| Layonara MMO Please use this forum to discuss the Layonara MMO. | | Welcome to the Layonara forums!
Layonara is so much more than a game. We started off as a tabletop Dungeons and Dragons campaign more than a decade ago. Since then we have developed into a fantasy world with as much compelling and engrossing detail as you will find anywhere.
Our current showcase is a Neverwinter Nights version of Layonara, where our world comes to life in a finely polished persistent world which you can play free of charge. These forums are set up to support and accentuate our player's experiences, but it goes far beyond that.
After years of passionate effort, our world is so well developed, so detailed, so refined that any of the handbooks, maps, historical accounts, legends, descriptions of artifacts, creature reports, character biographies, short stories, novels, movies and original art which populate these forums can surely serve as resources or inspiration for your own fantasy endeavors, whatever they may be. And our world is endlessly evolving, so resources are frequently added and updated.
There are also years of sage advice and commentary on role-playing, gaming and online community development stored in these forums. If camaraderie is what you seek, we offer that too. Our community is as active and supportive as you're likely to find on the internet. In short, these forums are a resource for you to use for whatever purpose or project brought you here.
We're confident that you will find what you are looking for, and likely, substantially more.
Please be our guest and browse around the forums which are available to you. As you do, keep in mind that you are sampling only a portion of what Layonara has to offer. Membership in our community is free, and allows you to establish a Layonara identity to pose your questions and share your thoughts on the forums. When you join you'll also be able to communicate privately to other members (PMs), establish and respond to polls, upload and download content and access many other special features. | Permadeath idea My thought was having the soul expressed as percentage. Starting at 100% each death would remove a percentage based upon one quarter of a level, rounded down, at a variable degree.
For example a level 10 character would loose 1-2 percent of their soul.
A level 20 character would loose 1-5 percent of their soul.
There should be a way to regain the souls strength by doing deeds for a god, and so on. The strength of the soul could even have a significant impact on the strength of certain abilities. Healing magic could be altered based upon the percentage.
Another example: If you have 85% of your soul, the heal spell which would normally give you 60hp now only heals 51 health.
The way in which you return to life could have a bonus as well. Such as regaining 1% from your bindstone, or having a 50% bonus for waiting to be raised. | | | | The Following User Says Thank You to Eight-Bit For This Useful Post: | |

| Re: Permadeath idea From a higher level perspective I think a permadeath progression system on a pay to play world is just a bad business idea.
I would rather see something along the lines of aging and sacrifice. By sacrifice I mean that there are times on important quests where a PC has to make a choice for the greater good and perhaps heroically sacrifice herself to save her friends. Make the permadeath mean something not just a slow progression toward the end.

Rather than just a looming number that is ever increasing, this idea factors it into game mechanics and makes it at least significant, other than the number of tickets you've collected for the big ride to instant dissatisfaction.

| Re: Permadeath idea Not going to get into the whole design or the lore, but I just wanted to make it known that there will be means to restore soul strands. Such a task won't come incredibly easy but it also isn't going to be something only a select couple will end up being able to do. For the most part, this will be an option to everyone.

| Re: Permadeath idea Hehe...no it won't.
Truth be told, I was going to put in a system for it for NWN, but there's just not the time and resources to code it up and find the right balance of things. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
