| Introduce Yourself Take the time to say hello and introduce yourself and maybe ask a question or two. | | Welcome to the Layonara forums!
Layonara is so much more than a game. We started off as a tabletop Dungeons and Dragons campaign more than a decade ago. Since then we have developed into a fantasy world with as much compelling and engrossing detail as you will find anywhere.
Our current showcase is a Neverwinter Nights version of Layonara, where our world comes to life in a finely polished persistent world which you can play free of charge. These forums are set up to support and accentuate our player's experiences, but it goes far beyond that.
After years of passionate effort, our world is so well developed, so detailed, so refined that any of the handbooks, maps, historical accounts, legends, descriptions of artifacts, creature reports, character biographies, short stories, novels, movies and original art which populate these forums can surely serve as resources or inspiration for your own fantasy endeavors, whatever they may be. And our world is endlessly evolving, so resources are frequently added and updated.
There are also years of sage advice and commentary on role-playing, gaming and online community development stored in these forums. If camaraderie is what you seek, we offer that too. Our community is as active and supportive as you're likely to find on the internet. In short, these forums are a resource for you to use for whatever purpose or project brought you here.
We're confident that you will find what you are looking for, and likely, substantially more.
Please be our guest and browse around the forums which are available to you. As you do, keep in mind that you are sampling only a portion of what Layonara has to offer. Membership in our community is free, and allows you to establish a Layonara identity to pose your questions and share your thoughts on the forums. When you join you'll also be able to communicate privately to other members (PMs), establish and respond to polls, upload and download content and access many other special features. | jjkolb WHO I AM:
Jeff Kolb. Male, 5' 10", approximately 175 lbs, light brown hair, no tattoos. Born in 1968 in Jackson, Michigan. BA in Finance from Michigan State University. I am 38 years old and married to the best wife a man could have. We have three children (all boys) ages 4, 4, and 3. Favorite band: KISS. Favorite superhero: Batman. Favorite sports team: Green Bay Packers. Favorite TV character: Arthur Fonzarelli (the "Fonz").
HOW I GOT HERE:
I started playing AD&D 1.0 back in the early eighties with friends from the neighborhood. We used miniatures made of lead and dice that had to have the numbers colored in with crayon. Modules like Keep on the Borderlands, Ravenloft, Horror on the Hill, and Against the Giants were some of my favorites. You tried to get the lowest AC possible and -10 was the best you could do. THAC0-good times, good times.
Along came the Commodore 64, the greatest gaming machine, ever. Video games replaced PnP among my group of friends. All of the CRPG were single player, however. My favorites were The Bard's Tale, Ultimas I, II, and III, Questron I and II, Phantasie, and Legacy of the Ancients.
Then I went to college and gave up on CRPGs for a while-until Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale. Those got me hooked again. I kept looking at NWN but my system at the time was not able to run it. Finally I was able to buy the gold version and started playing the OC. It was cool but I still longed to play with other people.
I started to look into these things called Persistent Worlds. The first one I found was Layonara Online. It sounded interesting so I wrote up a character submission and met the dragon. That was more than two years ago. I have made a few good friends here, sadly some have left. My NWN time is limited but enjoy the interaction every time I am on.
My one and only character's name, Klaugraquene Dragonbane (Klaug), is from my old PnP days. We had trouble coming up with names for our characters so I designed a random name generator, hence the odd name. Klaug is in the mold of Sturm Brightblade, the knight from the Dragonlance novels.
Thanks to Leanthar and the team for creating and maintaining a tremendous world for us to play in.

| Re: jjkolb G'day Jeff,
Reading through your intro, I have decided we could have travelled through each others lives almost interchangeably.
It's weird, from the C64 to the finance degree to the ages and number of kids to the reverance held for the Fonz!
Only differences as far as I can determine, I live in Australia, you in the States, I am taller and my wife (who is NOT the best wife a man could have) just told me you are better looking. *shakes fist at wife*
Cheers,
Pseudonym

"Yeaaahhhh. I'm going to need you to go ahead and shave off that moustache...mmm-kay?"

Cheers,
Pseudonym | That does sound weird. You know, one of the things I want to do before I die is to cage dive in great white shark infested waters. So when I'm about to head for the Great Barrier Reef, I'll send you a PM. Maybe we can swap C64 games. My system and disks still work!

Since we're talking about C64s, a guy two years ahead of me back in high school connected one to some sort of laser in one of the labs. The beam was split into multiple beams firing at multiple sensors. If you broke a laser line, the C64 would play a tone. There was a different tone for every laser/sensor combo. It was a laser harp, and it was twice as cool as it would have been simply because it was built on a C64.
Anyway, hello again. *waves*

Laser harps are cool, though, and... Yeeeaah... I really have to say... Mustaches just aren't professional.
They can get caught in the copier.
