| General Discussion If you have anything off topic to say or you are unsure where to post, this is the place to do so. | | Welcome to the Layonara forums!
Layonara is so much more than a game. We started off as a tabletop Dungeons and Dragons campaign more than a decade ago. Since then we have developed into a fantasy world with as much compelling and engrossing detail as you will find anywhere.
Our current showcase is a Neverwinter Nights version of Layonara, where our world comes to life in a finely polished persistent world which you can play free of charge. These forums are set up to support and accentuate our player's experiences, but it goes far beyond that.
After years of passionate effort, our world is so well developed, so detailed, so refined that any of the handbooks, maps, historical accounts, legends, descriptions of artifacts, creature reports, character biographies, short stories, novels, movies and original art which populate these forums can surely serve as resources or inspiration for your own fantasy endeavors, whatever they may be. And our world is endlessly evolving, so resources are frequently added and updated.
There are also years of sage advice and commentary on role-playing, gaming and online community development stored in these forums. If camaraderie is what you seek, we offer that too. Our community is as active and supportive as you're likely to find on the internet. In short, these forums are a resource for you to use for whatever purpose or project brought you here.
We're confident that you will find what you are looking for, and likely, substantially more.
Please be our guest and browse around the forums which are available to you. As you do, keep in mind that you are sampling only a portion of what Layonara has to offer. | XP penalties for multi classing? // Question.
I'm thinking of creating an halfling (favored class rouge)
He/she will be: fighter 10/Weaponmaster 5/Rouge 5.
What will the penalties be?
And if I shose to create a human whith the same class splitt will the penalties be the same?
Thought it would be fun with an multiclassed character but i don't wan't to get stucked on lvl 9 for like 6 months

| Re: XP penalties for multi classing? the halfling favored class is rogue, so if you are fighter 10, WM 5 rogue 5, when it comes to the XP penalty it will see it being 10 Fighter, 5 weapon master, as they are not withing a level or 2 (can't remember which it is) so there will be an XP penelty (i think it's 10% not sure)
if you were human (favored class is whatever is highest level) the game would look at the character for XP penelties as Rogue 5/Weaponmaster 5, and so there would be no XP penelty

| RE: XP penalties for multi classing? No penalties. Rogue is the favored class of halflings, and PrCs don't count toward the XP penalty. | | |

So if i understand this right.
I can be an Halfling. take the first 10 lvls as an fighter then take my WM lvls and rouge lvls upp to lvl 20 and get no penalties at all on the way?

| Re: XP penalties for multi classing? Favored classes and PrC levels are not used for calculating penalties, so yes, you could do exactly what you said (though whatever you do, it should make RP sense on Layonara).
A halfling fighter/wizard, on the other hand, would suffer the XP penalty if the fighter and wizard levels got more than 1 apart.

But...Levels do help with RP....

| Re: XP penalties for multi classing? Philosopher, you just made my day.
Anyway... Wow. Fifth level in a makeup class? Sweet. Does that give you bonuses to Disguise? I mean, a fifth level Rouge... (Just making the standard crack about Rogue/Rouge, let me have my fun.)
In any case... It's been a while since I've looked up favored class rules, but I think that as long as you're within 3 levels of your favored class' level, there's no penalty; otherwise it's 10%. However, it has been a while, so don't take my word for granted.
Myself, I always play human, so I don't have to worry too much about that.

| Re: XP penalties for multi classing? Multiclassing penelties... Pfft...
No need to care about that, as most XP comes from quests...

| Re: XP penalties for multi classing? Even with the penalties, it becomes such a small number considering how quest-heavy the leveling-up process usually is anyhow.
But yeah... no penalties on that build.
