Layonara MMO Please use this forum to discuss the Layonara MMO.

Welcome to the Layonara forums!

Layonara is so much more than a game. We started off as a tabletop Dungeons and Dragons campaign more than a decade ago. Since then we have developed into a fantasy world with as much compelling and engrossing detail as you will find anywhere.

Our current showcase is a Neverwinter Nights version of Layonara, where our world comes to life in a finely polished persistent world which you can play free of charge. These forums are set up to support and accentuate our player's experiences, but it goes far beyond that.

After years of passionate effort, our world is so well developed, so detailed, so refined that any of the handbooks, maps, historical accounts, legends, descriptions of artifacts, creature reports, character biographies, short stories, novels, movies and original art which populate these forums can surely serve as resources or inspiration for your own fantasy endeavors, whatever they may be. And our world is endlessly evolving, so resources are frequently added and updated.

There are also years of sage advice and commentary on role-playing, gaming and online community development stored in these forums. If camaraderie is what you seek, we offer that too. Our community is as active and supportive as you're likely to find on the internet. In short, these forums are a resource for you to use for whatever purpose or project brought you here.

We're confident that you will find what you are looking for, and likely, substantially more.

Please be our guest and browse around the forums which are available to you. As you do, keep in mind that you are sampling only a portion of what Layonara has to offer. Membership in our community is free, and allows you to establish a Layonara identity to pose your questions and share your thoughts on the forums. Default Equipment/Spell configurations

Ok, I want to make a suggestion that has been one of the biggest annoyances with computer RPGs for me. In the games that have so much detail with pieces of equipment and number of things like spells that are put into slots for equipment or memorization, there is one capability that I have found lacking that I think would be relatively easy to program. NWN has quick slots for various things but I would like to suggest something one step higher and have the ability to save an entire equipment configuration in a quick slot or something like that. The way I envision it working is that a character equips all of the items for a certain situation (sneaking or combat in a no magic area or negotiation for example) and then presses the "save configuration" button and then a quickslot button in the inventory screen is assigned to the equipment configuration. When that button is pressed then all of that equipment is equiped. If an item in a configuration is no longer posessed then either a blank is substituted or the entire configuration is cleared. This would save lots of clicks when changing situations and of course things like not being able to change armor in combat and appropriate RP for time to change gear would still apply to the entire configuration change.

This idea could be applied to spell books as well and would help casters to save lots of time filling spell slots. The spell book could be filled for a particular situation (max damage artilery mage or max healing or max buffing for instance) then press the "save configuration" button and assign a quickslot in the spell book screen to represent the entire configuration" Changing a spell would of course clear the slot and require rest to cast it but you would save all of the clicking to reconfigure the spell book. It would be really cool if the MMO had this capability.

Something of a "String slot"...

this makes me hope that Armor and even clothing has some VFX that happens over a period of time showing both the time and effort required to change clothes. Jewlery is a fairly quick change, but it would still be neat to see a VFX of putting on a ring.

If put that idea with a "String Slot," then you could watch your character go through all the set motions for the equipment listed in the "String Slot." Hence, the changing would also take longer. Would be pretty cool if, say, applying full plate took, like, thirty seconds, but you got to see each piece applied and fastened and such. Would keep you from switching things around too much in combat, but even switching rings (like from one that gives +2 str to one that gives +5 persuade) before talking to someone would be rather obvious.

The animation thing would get old really fast...

I think the animation/timing thing would be awesome but it would definitely take much more work to implement so I would think the first level would be to be able to save and switch the configurations and then later the animations and timing could be added in as work was available.
