Welcome to the Layonara forums!

Layonara is so much more than a game. We started off as a tabletop Dungeons and Dragons campaign more than a decade ago. Since then we have developed into a fantasy world with as much compelling and engrossing detail as you will find anywhere.

Our current showcase is a Neverwinter Nights version of Layonara, where our world comes to life in a finely polished persistent world which you can play free of charge. These forums are set up to support and accentuate our player's experiences, but it goes far beyond that.

After years of passionate effort, our world is so well developed, so detailed, so refined that any of the handbooks, maps, historical accounts, legends, descriptions of artifacts, creature reports, character biographies, short stories, novels, movies and original art which populate these forums can surely serve as resources or inspiration for your own fantasy endeavors, whatever they may be. And our world is endlessly evolving, so resources are frequently added and updated.

There are also years of sage advice and commentary on role-playing, gaming and online community development stored in these forums. If camaraderie is what you seek, we offer that too. Our community is as active and supportive as you're likely to find on the internet. In short, these forums are a resource for you to use for whatever purpose or project brought you here.

Default question about sea elves

I have a few questions please about sea elves.

What classes would be most appropriate for a sea elf?

Can someone clarify about the starting weapons of a sea elf, and the disclaimer(Under no circumstance does a Sea Elf start with other proficiencies than what is listed. Sea elves washed upon the shore and being raised by regular elves therefore gaining the regular elf proficiencies with the Sea Elf bonuses will not be approved)

What starting weapon feats does a sea elf have, and what can he not take at character creation?

As far as summons go, It is my understanding that summons are directly related to deity correct?
What would a cleric of Shindaleria summon at various lvls, and what would a wizard summon?

Would a wizard sea elf be unusual?

Ranger sea elf? Can start with bow proficiency?

Any feedback about sea elves would be much appreciated, thank you

I think any class can work for a sea elf, as long as you can work around the "restrictions" and such.

A cleric of Shinaleria summons water types. So water elementals that get increasingly more powerful as you level.

A wizard would summon based on his or her alignment unless you used the censer (which you can purchase at temples) to change them to the clerical summons.

Would a wizard sea elf be unusual?
*ANY* sea elf is unusual. A wizard is not so strange. I know of one sea elf wizard in game currently.

You can play a ranger, sure; however, I would not think using a bow would be appropriate. For one, sea elves do not have the bow proficiency. How would this be done while underwater? If a bow is made of wood, the salt water would be very detrimental to it, not to mention the bow string. Plus...I am not sure arrows would work so well underwater. It would be possible to take the weapon proficiency after creation however. You could RP learning the bow and then take the feat. Starting with the bow would make no sense though.

A ranger would still be possible though.

Sea elves are fun to play. I play a cleric of shindaleria and I have a lot of fun with her. We need more sea elves, as there are only three that I know of, including mine.

Playing a class other then cleric would be very cool A druid, ranger, fighter....anything really would add some variety. However, clerics are still very welcome as Shindaleria does not have a very large base in game.....yet.

Hope this has helped some!

Ranger can work, but you can NOT use bows. As you say "Under no circumstance does a Sea Elf start with other proficiencies than what is listed. Sea elves washed upon the shore and being raised by regular elves therefore gaining the regular elf proficiencies with the Sea Elf bonuses will not be approved" So your elf would come from the sea for the first time when you create him. He would not know what a bow is, let alone know how to use one.
And apart from that, you also don't have room between your fingers as a sea elf, you have webbed fingers and toes, so you can't really pull back an arrow.

And yes, Shindaleria needs some help against the onslaught of Mist

(On a side note, if you want a good archer, go fighter, not ranger. But not a sea elf archer )

id think a sea elf could use a Crossbow, though as something of a speargun, sence there arnt harpoons or anything, though ranged weapons underwater are much different then in air.
