes, every time. Tick.
Someone I knew was emotionally stable with business and personal ties to the area. Tick.
Someone I could trust would have enough empathy for me, the city administrator, that they would always consider the 'right' thing to do by my interests. Tick.
Someone who had a sense of professionalism and rationality that I could trust, in the unlikely event of a dispute of any kind, would deal with me in a concilatory and reasonable manner. Tick.
Someone I could trust that in six months time I would not be walking through the ruins of my city and lamenting over graffiti and corpses. Tick.
Someone I knew was not a member of any bandit group or affiliated association. Tick.
Someone I knew who had friends of unquestionable character themselves (me!) that could be called upon to help and support that person, thus further protecting my city. Tick.
I can't think of any other boxes I would need to see checked. Makes me wish my home city were not so distant and she would visit me more often.

| Re: *posted on the board* Hello!
I am a rather excellent artist when it comes to painting. You may have noticed my work in the mugshots and wanted posters for that notorious child-killing half-orc priest of Grand who has plagued Leringard not too long ago. I also have a good background in the errm, more provocative arts, such as "101 Ways to Spank a Naughty Nymph" and "Volga the Barbarian vs. the Tub of Tapioca Pudding". I can make the artwork either in the most accurate form of realism down to every scar, wrinkle or pimple, or embellish a bit on the original for a more pleasing and flattering visage.
I am eager to test my skills for one of the dark elf persuasion, as I never have managed to get the lovely Alantha into my studio, (I am still nursing my wounds from the last time I've asked) and sadly, most of the dark elven clients I have come across are deranged male models who insist on posing with spiders crawling over their skin. (curse ye, Unthuz D'renth! I shall never sleep easy again!) Furthermore, I would gladly do this work of art for a pittance compared to most of the hack artists out there.
I must admit, that I find dark elven women to be quite frankly, the most buxom and delicate beings of all, and smelling so very nice, much like lilacs and spring, and would consider it both an honor and a privilege to focus on this project with the utmost professionalism. All I would require are art supplies, dwarven liquor, three ounces of pipeweed, or possibly a night on the town with Ms. Yvale. This is of course assuming she obtains the necessary legal clearance to avoid decapitation, as I hardly have Corathian urges towards women. In any case, I may be contacted at Mr. Czukay Zarkholm's residence in Prantz should you decide upon choosing me as your visual artist. I thank you for your time and consideration, and the possible opportunity to sketch a true example of paradise, the dark elf female form.
-Farros Galdor
*appends a small portfolio of drawings and paintings ranging from the most beautiful landscapes and still lifes, epic dwarven battle scenes, abstract & bizarre pieces that you have no clue what he was trying to make, several risque pieces that would make even Xeen blush, mugshots and portraits with amazing lifelike realism, and some very disturbing scenes of tentacle demons ripping eachother apart which cause those who fail a DC:21 willsave to scream and flee the room, gibbering in madness for several minutes*

| Re: *posted on the board* Benjamin crosses out the portion requiring a painter, tucks the letter carefully in his pocket after leaving the messenger a healthy tip, then upon reading Farro's entry busts out laughing, " I doubt Miss Yvale would have such an interest in ya, Farros, " he mutters to himself.
Benjamin then inquires as to the whereabouts of one Arkolio Salvorre from the innkeeper.
