Welcome to the Layonara forums!

Layonara is so much more than a game. We started off as a tabletop Dungeons and Dragons campaign more than a decade ago. Since then we have developed into a fantasy world with as much compelling and engrossing detail as you will find anywhere.

Our current showcase is a Neverwinter Nights version of Layonara, where our world comes to life in a finely polished persistent world which you can play free of charge. These forums are set up to support and accentuate our player's experiences, but it goes far beyond that.

After years of passionate effort, our world is so well developed, so detailed, so refined that any of the handbooks, maps, historical accounts, legends, descriptions of artifacts, creature reports, character biographies, short stories, novels, movies and original art which populate these forums can surely serve as resources or inspiration for your own fantasy endeavors, whatever they may be. And our world is endlessly evolving, so resources are frequently added and updated.

There are also years of sage advice and commentary on role-playing, gaming and online community development stored in these forums. If camaraderie is what you seek, we offer that too. Our community is as active and supportive as you're likely to find on the internet. In short, these forums are a resource for you to use for whatever purpose or project brought you here.

We're confident that you will find what you are looking for, and likely, substantially more.

Please be our guest and browse around the forums which are available to you. As you do, keep in mind that you are sampling only a portion of what Layonara has to offer. Membership in our community is free, and allows you to establish a Layonara identity to pose your questions and share your thoughts on the forums. When you join you'll also be able to communicate privately to other members (PMs), establish and respond to polls, upload and download content and access many other special features. Default I for one, love Layonara the way it is like it is.

Every day, I see a new post on the forums (and Im not looking to rain on anyones parade here) about how much people are looking foward to NWN2, how they cant wait to have Layonara represented as PW in it, and all the expectations that go with it. It is always nice to look forward to something, and I have noticed that new games always generate a great deal of pre-release fervour. Expectations are high, and we all hope that this will live up to its much publicised hype. However, I have to say this. I love Layonara the way it is now: <ul> [*]It runs on a relatively low spec'd PC. [*]It is entralling and exicting. [*]Well put together, and dynamic. [*]Has some great people behind the scenes. [*]Lots of other stuff, that Im sure I dont have to tell you about, as you all know. [/list]So lets look forward to Layonara on NWN2, but spare a thought and think how lucky we all are to have found this great place. Oh yeah!.. when is NWN2 being released?

Unfortunately I just jumped on the bandwagon, and it seems that it's running away while leaving me in the dust. Just joking. I've known about Layonara for some time now, but I just joined up - finally got my hands on a legit copy. So I suppose I'm not that enthusiastic about NWN2... heh... but I extend my best wishes to the Layonara team and players. From the sounds of it, you guys have a wonderful place. So congratulations.

Lets face it. NWN2 will be a better game. But were not playing NWNights are we. Were playing Layonara. And Layonara on NwN1 or NWN2 is still Layonara for me.
I agree with Rasterick, theres nothing wrong with Layon now, and I doubt therell be anything wrong with Layo later.
To be honest, I dont really care about NWN the game, just Layo.

i agree with rasterick. Layo on NWN1 is great And i love the RP and everything. But I think Layo could even be better on NWN2.
Why? because the worlds that can be created for NWN1 are like blokes. it is very Square. Nothing wrong of course but since I like good grapics. I know layo on NWN2 would be better. because the worlds that can be created for NWN2 are not as Square. I even think that NWN2 would alow for so much more things that you might soon forget about NWN1.

however I would not forget NWN1 because thats the game that lead me here to Layonara, this great world filled with many RP aportunities. And since i'm here on layo. i have started to like RP more and more.
what ever Layo has instored for us in the future. I'd be there to enjoy it. along with everyone else.

This has been kind of said already but it doesn't hurt to repeat it....
What makes Layonara unique is the community. We can have Layonara on the NWN platform, NWN2 platform....heck, even the Half-Life platform if we really tried hard enough....or really just about anywhere we wanted. It's not the engine and the graphics that really makes things special, but rather it the people...the players and GMs, the Project Team and really just all the effort that so many people put into this place out of a true affection for the world. *wipes a tear*
Having said that, a little eye candy goes a long way!
And for Rasterick, NWN2 is being released in mid-September by all accounts, however Layonara will not likely switch over fully until January 2007.

Y'know... I'm starting to think that maybe the switch to NWN2 might not be the best of ideas. I mean, really, how many players can afford the kind of machine that it'll take to run NWN2? All my spare money's going towards NWN2 machines, be it the servers or my own.

Bear in mind, there will be a fair lag between the release of NWN2 and Layo's port...

After all, the DMs and World Designers may be superhuman, but some of the haks which we acknowledge as normal components of Layo (most notably, the CNR system) will take a non-trivial time to port. So even though NWN2's release date fast approaches... it's not gonna be an instantaneous thing.

To Stephen: I believe when it comes down to it, if the requirements for NWN-2 are THAT big, we'll probably end up sticking with NWN-1. L and the Team want to do what's best for the community, and let's face it, a new game will help keep the community interested. It IS the stories, the characters, the interaction and the people that keep us here, but after three or so years of the same graphics it starts to get a little old.

I'll never leave Layo for good and that's just something you're all going to have to deal with *winks* but we can't run on NWN-1 forever and a new game will go a long way in assuring Layonara a bright future. I'm starting to ramble though so, yeah.

As said above-we're not playing NWN 1-we're playing Layonara! I, for one, would hate to see Layo (1) go by the wayside. Certainly, if you want to play NWN (2)-there will be hundreds of new modules created for it. Maybe the designers and scripters can't wait to get their hands on a new toolset, but as with most new games there will be bugs and glitches to labor through. Why replace something when it's not broken? Personally, I've only seen half of Layo and wouldnt mind having time to see it all before it goes.

There's going to be a large hole in content even six months after release of NWN2... a good amount of the community creatures and whatnot that Layo has may not be there. That said I'm not going to worry about it too much either way. I like the eye candy of NWN2 but I like the huge mass of community content that NWN1 still provides.
