New Character Approvers

Want to help out? Due to natural attrition, there is the need for a few more character approvers.

What makes a good character approver?

1) Good writing and communication skills are a must. This text based medium makes it easy for intent to be misinterpreted.

2) Time to devote to the job. The amount of time it takes will vary on the number of submissions received. A good rule of thumb is: are you ready to take an hour a day from your playing time to review submissions and type responses. Some days it will be less, some days it will be more.

3) Knowledge of Layonara lore and rules. The Layonara lore is a must, but LORE is a wealth of knowledge to clarify when you're not sure. Working knowledge of the genre helps when biographies are either intentionally or unintentionally not the original work of the player. While not a must, it helps.

4) The ability to work in a team. It may sound obvious but teamwork is important. You need to feel comfortable working on your own but at the same time asking for help if you are not sure of something.

I have been playing for 1.5 years.

Aside from wanting to give back to this community, I would like a chance to help others, and myself refine their sense of character development through back story. I would also like to encourage and learn more about immersion in the lore of the world.

I think I would be well-suited to this job as I am an actor and writer myself and creating backstories and bios is something I do on a regular basis. I have submitted three characters and I have never had to make so much as an amendment to any of the submissions, which I feel shows a strong sense of what Layonara is looking for in character submissions.

I would be available Monday to Friday, from 10am to 3pm EDT.

Been here for almost three years now. I've enjoyed this community for all this time, it's a small way for me to give back some to it. I enjoy reading good stories, and if I can help people where I have been helped in the past, that would be satisfying.

Writing skills beside typos and grammar.. err they're okay. I think I can get my point across without brushing feathers

I'm no way perfect on lore, but I have lots of time on my hand to read in between calls at the office, there for, I can devote a good amount of time to read the submission each day. And I have no problem with working within a team. So basically from 9 am til 2 am, I would be available to read and review bios. Yes I know, I don't sleep much.

I've been a member of the community for a little more than three years. I believe I've played on the server nearly a year.

Why do you want to be a character approver and what make you think it is a position for you?
I'm a big fan of RPGs, particularly those that know how to tell a decent story. I also have a good idea of the amount of detail, work, and time required. I am also able to provide clear, constructive feedback. I also wish to give something back to the community. Not to mention I've been reading the new character submissions for a few weeks now.

Time(s) you would be available through the day approving characters:
Starting around 10:00 A.M. GMT-6(+1) until August 25th. After the 25th, I am able provide input starting late afternoon/early evening on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

I want to do this as I feel a need to give back to the community of players that have made my days so enjoyable. The reason I think I will make a good approver is that I am not shy to ask for help and will always do my best to do everything in a fair and timely manner. I may not know everything but that is one the fun things as I can learn what I do not know as I am more then willing to grow.

Given that this comes on the heels of GM applications - I have been requested to keep this open one more week to see if there are any more that are interested. To that end - names will be taken until Aug 25th then the ~~torture~~...err interviews begin.
