| Just for Fun A forum section to lighten your day with jokes, funny links, and things that make you laugh. Keep them clean and remember this is a family server. | | Welcome to the Layonara forums!
Layonara is so much more than a game. We started off as a tabletop Dungeons and Dragons campaign more than a decade ago. Since then we have developed into a fantasy world with as much compelling and engrossing detail as you will find anywhere.
Our current showcase is a Neverwinter Nights version of Layonara, where our world comes to life in a finely polished persistent world which you can play free of charge. These forums are set up to support and accentuate our player's experiences, but it goes far beyond that.
After years of passionate effort, our world is so well developed, so detailed, so refined that any of the handbooks, maps, historical accounts, legends, descriptions of artifacts, creature reports, character biographies, short stories, novels, movies and original art which populate these forums can surely serve as resources or inspiration for your own fantasy endeavors, whatever they may be. And our world is endlessly evolving, so resources are frequently added and updated.
There are also years of sage advice and commentary on role-playing, gaming and online community development stored in these forums. If camaraderie is what you seek, we offer that too. Our community is as active and supportive as you're likely to find on the internet. In short, these forums are a resource for you to use for whatever purpose or project brought you here.
We're confident that you will find what you are looking for, and likely, substantially more.
Please be our guest and browse around the forums which are available to you. As you do, keep in mind that you are sampling only a portion of what Layonara has to offer. Membership in our community is free, and allows you to establish a Layonara identity to pose your questions and share your thoughts on the forums. When you join you'll also be able to communicate privately to other members (PMs), establish and respond to polls, upload and download content and access many other special features. | Layo Jam! Welcome to the "Darkstorme Harebrained Ideas Hour!" Today's harebrained idea sprung from some info garnered from the "player behind the character" thread - that there are instrumentalists of one level of ability or another out there! Now, from the meagre sampling available via the thread, we've got the following musicians: <ul> [*]1 pianist [*]1 oboeist [*]1 clarinettist [*]2 guitarists [*]1 violinist [*]1 trumpeter [*]1 tuba player [/list]In addition to these musicians, we have a drummer. There are also a host of people who said that they "used to" play an instrument, or that they play one, but did not specify.. and I'm sure there are others out there! So, the idea itself: a collaborative Internet performance, featuring Layo's musical talent! (Not real-time, of course, that'd be silly.) There are two ways we could go about this. First, we could choose some actual piece of music that's available free of charge in score form and work our selection of instruments around it (this may mean that our poor overworked violinist will need to lay down multiple tracks), or we could have someone (a bassist, guitarist, or pianist) lay down a bass line and jam around it. The latter is easier, I'll admit, but the former is far more intricate. If there's some support, I'll dig up some scores, and we can vote/decide by consensus, and we'll establish the first track. This track will be made available somewhere (TBA) in MP3 form (if audiophiles want to argue, they're free to do so). Each successive instrumentalist can then download the (progressively updated) MP3, load it into Audacity, slip on some headphones and record their part overtop. It might sound like carp, or it might sound amazing - but I'm guessing it'll still be a lot of fun to watch develop. So, let's see a show of support, and then the first piece in a Layonaran concert can begin! | | |

| Re: Layo Jam! If this goes anywhere... I'm a singer (in case you pick something with vocals) and I can arrange a bit. At least, I should be able to... *fourth-year B.Mus. student* Theoretically I can arrange.

*pulls out the tuba* Ready when you are.
I think a nice march would be good too...

| RE: Layo Jam! I can imagine it all ready...there i am, playing the piano with my PDA recording it. My wife walks past and asks me what the hell I'm doing. I tell her 'I'm recording it for the Layo Jam'!
She raises here eye's to the sky, starts packing her things and decides I'm too crazy to stay married to...hehe. Truely, it sounds like fun but I doubt I'll have the time. Anyway I'm no where near as good as I used to be on the piano. I tried some scales the other day and ended up getting angry why my left hand would synchronise fluidly with my right..etc. God I'm rusty though it's a nice excuse to start practicing again. *cracks his fingers*
Actualy I tried playing Billy Joel's 'piano man' the other day (used to play it perfectly). I think if he heard how bad I was he'd send an assassin over to put me out of my misery. Sorry Billy!

| Re: Layo Jam! The Bodhrun is a quite enjoyable instrument. I don't know about its place in an orchestral or jazz setting, but it remains an instrument. I've come across quite a few free arrangements of classical and traditional music, so if there proves enough enthusiasm, I'll start laying down tracks. *cheers people on* | | |

I cannot play an instrument but am quite happy to take the position of manager (on a 50/50 gross income split)
