And our world is endlessly evolving, so resources are frequently added and updated.

| Re: MMO Screenshots - Pre Alpha Ooooh, nice water textures and skyboxes! Will the new format be swimming-capable? Any jumping to get over rocky terrain? This seriously looks better than Morrowind!
One of the things that tick me off about NWN is how ridiculously it handles terrain. Like you'll take an entire party up a sheer rockface around 10,000 meters high, only to have to turn back when the evil wizard's tower is protected by a *gasp* 3 foot tall, invincible, unpassable shrubbery. One thing I think none of these MMORPG engines have tried is freestyle climbing. In Gothic 3, you can kind of try to bunny hop yourself up a mountain with limited success, but most of the time in these games you're limited to sticking to the roads and flatlands, and just being able to gaze upon the mountain from afar. I can't wait to get out of the NWN tilesets where every single placetable is impenetrable, and all the water more than 3 inches deep is fatal as hot lava. It's sort of like the Mario complex where he's running around in surface levels and one misplaces jump into the water kills him, yet the next level he somehow manages to hold his breath and swim underwater indefinately.

| Re: MMO Screenshots - Pre Alpha That is correct. We are using a heavily modified version of the engine (TGE) from Garage Games and it is geared for an MMO.

| Re: MMO Screenshots - Pre Alpha Thanks for the info L, especially for that regarding the engine.
If I dare confess it, another MMO I already play on uses the TGE engine to great effect. OK, in that instance it's a a version of Carwars, so about as far away from Layo as you can get, but I can testify that it is fast, flexible, and very versatile.
For the little my opinion is worth - probably a good choice

| Re: MMO Screenshots - Pre Alpha I have to say that the graphics of the landscapes are phenominal. However, one thing that makes or breaks me on these games are the graphics of the avatars. For instance, I think that NWN hit the mark on avatars and NWN2 missed it. Which one will the avatars in the new Layo resemble? Another one is the 'inflight' weaponry. Visible or no? For example: http://forums.layonara.com/photopost...p?photo=112422

Sure, there may be some though I am not sure at what level, but it certainly will not be "bloody and gore filled". Not only is Layonara not about that but it it would not fit in with allowing families to play together; not in my books.

| Re: MMO Screenshots - Pre Alpha I just found a pretty little demo video of the Torque Game Engine, and you can see projectiles! Just thought I'd post this here: YouTube - Torque Game Engine 1.5.2 Walk Through
The engine looks amazing! Now I'm excited!
Disclaimer: Obviously this in no way reflects what the finished layo game might look like, but it's still pretty!

| Re: MMO Screenshots - Pre Alpha I'm a little late on this, but would there perhaps be a setting for one to turn the gore all the way up? I'm with 8bit and likes me my gore. Doom 3 was a dream for me... A pants-wettingly terrifying dream, but a dream nonetheless.
I understand that there's no real reason to include THAT kind of violence, even as a setting that comes defaulted as much lower, but... Something along the lines of NWN, or maybe a bit higher on the top end, might be nice, IMO.

if that is the basics the team has to work with, then we will have to make a new set of awards and have them ready, cause its going to blow nwn2 off the map

| Re: MMO Screenshots - Pre Alpha I think the team knows that blood and gore is needed. It's on the lines of the 13 years rated thing. And, since we strive to be so realist, is a little strange to cut the aberration with many tentacles and blood not spill (indeed, the green blood of some monsters on NWN is very apropriate to some aberrations). About the gore, I like the "special" option of NWN, of some creatures exploding sometimes. But it's a personal taste.

| Re: MMO Screenshots - Pre Alpha imo it should be optional....but available. This is the generaly trend in games now days and in my opinion some level of gore is necessary for immersion. What I would say is a reasonable level, acceptable to the situation.
As for the 13yo kiddies, in Australia at least, if you're 13 you shouldn't be playing NWN as it's rated M 15+ :P. Would one of the Americans enlighten me as to what the age requirement for NWN is up there?
To get a PG rating in general, at least in Australia is quite hard. Even having some sort of violent combat is enough to lose a PG rating...hell as I said original NWN had M15+ | | |

| Re: MMO Screenshots - Pre Alpha heh... what the actual rating is is rather irrelevant herein the States, without much enforcement of it.
On topic though, it had honestly never occurred to me that people would choose not to play a game because it had too little gore... I'm just the opposite, I don't mind some blood, but I won't play games where I'm forced to sit through buckets of gore. An optional higher violence level wouldn't bother me, personally... but I see threads like this one and question whether the community would be the same if the game did allow for more blood and guts.

Sure, there may be some though I am not sure at what level, but it certainly will not be "bloody and gore filled". Not only is Layonara not about that but it it would not fit in with allowing families to play together; not in my books. | I agree with you here, although a option for it could be done for those who wants it with parental control like nwn does it. A parent that installs the game and lets his son/daughter play, could set a password to lock the gore out.

| Re: MMO Screenshots - Pre Alpha Would any views of the Toolbar be coming available? Im a hater for having 50 "tiny", barely viewable buttons along the bottom of my screen and accidentaly pressing something like "Meteor storm whole party" when I should have been pressing " Heal party"... ect
Just curious to see how the control panel would be looking for Actions/Spells..ect

| Re: MMO Screenshots - Pre Alpha The UI is not in any sort of state where we'd want to show it off just yet, but eventually, yes.
In the mean time, I suggest placing the Meteor Storm and Heal Party buttons a little further away from each other. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
