Welcome to the Layonara forums!

Layonara is so much more than a game. We started off as a tabletop Dungeons and Dragons campaign more than a decade ago. Since then we have developed into a fantasy world with as much compelling and engrossing detail as you will find anywhere.

Our current showcase is a Neverwinter Nights version of Layonara, where our world comes to life in a finely polished persistent world which you can play free of charge. These forums are set up to support and accentuate our player's experiences, but it goes far beyond that.

After years of passionate effort, our world is so well developed, so detailed, so refined that any of the handbooks, maps, historical accounts, legends, descriptions of artifacts, creature reports, character biographies, short stories, novels, movies and original art which populate these forums can surely serve as resources or inspiration for your own fantasy endeavors, whatever they may be. And our world is endlessly evolving, so resources are frequently added and updated.

There are also years of sage advice and commentary on role-playing, gaming and online community development stored in these forums. If camaraderie is what you seek, we offer that too. Our community is as active and supportive as you're likely to find on the internet. In short, these forums are a resource for you to use for whatever purpose or project brought you here.

We're confident that you will find what you are looking for, and likely, substantially more.

Default not welcome..

Today there was an player event organazied.

Sounded Like a fun oportunity for players at my lvl to get together and do some exploring on Xantril.. not many times I get that chance since it is a dangerous place to be in if you are not in a good party.

there where other players that thought like me I guess because there was a quite large group that camed togehter. I'm not sure how it all wen't down because the most of it was handelled behind the scenes. But I think it was like one, two or maybe three players that thought the group was to big.. and it would be hard to handle.. Fine.. that might have been so but we wasn't that many. So i think it would have worked out just well.. but now the group where splitt and I guess some got invitations from the ones who wouldn't join the party and a new "elite group" or what you may call it was made, and we others felt rejected or at least felt that this wasn't going to be so fun after all..

Two things..

1. If events like this is just for speciall envited that is totally ok but please make a note about it so there will be no missunderstandings.

2. If a player are making an event like this.. please respect that and don't try to spoil the fun for that player, and the other players that have comed for the thrill, by making her/him chose between go on whith the playerled event or splitt it upp and join their regular friends for their regular xantril bashing trips.

Could have been ok if it had been done by RP. but in this case it was not. I have no hard feelings what so ever but now I kind of know how it felt for those who got picked last in the gym class *grins*

Maybe I'm overacting a bit but at the same time I'm surtain that there where others that felt like me..

to bad though.. I think it would have been a verry fun trip and I had been looking forward to it all day..

I think the main thing I don't like about what I'm hearing, is that much of what went down didn't occur IC. I know most of those who were involved in this, and would have tried to join up for the event myself were I not at work. I'm surprised and a bit dissapointed to hear that a behind the scenes split occured. Take care of it IC or, as Frelinder suggested, make sure it is well known it is private.

This is the same issue from Harlas' quest. Namely, that OOC blurred and even overcame IC workings. Granted, real life is going to seep into RP, as RP is simply a mimic of life to begin with, and one should never become so lost in RP so as to lose their grasp on reality. However, Layo is designed around _character_ interaction moreso than _player_ interaction.

All issues that occur in-game should be handled in-game, in-character, and stay there. There's no reason that _internal_ conflict should be decided externally (through OOC).

I'm not meaning to single this particular ordeal out, but this has been bugging me a lot lately. OOC should never overcome character interaction. And maybe this wasn't even the case here. I'm not wanting to point fingers at anyone. As I said, I am acquainted with and respect many of the players that were involved with this. I don't know the details, I just know that it's really bothering me how much OOC is influencing IC stuff. I think you know what I'm getting at.

I'm sorry that it made you feel that way. Whenthe trip was plannedthe one who planned it didn't know who or what the turnout would be.
But I can assure you, it was not meant to end up happening as it did. Sometimes things go smoothly, but unfortunately sometimes they don't. What you talk about working out "behind the scenes" is actually the workings IC situations of characters not wanting to travel together because of certain past situations and conflicts.
This besides for the group being failrly large was the main reason that several left the group. In fact, nobody ever left Arabel and a large part of the group is still there right now, dealing with the events of a past quest that had happened that would not allow two (or more) characters to travel with each other. (good RP by them now btw)
It was not brought to the surface likely for IC reasons.
If anything some of us would owe an ooc aology to Alantha, for offering our assistance and then decided not to come along, for whatever reasons. However, I truly respect that people acted in an IC manner, even thoughit was as you said behind the sceces. In my opnion If your characters would not travel together, then they should not.
Lalaith didn't know half the group, and she is not a very trusting person(ask anybody that knows her.) Whenshe saw those leave who gave her confidence in the groups abilities, she decided she didn't want to risk her life on this mission,by putting trust into those she had never travelled with. She has recently found some things that make her happy, and decided that she didn't want to take a chance with Xantril today.

Yeah, basically what happened was... a group of 13-15 characters ended up coming to this Player Scheduled "quest." A few people thought it was too many for the area we were going to be heading into and they decided the lag that the party could create was a bit too risky to "attempt" with their characters. One pulled out, which caused another to pull out, then another, and another.

At this point the party was what what they probably would have considered "managable" however having lost some crucially strong characters it was decided that this party was probably too weak to go where we intended to. It was at this point a couple people joined up to (I'm quoting someone here), "make their own party." Apparently they invited a few of the people from our party, but it sounded like they would have headed out anyway.

No one that I was aware of at the time, really had a problem with them breaking off. It was 'unofficially' decided that our weakened party couldn't handle the area anyhow, so I figured, "at least someone can have fun with it." I left, and told them to have fun (and meant it), as did another character, and two others also had no problem with letting them go join the other party.

The best way to avoid this problem, is to put a cap on how many players can come, or simply try to invite only the ones you want. I do agree with Frelinder, if you post and make it seem like anyone and everyone can come, then you need to stick with it, otherwise, narrow the requirements. It was slightly dissapointing, but hey, can't go all the time. I'd rather see an adventure take place without me, than not go at all because I'm one of the people cluttering it up.

Just want to say that I felt a bit frustrated when I wrote it.. most because of that the event/quest didn't take place so I got a little bit dissapointed.

No hard feelings though.. It wasn't realy anybodys fault I guess. Things like this just happens.. And also I understand now that it was other things that had happened before this that had some influence on what was going on.. so I didn't had the whole picture so to say..

*shrugs* I just hope that this wan't lead to that players don't wan't to organize events like this just because of this..

That would be a shame..

So I'm looking forward till next player led event..

(And by the way. the not welcome thing can be missunderstanding.. especially for those who wasn't there. I knew most of the people there.. at least a bit, and it wasn't like they made me feel that I wasn't welcome. It was just the whole thing that made me and perhaps others feel a bit uncomfortable I think)

*shrugs* i was one of the players that left and really dont have a problem with it since i knew from the start that there would be a chance that i couldnt go, agree what it could have been handeled better ic but most did tell ic that they left because the party was to big, if you want to go out in a large group you better know each other really well or have good leader. and since that was'nt the case i can understand why people choose to leave.

to Alantha dont feel bad about inviting me along just to see me go, i dont mind and knew it before going *hugs*

Frelinder: Sorry, it didn't work out at all as I had hoped. But there was really little I could do. Imagine how I felt having set this up only to see the party break in two? How in the world can I even go at all without making one half upset? And even if no one actually got annoyed, I still do feel bad about it.
Again, sorry

ZV: You were not cluttering anything up. At least not in my book. Things didn't go at all as I had had in mind they would. Far from it... I never imagined the group would be torn in two... or that we would spend 3 hours in arabel before finally going away abit, and not really to the places initially thought of.
Sorry for the disappointment and any inconviniences.

akata: Sorry things turned out like this. I hope you had a good time despite what happened this evening. *sigh* Sorry

*** I want to apologice to the rest of the people comming after having read the calender or found out somehow. This was not at all what I had had in mind. I have had so much fun adventuring on east and I thought others might have fun as well.
I am sorry about what happened, hopefully it will not happen again.

In the nearly eight months I have been a part of the Layo community, I have learned (a few times the hard way) that things go best if you give the next person the benefit of the doubt, and shrug it off if things don't go your way. This isn't a zero-sum game, with clear-cut winners and losers. We +all+ win when, at the end of the day, each of us has got a bit of enjoyment in-game and/or on the forums.

Pardon this sermonizing - yet after +both+ this misunderstanding and that involving Harlas' quest, I couldn't remain silent, as I had intended to do. Though I'll stop with this, my friends: More than once I've heard this community described as a family, albeit a bit dysfunctional, and this metaphor of family helps me resolve issues that come up in my day-to-day experiences; we've got something very special here, and each of us should do our best to preserve it, even if that means giving up a little over the short run.

Yeah it sure started off chaoticly *shrugs* and when I left I did so to see what was going on exactly not to leave for the other party, not the only one in this case folks then after finding out...spending 2+ hours trying to get Rev and Syn to kiss and make-up all in Arabel LoL
We finally left the city almost 3 hours after the start of the quest :s

I do find too bad that you guys didn't come to check things out for yerself then again around the end of the second hour Path was banging the back of his head against the city wall while sitting under the rain so maybe leaving wasn't such a bad idea

*sighs* just to clarify why Jacchri left without saying anything.
For the second time this week my ISP decided to do maintenance without letting us the users know. So one moment I was still joking with Abi about pink and purple curtains and the next moment I was without a crucial link to Layo.
I was really upset as I was really looking forward to this trip. Hopefully someone will plan another one soon.

It sounds to me like there was a little miscommunication, combined with some unexpected RP twists. I came on two hours late expecting to have missed the boat, only to find out it hadn't even set sail yet, due to the twists. I can certainly understand why people might have given up after this length of time, but you also have to respect two characters who are willing to stick to their RP guns.

Regarding the organization of player-led events in the future, we might all benefit by learning from this example. It would probably be best to set them up in a similar fashion as GM-led events, by listing level caps, party limits, and whether or not it will be invitation only, etc. This will lead to less frustration from having a group that is considered too large for the trip planned.

*points to what Yllyrryon posted* Right on, man.

And it sounds as if there really were IC happenings that orchestrated some of the situation, and I am really glad to hear that. I hope I didn't upset anyone with my earlier post, but I hold to my guns on it.
