Introduce Yourself Take the time to say hello and introduce yourself and maybe ask a question or two.

Welcome to the Layonara forums!

Layonara is so much more than a game. We started off as a tabletop Dungeons and Dragons campaign more than a decade ago. Since then we have developed into a fantasy world with as much compelling and engrossing detail as you will find anywhere.

Our current showcase is a Neverwinter Nights version of Layonara, where our world comes to life in a finely polished persistent world which you can play free of charge. These forums are set up to support and accentuate our player's experiences, but it goes far beyond that.

After years of passionate effort, our world is so well developed, so detailed, so refined that any of the handbooks, maps, historical accounts, legends, descriptions of artifacts, creature reports, character biographies, short stories, novels, movies and original art which populate these forums can surely serve as resources or inspiration for your own fantasy endeavors, whatever they may be. And our world is endlessly evolving, so resources are frequently added and updated.

There are also years of sage advice and commentary on role-playing, gaming and online community development stored in these forums. If camaraderie is what you seek, we offer that too. Our community is as active and supportive as you're likely to find on the internet. In short, these forums are a resource for you to use for whatever purpose or project brought you here.

We're confident that you will find what you are looking for, and likely, substantially more.

Please be our guest and browse around the forums which are available to you. As you do, keep in mind that you are sampling only a portion of what Layonara has to offer. Membership in our community is free, and allows you to establish a Layonara identity to pose your questions and share your thoughts on the forums. When you join you'll also be able to communicate privately to other members (PMs), establish and respond to polls, upload and download content and access many other special features. Default Allean, Xan and Grohin puppetmaster

Well *clears his throat*

I'm not use to that but I could as well do it for once.

My name is Marc, and I live in Switzerland (yes, that small country in the middle of Europe but which doesn't really belongs to it *sighs*).
Age? You want to know it? Oh well... guess it won't hurt, I was born in 1976... now make the calculation yourself.
What I do... I work for a real estate agency as a clerk... no no not a cleric *grins*, after getting a degree in English Literature at University, with a slight accent put on medieval english... and that doesn't mean Shakespeare but what comes before it... Beowulf, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, The Battle of Maldon (read that if you want to know what's 'Honor' means and where it could leads you), La Morte d'Artur... . And I must say I quite like those, especially the Epic poems and such.

Other interests? Reading... lot of different things but mostly sc-fi (Asimov, Philip K. 'word is censured' *shrugs*...) and fantasy (first and foremost, Tolkien, Feist, and on a slightly more comic side, Pratchett).

Computer games ... I think I've been playing since I was.. oh well cannot remember, but it was the time of the Mac SE the very small all-in-one fabulous computer. And my favorite game on it was Dark Castle ... drats, rats. And I'm still playing today... and I'm still using a Mac despite everything. Only concessions to the "enemy"? Have to work on them at work and I bought a laptop not long ago ... to play NWN2 *grins*.

And of course Layonara since ferbruary 2006... never played online-rpg before, played a little on first person shooter, and played the official NWN campaigns and a few modules. And my only other RP experience before that was, what, three live RP events (three days spent sleeping in a tent playing soldier/mage whatever, trying to understand the goings on while drinking beer most day long. Never had a big role in those but was always a fun time spent with friends). So basically Layo is my first online RP server and I don't want to go look elsewhere.

My characters?
Allean D'oremm, the ranger - not seen that much around these days
Xandrian Mor, the ex-officer - only taking his old bones out for a stroll from time to time.
Grohin Silveraxe, Dwarven Battlepriest of Vorax - do I need to say more *laughs*

I always wondered how a Swiss guy had better typed English spelling, grammar and ability to cope with accents than me, a born and bred Englishman

That surprises me. I always had you pegged as English too.

Kudos on the medieval literature too. Most people I've met here wouldn't have the patience for that sort of thing *sigh*

Thanks,

though as far as medieval literature goes, even though I did have to read some of it in the 'original' version, I read most of them in translation, i.e. in modern english, especially those text written in 'Old' english (roughly before the Norman conquest of 1066). Later text are somewhat easier as they are written in a language that is more and more like Shakespearian english.

I still find it admirable. I did a music course a few years back and a lot of the people on that were critising me for listening to "really old" music (the cd in question was from 1986). I just find it a shame that a lot of people these days, especially my generation (i'm 20), don't appreciate "classic" works of art. I don't know about over there, but here in England, is become somewhat "uncool" to read books at all, let alone old ones. I find that a shame.

Anyway, sorry for hijacking your thread, heh.

Beowulf was awesome, though I had to read it in translation, as well... I can't read anything older than Chaucer, and even Chaucer is really tough for me. Then again, I don't have a degree in premodern English.
