| General Discussion If you have anything off topic to say or you are unsure where to post, this is the place to do so. | | Welcome to the Layonara forums!
Layonara is so much more than a game. We started off as a tabletop Dungeons and Dragons campaign more than a decade ago. Since then we have developed into a fantasy world with as much compelling and engrossing detail as you will find anywhere.
Our current showcase is a Neverwinter Nights version of Layonara, where our world comes to life in a finely polished persistent world which you can play free of charge. These forums are set up to support and accentuate our player's experiences, but it goes far beyond that.
After years of passionate effort, our world is so well developed, so detailed, so refined that any of the handbooks, maps, historical accounts, legends, descriptions of artifacts, creature reports, character biographies, short stories, novels, movies and original art which populate these forums can surely serve as resources or inspiration for your own fantasy endeavors, whatever they may be. And our world is endlessly evolving, so resources are frequently added and updated.
There are also years of sage advice and commentary on role-playing, gaming and online community development stored in these forums. If camaraderie is what you seek, we offer that too. Our community is as active and supportive as you're likely to find on the internet. In short, these forums are a resource for you to use for whatever purpose or project brought you here.
We're confident that you will find what you are looking for, and likely, substantially more.
Please be our guest and browse around the forums which are available to you. As you do, keep in mind that you are sampling only a portion of what Layonara has to offer. Membership in our community is free, and allows you to establish a Layonara identity to pose your questions and share your thoughts on the forums. When you join you'll also be able to communicate privately to other members (PMs), establish and respond to polls, upload and download content and access many other special features. Registration is fast, simple and absolutely free. So please. join our community today!

| IRC RP Idea As of now, I am unable to play NWN seeing as my CD is in perm'd status, lol.
So I want to propose an idea, so I can kinda stay involved in the world of Layo I'd like permission to run a few PnP free-form style campaigns in a IRC chatroom on the Layo server.
The campaigns will use the mechanics of Layo (lore, rules of conduct) but are not meant to have any effect on the NWN world.
I want to try to host some as my dm'ing skills are all from PnP and I haven't done it in a long time. Also the players that come I will create characters seperate from their layo characters and all will start lvl 3-5 depending on class.
All I will require is the dice rolling bot that is in the current Layo IRC chat to roll dice and keep the room open.
If this is alright, I'd like some feedback from possible players. Remember this is just for those who'd like a little old fashioned PnP style Rping.
Cheers...

| Re: IRC RP Idea Hmmm. I am not against this...however... you need to make sure you stick with the Layonara rules on the forums and in game (it is the same community) (as you stated), follow the handbook, do not make anything up in Layonara etc. And always keep in mind that any GM can shut things down if things get out of hand or things do not go well. This is me stepping out on a ledge... and I hope it does not come back to bite me.
You can't make anything up because we are still designing a lot of things and everything has to go through channels. If they do not jive with the rest of Layonara things do not make sense at all. This is an important rule and if not followed (by you or anybody else that may want to go down this path you are taking) we will be forced to shut this sort of IRC/GM thing down.
Fair enough? | | |

| Re: IRC RP Idea With lean's permission I will post in the player calendar.
Personally I would WELCOME any DM viewing in the DM session and all session will be family oriented and in the clean spirit of Layo. I will try my best to run quest as I have seen Layo DMs run them.
Any other rules you would like to apply to them I will post them to all whereever you tell me too.
Thanks Steverimmer.

| Re: IRC RP Idea As a side note, you'll obviously be using the bot aragen to do the die rolling... if you think of anything that may help out in terms of die-rolling features (and aren't insanely complicated) I'd be more than willing to contribute the time to enhance the bot to service these sessions better!

| Re: IRC RP Idea uhm...basic dierolling is fine for right now.
if I could get a PM with the commands for the bot I would appreciate it. and would it be possible for it to automake me a op in the room on entry and keep the room open when noone is there?
Those are the only things I probably need for now.
((thanks for the support))

| Re: IRC RP Idea whew, done some PnP over IRC before, played and DM'd, and oddly enough, it's slightly more difficult than a face-up group. It's very easy to get bogged down and the DM has to type like mad. I'd say come VERY prepared. Lots of copy and pasting. And lots of nick changes...
Oh, and in case any of you ever want to check this out, when I do PnP stuff online, I use a set of software called Fantasy Grounds. It's wondrous. It allows whole modules to be prerendered so everything flows so much smoother, not to mention being able to move characters through a dungeon map all can see. The only downside is that it costs dollars. But it's well worth it for the hours of fun it can churn. Just Google it if you have an interest.

| Re: IRC RP Idea oh, of note, say you have a store-bought module you want to test out on some players, scan it into a .pdf and use adobe to turn it into .doc's or .txt's, and you can port the material right into Fantasy Grounds, editing it as you see fit.

| Re: IRC RP Idea I just took a look at Fantasy Grounds. WOW! That is very darn cool man. Too bad it costs money even for the players to join--otherwise I think this would be a huge success. This is pretty darn incredible though. | | |

| Re: IRC RP Idea aye, still, 35 bucks is nothing if you think of how much DnD books costs these days, or video games, heh.
and honestly, the Demo is barely half as good as the real thing.

| Re: IRC RP Idea *nods* Yeah, the $35 is nothing for people that want to host it and such...but $20 for all players could get a little pricy. I can't get more than a few dozen people donating because they can't afford $10 - $20 (even one time).. so heh.
*shrugs* either way though, their company and all...and it looks like a really cool product.

| Re: IRC RP Idea [is still unemployed, but has tried to donate what he can]
daaaaaaaaaangg...Lean...
my first thought was to run campaigns in nwn based off the layo world, but it's easier to write and type them instead of creating FULL module duplicates of the layo world.
plus that stealing and disrepectful, so i stuck to the irc idea.

| Re: IRC RP Idea Now, now.. that is not what I was talking about all (donations and such).. I was just trying to throw out an idea of if they kept the client free (or say $5 - $10) and then increased their full version to say $50 or so I think they would be pleasantly surprised at the results.. *shrugs*
Anyways, that is a very nice package and one I need to review further.

| Re: IRC RP Idea Perhaps so, L. Currently, all the folks I know that use it have invested in the full version, since we all take turns at DMing. The client is so very limited compared to the full deal, that the 15 dollar difference is worth spending to get the full version. That said, they probably do need to lower the price of the client.
