Welcome to the Layonara forums!

Layonara is so much more than a game. We started off as a tabletop Dungeons and Dragons campaign more than a decade ago. Since then we have developed into a fantasy world with as much compelling and engrossing detail as you will find anywhere.

Our current showcase is a Neverwinter Nights version of Layonara, where our world comes to life in a finely polished persistent world which you can play free of charge. These forums are set up to support and accentuate our player's experiences, but it goes far beyond that.

After years of passionate effort, our world is so well developed, so detailed, so refined that any of the handbooks, maps, historical accounts, legends, descriptions of artifacts, creature reports, character biographies, short stories, novels, movies and original art which populate these forums can surely serve as resources or inspiration for your own fantasy endeavors, whatever they may be. And our world is endlessly evolving, so resources are frequently added and updated.

There are also years of sage advice and commentary on role-playing, gaming and online community development stored in these forums. If camaraderie is what you seek, we offer that too. Our community is as active and supportive as you're likely to find on the internet. In short, these forums are a resource for you to use for whatever purpose or project brought you here.

We're confident that you will find what you are looking for, and likely, substantially more.

Please be our guest and browse around the forums which are available to you. As you do, keep in mind that you are sampling only a portion of what Layonara has to offer. Membership in our community is free, and allows you to establish a Layonara identity to pose your questions and share your thoughts on the forums. [CHAT WINDOW TEXT] [Tue Dec 19 09:48:50] Ashley Mensbrough: *He nods.* Shut the door behind you if you don't mind, it can get a bit drafty in here!

And this whole section is yellow....

[CHAT WINDOW TEXT] [Tue Dec 19 09:48:08] Ashley Mensbrough: *He flips over a couple pages following another small line heading north and east.* Now if you go this way, I've heard that there is supposed to be some tower here. Some say a very powerful lady lives there. *He taps the coastline where a small picture of a tower is.* But who knows if that is true or not. The place is in a number of books I have read, none of them very happy stories.

[CHAT WINDOW TEXT] [Tue Dec 19 09:46:51] Damien Oneknife: Do you have a map of the city? [CHAT WINDOW TEXT] [Tue Dec 19 09:46:51] Ashley Mensbrough: *He shakes his head, and twists his moustache a bit with his free hand.* These maps are more general than that. They contain the locations of towns and areas of interest. Some places I have traveled to, some I read tales about and want to go to. I make my own little maps from other big ones you would find around. *He smiles proudly.* I had another section to the conversation that gets him pulling out another book with small maps in it. I think this question needs to be hooked to that response first, before this one, or this one needs to be edited. Because you don't really get where he is getting these maps from otherwise... Edit: It was something like this... *He smiles kindly, and deftly drops the book he's been writing in into a pocket. He pats himself a couple times as if looking for another pocket* I do have my personal traveling map, in a pocket here somewhere. Oh right it's here. *He digs deeply into a pocket, almost up to his elbow, and pulls out a well worn book. It almost looks like it will fall apart when he opens it* Is there a specific region you are interested in? Edit again: Actually looking back I think it would be better to edit it...maybe add something like '*He lowers his hand and taps it on his book*' between the first two sentences. So it looks like this '*He shakes his head, and twists his moustache a bit with his free hand.* These maps are more general than that. *He lowers his hand and taps it on his book* They contain the locations of towns and areas of interest. Some places I have traveled to, some I read tales about and want to go to. I make my own little maps from other big ones you would find around. *He smiles proudly.*

[CHAT WINDOW TEXT] [Tue Dec 19 09:46:18] Damien Oneknife: So you let them operate freely?
[CHAT WINDOW TEXT] [Tue Dec 19 09:46:18] Ashley Mensbrough: I'm just the librarian really. *He shuffles the order of a stack of papers.* I don't think their operations would be much inhibited by anything I would do!
[CHAT WINDOW TEXT] [Tue Dec 19 09:46:26] Damien Oneknife: Seems sensible enough to me. You wouldn't want to get hurt.
[CHAT WINDOW TEXT] [Tue Dec 19 09:46:26] Ashley Mensbrough: *Nods enthusiastically.*
[CHAT WINDOW TEXT] [Tue Dec 19 09:46:30] Damien Oneknife: I'd like to ask you about something else.

In here I believe you've used some of the responses from the lieutenants? conversation. 'So you let them operate freely?' and 'Seems sensible enough to me. You wouldn't want to get hurt.' are both from when you get the thief quest. All the other responses in here too I think are from there, must have gotten through from the merge of the two .erf's....did I mention I was sorry about that? :) Anyways not sure what you want to do here but I think some things, wording wise, should be changed to make it the librarians own conversation.

This was a compromise due to conversation flow and not spending way too long on a minor point. The way the convo loops, if I put it in he would be getting the maps out every time you said "I want to ask about something else" either that or the PC would have to ask him if he had a map every time to ask these questions. I didn't really like either solution and certainly didn't want to worry about doing a "first time only" line which would require me to make two conditional conversation branches. The compromise is glossing over the point where he pulls out the map.

Yeah I kinda got that when I went back and looked. So the edit to make this 'looped to' section read like the paragraph above would cover it a little better IMO I bolded the added/changed part. This way when it loops he's drawing attention to his book in his hands. If it's the first time through it'll be the one he pulls out, if it's not he'll have a book in his hands anyways and bring the characters attention to it. The original way just seemed too clunky, really my first time doing a whole conversation so I didn't catch how bad it was until I was in game and going through it. I think that's all that really needs to be changed for this part.
