| General Discussion If you have anything off topic to say or you are unsure where to post, this is the place to do so. | | Welcome to the Layonara forums!
Layonara is so much more than a game. We started off as a tabletop Dungeons and Dragons campaign more than a decade ago. Since then we have developed into a fantasy world with as much compelling and engrossing detail as you will find anywhere.
Our current showcase is a Neverwinter Nights version of Layonara, where our world comes to life in a finely polished persistent world which you can play free of charge. These forums are set up to support and accentuate our player's experiences, but it goes far beyond that.
After years of passionate effort, our world is so well developed, so detailed, so refined that any of the handbooks, maps, historical accounts, legends, descriptions of artifacts, creature reports, character biographies, short stories, novels, movies and original art which populate these forums can surely serve as resources or inspiration for your own fantasy endeavors, whatever they may be. And our world is endlessly evolving, so resources are frequently added and updated.
There are also years of sage advice and commentary on role-playing, gaming and online community development stored in these forums. If camaraderie is what you seek, we offer that too. Our community is as active and supportive as you're likely to find on the internet. In short, these forums are a resource for you to use for whatever purpose or project brought you here.
We're confident that you will find what you are looking for, and likely, substantially more.
Please be our guest and browse around the forums which are available to you. As you do, keep in mind that you are sampling only a portion of what Layonara has to offer. Membership in our community is free, and allows you to establish a Layonara identity to pose your questions and share your thoughts on the forums. When you join you'll also be able to communicate privately to other members (PMs), establish and respond to polls, upload and download content and access many other special features. | Friendly Warning--Censer of Arcane Devotion Be absolutely sure about the change, because it is going to be a little different when you start using your new summons(if they change) and you'll need to adapt.
I say this as i just PKed a friend by accident by not paying attention to my new summon's attack style.
It was entirely my mistake as I was preoccupied at that particular moment by trying to help someone else, so just be careful.
Especially anyone who summons Water Elementals, you got to keep a very tight leash on those things.

| RE: Friendly Warning--Censer of Arcane Devotion No ... sorry, the question was if I use it and don't follow a deity. Will there be any change at all?
I would really like to change my summons to more fit my charater, but going so far to following a god for that reason alone is streching it.
.
A suggesting would be to raise the price of this Censer and allowing mages perform a ritual every time they decided to learn about another type of summons.. Since I assume they still get there powers from the weave, and not a divine might.

| RE: Friendly Warning--Censer of Arcane Devotion To answer your question, and this is unofficial since I am not a GM, but since you do not have a deity the system reads blank and should default to your current. But you already know that nothing is going to change so save your money and don't use the censer.
Basically, the item will read your deity field and since it will not find a cooresponding entry (just like if you misspelled your deity name on charater creation) and will default back to the original summons.

| RE: Friendly Warning--Censer of Arcane Devotion All magic, both arcane and divine is a part of "The Weave"--the priests and so forth just have it filtered through their deities, sort of.
There is really no reason to use the Censer if you don't follow a deity, as that's preeetty much its entire purpose, not just changing your summons. It's a "get touchy feely with your god" thing, which is really nice for some devout mages.

| RE: Friendly Warning--Censer of Arcane Devotion To answer your question D Blaze, Water elementals have always used a drowned effect.
I learned the hard way with one of my Cleric's.
Xeen's Summons are all Water elementals. Lucinda's Higher summons are Golems, and so on.
(See Handbook page: 260 for information about Custom Summons for Layonara)
I belive that for mages with no god it is based on your Alignment. (I'm sure L could clerify that ).

| RE: Friendly Warning--Censer of Arcane Devotion that makes things alot nicer for me, I was worried about the alignment thing for awhile. If Lia truely becomes evil again she would have feinds as her summons, unfortunately nomatter how evil Lia becomes she will never tolerate such things again which put it in a bit of a flux for me. Fortunately now if things go well with Lucinda and Lia becomes faithful to her I can keep the golems which I have a nice background story for that I would have hated to get rid of if my summons changed. | | |

| RE: Friendly Warning--Censer of Arcane Devotion From Orth's posting:
Mages can use an item called Censer of Arcane Devotion. This new itemis available at temple vendors for around 1500g and is a one time onlyuse which sets the devotion of your arcane magics to your deity. Thisin turn will give you the FX coloured to your deity. Plus, your Summons become the ones based on the Deity, the Clerical ones.If the spell is cast from a mage/sorc/bard who have not used thisCenser, the colours default to the original Bioware colours.
Druids and Rangers spells are Deity based as well, if they have no Deity then it defaults to Green.
