| General Discussion If you have anything off topic to say or you are unsure where to post, this is the place to do so. | | Welcome to the Layonara forums!
Layonara is so much more than a game. We started off as a tabletop Dungeons and Dragons campaign more than a decade ago. Since then we have developed into a fantasy world with as much compelling and engrossing detail as you will find anywhere.
Our current showcase is a Neverwinter Nights version of Layonara, where our world comes to life in a finely polished persistent world which you can play free of charge. These forums are set up to support and accentuate our player's experiences, but it goes far beyond that.
After years of passionate effort, our world is so well developed, so detailed, so refined that any of the handbooks, maps, historical accounts, legends, descriptions of artifacts, creature reports, character biographies, short stories, novels, movies and original art which populate these forums can surely serve as resources or inspiration for your own fantasy endeavors, whatever they may be. And our world is endlessly evolving, so resources are frequently added and updated.
There are also years of sage advice and commentary on role-playing, gaming and online community development stored in these forums. If camaraderie is what you seek, we offer that too. Our community is as active and supportive as you're likely to find on the internet. In short, these forums are a resource for you to use for whatever purpose or project brought you here.
We're confident that you will find what you are looking for, and likely, substantially more.
Please be our guest and browse around the forums which are available to you. As you do, keep in mind that you are sampling only a portion of what Layonara has to offer. Membership in our community is free, and allows you to establish a Layonara identity to pose your questions and share your thoughts on the forums. | Chainmail as robe I'be been playing a lot with the armor crafting in the hall recently, all the differnt robes you can get there is amazing.
Kind of stumbled on the chainmail.... it just looks so great.. but, it's chainmail.
My wizard Daeron has been running around with it for some days, but well he's not supposed to wear them, is he?
Got a good pic of it here. The reason is I downloaded the old animations in the override file so I wouldn't crash as much. In these animations walking in robes just doesn't look alright. Therefore I wanted a robeless travelclothing for Daeron, so if he goes out he exchanges his robe for something more practical.
After some discussion and my own doubts I eventually changed it into an outfit of cloth. http://www.layonaraonline.com/forums...4&photoid=4028
But I'd like to know what other people's opininions are on this.
What's more important, realism or just having fun with your PC and putting them in the clothes you like?

| Ask the Tiefling about Realism, and you'll get two knives in your back. I believe that what is fun should override what makes sense. Perhaps it's a very light metal? Or maybe it's not even metal at all, but wowen cloth which was enchanted to shimmer? But regardless of that, I think it's ugly and used by several people; who also look ugly in it.
My Eleventeen cents here.

| RE: Chainmail as robe No they're not ugly... Don't be mean, hehe.
I agree with 8bit, simply use what you think it might suit your character's looks and RP it if you like.

Thanks, that helps at least a bit. Hmm, I'll have to think about it some more I suppose. The chainmail is out I think, maybe in the future, if it fits his character.

| RE: Chainmail as robe Aralin wears the scale mail robe over his half plate. its really just a choice of what you want your character to look like.
Oh you may want to try the padded cloth robes

| RE: Chainmail as robe Regardless of how it looks it is still chain mail with the casting penalty of chainmail. Of course as wizard, you can wear what you like, it's your choice.
However, some clerics whose deity says they shouldn't wear let's say for example, platemail, modify their platemail to look like a robe and say 'it's a robe.'.
It's not, it's a platemail, with all the weight, AC and whatnot the platemail has(after all that's why they wear it ). So in that case, they shouldn't (can always get adamantium enforced clothing or something).

| RE: Chainmail as robe Frist I agree with Ed. Second and lastly everyone is here to roleplay! Thus don't think of shortcuts to obtain the most powerfull being in Layonara. Just do what your character would do while staying in the rules of Layonara.
ie. Garnet Stonesmythhy is tring to be a Brother of Battle in the Monastic Order for Vorax, thus he no longer uses the "Helm of Armor II" that he has. this makes it very hard but, it is what I feel Garnet would do.

| RE: Chainmail as robe Yes! Rp that armor and character build!
My sorc wears armor and carries a sword, he thinks he's a knight type. he may.. um... die.. easily, but he's really intresting!
He's not a powerful character and probably won't ever be. But he is intresting and has the possibility of becomeing a vibrant character.
now if I can only figure out what class to multi in to make him more knightly... hmmm

| RE: Chainmail as robe
I basically roleplayed, mostly for myself not as much in comments made, that Daeron was getting sick of walking through swamps with robes. They become all heavy with water and dirt... and it's just icky.
That's why he decided he should be adventuring in pants.
