| Layonara MMO Please use this forum to discuss the Layonara MMO. | | Welcome to the Layonara forums!
Layonara is so much more than a game. We started off as a tabletop Dungeons and Dragons campaign more than a decade ago. Since then we have developed into a fantasy world with as much compelling and engrossing detail as you will find anywhere.
Our current showcase is a Neverwinter Nights version of Layonara, where our world comes to life in a finely polished persistent world which you can play free of charge. These forums are set up to support and accentuate our player's experiences, but it goes far beyond that.
After years of passionate effort, our world is so well developed, so detailed, so refined that any of the handbooks, maps, historical accounts, legends, descriptions of artifacts, creature reports, character biographies, short stories, novels, movies and original art which populate these forums can surely serve as resources or inspiration for your own fantasy endeavors, whatever they may be. And our world is endlessly evolving, so resources are frequently added and updated.
There are also years of sage advice and commentary on role-playing, gaming and online community development stored in these forums. If camaraderie is what you seek, we offer that too. Our community is as active and supportive as you're likely to find on the internet. In short, these forums are a resource for you to use for whatever purpose or project brought you here.
We're confident that you will find what you are looking for, and likely, substantially more.
Please be our guest and browse around the forums which are available to you. As you do, keep in mind that you are sampling only a portion of what Layonara has to offer. Membership in our community is free, and allows you to establish a Layonara identity to pose your questions and share your thoughts on the forums. | Re: MMO Screenshots - Pre Alpha Ooooh, nice water textures and skyboxes! Will the new format be swimming-capable? Any jumping to get over rocky terrain? This seriously looks better than Morrowind!
One of the things that tick me off about NWN is how ridiculously it handles terrain. Like you'll take an entire party up a sheer rockface around 10,000 meters high, only to have to turn back when the evil wizard's tower is protected by a *gasp* 3 foot tall, invincible, unpassable shrubbery. One thing I think none of these MMORPG engines have tried is freestyle climbing. In Gothic 3, you can kind of try to bunny hop yourself up a mountain with limited success, but most of the time in these games you're limited to sticking to the roads and flatlands, and just being able to gaze upon the mountain from afar. I can't wait to get out of the NWN tilesets where every single placetable is impenetrable, and all the water more than 3 inches deep is fatal as hot lava. It's sort of like the Mario complex where he's running around in surface levels and one misplaces jump into the water kills him, yet the next level he somehow manages to hold his breath and swim underwater indefinately.

| Re: MMO Screenshots - Pre Alpha I can see the style you all are going for and I am a fan of it. We don't need Crysis to roleplay, and what I am seeing in those screenshots looks like it will set up the perfect environment for fun. | | | | The Following 3 Users Say Thank You to Eight-Bit For This Useful Post: | |

| Re: MMO Screenshots - Pre Alpha That is correct. We are using a heavily modified version of the engine (TGE) from Garage Games and it is geared for an MMO.
The FAQ will be updated. | | | | The Following 3 Users Say Thank You to Leanthar For This Useful Post: | |

| Re: MMO Screenshots - Pre Alpha Thanks for the info L, especially for that regarding the engine.
If I dare confess it, another MMO I already play on uses the TGE engine to great effect. OK, in that instance it's a a version of Carwars, so about as far away from Layo as you can get, but I can testify that it is fast, flexible, and very versatile.
For the little my opinion is worth - probably a good choice

| Re: MMO Screenshots - Pre Alpha I have to say that the graphics of the landscapes are phenominal. However, one thing that makes or breaks me on these games are the graphics of the avatars. For instance, I think that NWN hit the mark on avatars and NWN2 missed it. Which one will the avatars in the new Layo resemble? Another one is the 'inflight' weaponry. Visible or no? For example: http://forums.layonara.com/photopost...p?photo=112422

| Re: MMO Screenshots - Pre Alpha Considering the game engine used is Torque, the projectiles will likely be visible to an extent.
