| General Discussion If you have anything off topic to say or you are unsure where to post, this is the place to do so. | | Welcome to the Layonara forums!
Layonara is so much more than a game. We started off as a tabletop Dungeons and Dragons campaign more than a decade ago. Since then we have developed into a fantasy world with as much compelling and engrossing detail as you will find anywhere.
Our current showcase is a Neverwinter Nights version of Layonara, where our world comes to life in a finely polished persistent world which you can play free of charge. These forums are set up to support and accentuate our player's experiences, but it goes far beyond that.
After years of passionate effort, our world is so well developed, so detailed, so refined that any of the handbooks, maps, historical accounts, legends, descriptions of artifacts, creature reports, character biographies, short stories, novels, movies and original art which populate these forums can surely serve as resources or inspiration for your own fantasy endeavors, whatever they may be. And our world is endlessly evolving, so resources are frequently added and updated.
There are also years of sage advice and commentary on role-playing, gaming and online community development stored in these forums. If camaraderie is what you seek, we offer that too. Our community is as active and supportive as you're likely to find on the internet. In short, these forums are a resource for you to use for whatever purpose or project brought you here.
We're confident that you will find what you are looking for, and likely, substantially more.
Please be our guest and browse around the forums which are available to you. As you do, keep in mind that you are sampling only a portion of what Layonara has to offer. Membership in our community is free, and allows you to establish a Layonara identity to pose your questions and share your thoughts on the forums. When you join you'll also be able to communicate privately to other members (PMs), establish and respond to polls, upload and download content and access many other special features. | Are newbies welcome? I am long time player of nwn and i've played many of the sp modules on nwvault.com but i've never tried roleplaying on a persistant world. As i would like to try it out and as the world of Layonara looks amazing (atleast thats my impression after reading the handbook ), its here that i would like to start. But as im quite new to roleplaying in realtime (in the singelplayer games you can always think how long you wish before answearing anyone), i wonder if this is the place to start or if i should start practicing on less rp oriented servers?

| RE: Are newbies welcome? This is a great place to start, the player base is awesome, so don't worry if you're new to RP. I was pretty new myself and did fine around here.
I encourage you to try this place, it's by far the best NwN server i've ever played in.
Welcome to Layonara!

| RE: Are newbies welcome? I think Layonara is a good place to start personally.
You don't have to be the worlds best RPer. As time goes by, you will improve as you practice.
I say submit a character and jump in and get your feet wet!

| RE: Are newbies welcome? This is my first server in general, when it comes to NWN...My advice: If your getting chased by a monster, don't go into town! I got yelled at because of it...."Someone could've gotten hurt!" Said the high level guy...jeez. lol | | |

I necer felt welcome. Here, right away I was feeling home. Granted I have not played on many but that is just because I havn't needed to look since I found Layo.
a few notes:
try to keep your ooc (out of Character) chat behind the scenes. You do this by sending the player a private tell. If you mean to talk to your entire party use the //ooc I have to go now, bye.
as a player treat others as you want to be treated. As a character, have fun.
this should get you started. Submit your char and come on in, we will be waiting.

| RE: Are newbies welcome? Layonara ran an in-game Role Playing 101 event not too long ago, just to help people like you (and me) get the hang of how to role-play. If the GM staff doesn't plan to do another one of these soon, I may put together a player led session that would gather together low level characters (and their new players) and have a session where my bard could share stories about the server's main plot, answer questions about basic things, and give everyone a chance to role-play their new characters in a forgiving environment where they wouldn't fell stupid or rushed. Would there be any interest in or need for this type of thing? | | |

| RE: Are newbies welcome? Well, when I am the starter town, and see new people...I usually help them - There is this one guy I met who was like "were cn i go?" but, after some advice about roleplaying his character and a gentle push in the right direction, he started to get in it and said proper grammer like "Where can I go?"
Don't be scared to ask questions, none will see you and go "Get away from me noob!" or anything like that - I asked lots of questions when I started out and now I'm quite alright and it's tons of fun. Made friends and enemies at the same time with Tedulas.
Just one thing, don't be like "I want to be nice all the time" Type...that's boring...
Be fun!

| RE: Are newbies welcome? ÂIn my opinion Layonara's a great place to start RPing. A few things to keep in mind are... - ÂKeep in character while talking normally or in Party mode... keeps the atmosphere n' stuff.
- ÂQuestions are good, better to ask questions than look stupid with assumptions. If you need to ask a question in game send a Tell or put // or (( before your question to symbolize that it's out of character.
- ÂTake nothing personally if it's done in character (andÂyou should know). If people don't talk to your character, or insult him/her, or threaten him/her, there's gonna be an RP reason behind it...Âwe're good about weeding out the psychos...Â

| RE: Are newbies welcome? Oh yea... the character introductions also help with the process known as "the weeding out of the ones that like to cause greif no matter what"; which also has other names.

| RE: Are newbies welcome? Layonara is perfect, no need to look further or pay insane amounts of money for things like World of Warcraft of Everquest. I myself had never played an RP game before I came here. In a matter of minutes I was amazed, I never thought a thing like a PW existed. And to top it all with people who don't curse and use "leet speak" all the time and instead play normally.
What can I say, I've been here for two years and I love it

| RE: Are newbies welcome? Layo was my first persistent world I played and would probably be the last as well.
What I mean is that what I have found here is truely amazing and I really enjoy it, no need to look for something else in my opinion.
Started as someone very new to RP, but with the help of many others here, I learned quickly and must say this is the most fun I have ever had in any game.
What I like is the diversity, when you get ingame you can choose what you feel like that day: - you can craft - you can gather components -Âyou can fight - you can explore - you can quest - and lastly you can sit for hours just roleplaying
And then the last thing I love about this world is the people. Everyone is friendly, helpful and mature.
So create your character and join us....

| Har! I second that! I been here only a month now and I suffer from sleepdeprivation. Drink 200% more coffee than normally and sit in the Taverns of Layo drinkin and talkin much longer than is good fer me health at any rate. | | |
