| Introduce Yourself Take the time to say hello and introduce yourself and maybe ask a question or two. | | Welcome to the Layonara forums!
Layonara is so much more than a game. We started off as a tabletop Dungeons and Dragons campaign more than a decade ago. Since then we have developed into a fantasy world with as much compelling and engrossing detail as you will find anywhere.
Our current showcase is a Neverwinter Nights version of Layonara, where our world comes to life in a finely polished persistent world which you can play free of charge. These forums are set up to support and accentuate our player's experiences, but it goes far beyond that.
After years of passionate effort, our world is so well developed, so detailed, so refined that any of the handbooks, maps, historical accounts, legends, descriptions of artifacts, creature reports, character biographies, short stories, novels, movies and original art which populate these forums can surely serve as resources or inspiration for your own fantasy endeavors, whatever they may be. And our world is endlessly evolving, so resources are frequently added and updated.
There are also years of sage advice and commentary on role-playing, gaming and online community development stored in these forums. If camaraderie is what you seek, we offer that too. Our community is as active and supportive as you're likely to find on the internet. In short, these forums are a resource for you to use for whatever purpose or project brought you here.
We're confident that you will find what you are looking for, and likely, substantially more.
Please be our guest and browse around the forums which are available to you. As you do, keep in mind that you are sampling only a portion of what Layonara has to offer. Membership in our community is free, and allows you to establish a Layonara identity to pose your questions and share your thoughts on the forums. | Hi again. Nobody here would likely remember me, but I used to play a long time ago. Anyhow, I stopped playing completely, then started again on a different PW, then stopped for a long time, and recently started again. I remembered this PW in particular. Not that I was well-known, or even fairly high level, but I do remember having a few good roleplaying adventures with a few players.
So here's the deal. I'm thinking of trying to start up again, an dI'd like to ask some questions.
1. I don't remember, and can't seem to find the info. Just how big, in terms of areas, is the world? One thing I've come to learn over the years is that alot of developers, though their intentions are good, make the worlds just too darn big. 1000+ areas with 20, or even 40 players has been overkill on the PWs I tried. Too much open space. Spreads the players out too much. Etc... So I was wondering if someone could give me an idea of how big this one is, and how well populated it is.
2. Does this PW still not use CEP?
3. My memory is really foggy on this, so it may well be totally wrong, but way back when I played, I think you had to be here for a whole year before you could take a prestige class. Is there anything like that in effect? It's just a snippet of old info floating around in my head that I needed clarified.
4. Is it forced grouping? As in player characters are so weak that you walk out of town and get destroyed by a rat?
That's all I can think of to ask at the moment. I'm going over the info on the encyclopedia page. There sure is alot to take in, but hopefully, I should be able to assimilate enough so that I can start without being complety ignorant of the world. Thanks in advance for any helpful info.

| Re: Hi again. In answer: - All told, with the three servers, there are more than 2000 areas - and the population is usually more than sufficient. Forty or so people are online at peak hours.
- It uses a number of CEP innovations, but packaged specially into their own hakpaks - it does not use the unadulterated CEP.
- Prestige classes don't take a year, but you have to present a CDT or CDQ to get 'em, and that can take a little while.
- Soloing is possible, just harder. Rats aren't immediately deadly.
Kobolds, on the other hand....
Welcome back - it's a good place. | | |

| Re: Hi again. Thanks. Just what I was looking for. Came up with a few more.
Do potential players still need to submit character bios for approval before they play? I always thought that was an excellent addition to the PW.
What's the level cap? Alot of PWs cap levels at 20 to prevent the imbalances that epic levels bring. Is this one of them, or can players eventually get to 40?
Thanks again for any helpful info.

| The level cap is 40, but don't expect very fast leveling (after level 7 or 8). I think only a handful of active players have gotten over level 30. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
