| Layonara MMO Please use this forum to discuss the Layonara MMO. | | Welcome to the Layonara forums!
Layonara is so much more than a game. We started off as a tabletop Dungeons and Dragons campaign more than a decade ago. Since then we have developed into a fantasy world with as much compelling and engrossing detail as you will find anywhere.
Our current showcase is a Neverwinter Nights version of Layonara, where our world comes to life in a finely polished persistent world which you can play free of charge. These forums are set up to support and accentuate our player's experiences, but it goes far beyond that.
After years of passionate effort, our world is so well developed, so detailed, so refined that any of the handbooks, maps, historical accounts, legends, descriptions of artifacts, creature reports, character biographies, short stories, novels, movies and original art which populate these forums can surely serve as resources or inspiration for your own fantasy endeavors, whatever they may be. And our world is endlessly evolving, so resources are frequently added and updated.
There are also years of sage advice and commentary on role-playing, gaming and online community development stored in these forums. If camaraderie is what you seek, we offer that too. Our community is as active and supportive as you're likely to find on the internet. In short, these forums are a resource for you to use for whatever purpose or project brought you here.
We're confident that you will find what you are looking for, and likely, substantially more.
Please be our guest and browse around the forums which are available to you. As you do, keep in mind that you are sampling only a portion of what Layonara has to offer. Membership in our community is free, and allows you to establish a Layonara identity to pose your questions and share your thoughts on the forums. | transfer Here is something I have been wondering. once the new MMO is out, can we transfer characters we made? Levels and all? (minus the few changes to skills to add to the char's flavor) Or will we have to start from scratch? just some food for thought... (food for my thought! )

| Re: transfer I'd check out the FAQ. Quote:
Will my character be able to re-created in this project?
This is a complicated question that is difficult to address without getting more into detail about the project. Characters will not be transferred over from NWN in any way of that we are certain.
| Regarding the difficult to answer part, I think that was because NWN is class-based, and the MMO is skill-based. So at the time, before that was announced, it was likely hard to say. You can probably cobble together an equivalent to most classes by taking the appropriate skills and attributes and such, but you're not going to have a class really. At most probably a nice pre-package of skills to simulate it. A cool add-on, whether dev or community made, would be class simulations for all of our NWN classes by pre-assigning them, for those that like the simplicity of the recommended button (Edit to add link)

| Re: transfer now, new question. No transfers, got it. but can we re-incarnate our characters? (Ideas run thin sometimes... ) Start from scratch with original bios? just a new journal?

| Re: transfer Bear in mind that the game (at least initially) will center around three islands, and will likely be set some distance in the future.
As such, most bios will have to be dramatically altered to fit with the new setting and the new time. Characters could almost certainly be re-created, but they'd have to be reimagined first.

| Re: transfer It's important to say that any ideas of what will be permitted in terms of "restarting" existing characters is purely speculation at this point. We've made no official statement regarding the timeline nor the administrative probability of allowing characters with the same names and backgrounds as existing characters.
We've had only light discussions on this point at this time, and as with many things related to this project, it's subject to change. | | | | The Following User Says Thank You to Dorganath For This Useful Post: | |

| Re: transfer I don't mean to cause any trouble by saying this and don't mean to start any arguments but I do want to express my opinion.. I do hope you make everyone start again at zero. A fresh start should be a fresh start.
Of course everyone should have the opportunity to restart or recreate a character they love (or make a descendant of their NWN characters if they wish) but I can't imagine anything worse than joining a brand new game and finding there's a private club of epic characters already there on day one. Among other things it would be a huge and unwelcoming turn off to new players.

Our difficulty in making decisions on existing characters will be things like timeline conflicts messing with historical accuracy, existing reputations and titles, life expectancy and such.

Of course this can be asked in terms of a journal.

| Re: transfer true, But it was just a thought. of course, Now That I think of it, what races can a person play? are there going to be any fundamental changes in them? how will RP be enforced? I there are no more character submissions, I suspect people will jump in playing it like it is FR, and have no idea about Layo and what it is....
I don't expect answers, just wanted to put those questions out there.
