Layonara MMO Please use this forum to discuss the Layonara MMO.

Welcome to the Layonara forums!

Layonara is so much more than a game. We started off as a tabletop Dungeons and Dragons campaign more than a decade ago. Since then we have developed into a fantasy world with as much compelling and engrossing detail as you will find anywhere.

Our current showcase is a Neverwinter Nights version of Layonara, where our world comes to life in a finely polished persistent world which you can play free of charge. These forums are set up to support and accentuate our player's experiences, but it goes far beyond that.

After years of passionate effort, our world is so well developed, so detailed, so refined that any of the handbooks, maps, historical accounts, legends, descriptions of artifacts, creature reports, character biographies, short stories, novels, movies and original art which populate these forums can surely serve as resources or inspiration for your own fantasy endeavors, whatever they may be. And our world is endlessly evolving, so resources are frequently added and updated.

There are also years of sage advice and commentary on role-playing, gaming and online community development stored in these forums. If camaraderie is what you seek, we offer that too. Our community is as active and supportive as you're likely to find on the internet. In short, these forums are a resource for you to use for whatever purpose or project brought you here.

We're confident that you will find what you are looking for, and likely, substantially more.

Please be our guest and browse around the forums which are available to you. As you do, keep in mind that you are sampling only a portion of what Layonara has to offer. Membership in our community is free, and allows you to establish a Layonara identity to pose your questions and share your thoughts on the forums. When you join you'll also be able to communicate privately to other members (PMs), establish and respond to polls, upload and download content and access many other special features. Default Music in Layonara

In our opinion music is core to the acceptance of any game within any genre. It is very important that the music fits the game-play, game-style, as well as the world. We were very lucky to find Jason (Eon Blue). He has immense talent and a deep dedication to the creation of quality music for all to enjoy.

Here are three tracks that he has created for Layonara. Enjoy!

http://layonara.com/share/music/Track2_Choir.mp3
http://layonara.com/share/music/Track3_D_Ambience.mp3

A little about Jason:
Music has been a passion of mine since I was little. Growing up in rural Ohio I didn't have many musical outlets available to me and spent most of my time annoying my parents with guitar noise and imagining I was a rock star. The more I listened to music, the more I wanted to advance beyond the three chord guitar rock and learn everything I could. I quickly found out that there is a whole lot to learn! I've had many personal teachers, read more books than I could count, completed a two year course through Berklee College of Music, and still feel I'm in the 'hobby' stages. But I've loved every minute of it.

The last few years have seen a huge explosion in music technology making it possible for an average person to create and record music that was previously available to only a select few. Ten years ago, in order to create an orchestral soundtrack you had to have access to an orchestra and recording studio. Now it just takes a computer and a couple pieces of software. It's an incredible feeling to sit down at your computer, write a few notes, and immediately hear an entire symphony play them.

In my case, it's allowed me to combine my passion for video games with my passion for music and led me to work with the layonara team. I'm very thankful for being given the opportunity to be involved with this project. It's been a blessing to work with so many talented individuals. I think the end result is going to blow everyone's socks off!

This music is insane. I've been a music major for six years from 7th-12th grade, and even in knowing all this musical vocabulary the only thing my head wants to say right now is wow.....That choir track especially.

Great stuff You really found some awesome musical talent there!

Good luck with the game stuff, hope its going well for you guys

*pops back out for now*

The music sounds great, and I agree the choir track sounds especially nice, but...

Any idea how much music there will be, and when will it be played?

Personally, it doesn't matter how good the music in a game is, if it's like most games, where the track switches frequently (for instance, different track when you enter battle, then switches to the beginning of the "area" track,, then back to the beginning of battle music each time you fight something), I get tired of it quickly, and use my own music instead...
The same is true if there is not enough music... given how much many of us will play the, unless there is a -lot- of music, I'm sure I'm not the only one who will get bored and listen to my own music instead.

(I'm not meaning to be a downer here, or intended any disrespect to the musician, whose pieces sound really great from the sample)

I played a game several years ago that had a nice but repetitive piece of music that played very often. Some clever fellow took the music file, added a long gap at the end filled with occasional ambient sounds to match the game's visuals, changed the music to fade in and fade out instead of just start abruptly and loop, and then posted it so others could try it out. It was a big improvement.

I don't know if that would be a good idea for the MMO, but it worked for a game that had you in the same place a lot.

I like his style. Very chamber music influenced with a driving beat. Reminds me of Arcana.

That Music sounds pretty Good. And that Choir one is pretty cool.

One thing that would be cool for the MMO is that if DMs/GMs can Set the Music to what they want when running a quest, like get something fitting the situation on while he runs his quest.
