Just for Fun A forum section to lighten your day with jokes, funny links, and things that make you laugh. Keep them clean and remember this is a family server.

Welcome to the Layonara forums!

Layonara is so much more than a game. We started off as a tabletop Dungeons and Dragons campaign more than a decade ago. Since then we have developed into a fantasy world with as much compelling and engrossing detail as you will find anywhere.

Our current showcase is a Neverwinter Nights version of Layonara, where our world comes to life in a finely polished persistent world which you can play free of charge. These forums are set up to support and accentuate our player's experiences, but it goes far beyond that.

After years of passionate effort, our world is so well developed, so detailed, so refined that any of the handbooks, maps, historical accounts, legends, descriptions of artifacts, creature reports, character biographies, short stories, novels, movies and original art which populate these forums can surely serve as resources or inspiration for your own fantasy endeavors, whatever they may be. And our world is endlessly evolving, so resources are frequently added and updated.

There are also years of sage advice and commentary on role-playing, gaming and online community development stored in these forums. If camaraderie is what you seek, we offer that too. Our community is as active and supportive as you're likely to find on the internet. In short, these forums are a resource for you to use for whatever purpose or project brought you here.

We're confident that you will find what you are looking for, and likely, substantially more.

Please be our guest and browse around the forums which are available to you. As you do, keep in mind that you are sampling only a portion of what Layonara has to offer. Membership in our community is free, and allows you to establish a Layonara identity to pose your questions and share your thoughts on the forums. When you join you'll also be able to communicate privately to other members (PMs), establish and respond to polls, upload and download content and access many other special features. Default Galactic Civilizations II owns my Soul...

Wow... and I mean wow. I never thought anybody would ever top Civ IV, now I stand corrected. The gameplay is very similar, set in outer space pitting humans against a plethora of aliens in a turn based strategy sim of galactic conquest, diplomacy, tech research and trade the likes of which just blow my mind. The graphics are nice and crisp, yet minimal, the AI incredibly scaleable... haven't encountered any load-time whatsoever for when the CPU is thinking... and when you turn on adcanced CPU algorithm based AI, it's pretty responsive and intense... yet unlike other civ games, the CPU doesn't "cheat" by seeing through fog of war. It's literally designed to be modded heavily, already there's a group making a Star Trek pack for it, you can import your own pics and create your own player or enemy races, scenarios, etc. Cultural, Technical, Diplomacy & Conguest victories, technology and resource trading, Alliances, the works. 3 types of ship weapons and armors used specifically for defending against them... ie: If you use a beam weapon, energy shields disperse them, but hulls and electromagnetic jammers only do the square root of defense, ballistics are thwarted by hulls, missiles are thwarted by eletromagnetic jammers, etc... so customizing ships is key... and Ship customization is EXTENSIVE. You can sit there for hours making the perfect ship and save it to your library for future games for every different situation and tech-level.

Oh maaan... and the kicker is that it runs on systems as ancient as PIII 600mhz w/ 128mb RAM and a 64mb video card. The designer even made copywrite protection minimal so you can install it on every computer in your house and play without the cds. Brad Wardell is a game-designing GOD! If he and Sid Meyer ever made clone-babies, the world would be doomed to an eternity of turn-based addiction!
