Favored Enemy

Quick question,

Favored Enemy is unique to three classes. Ranger, Scout and Undead Slayer.

Would there bonuses stack or are they separates somehow?

According to Bioware, favoured enemy bonuses stack.

You probably already read this but still. Only the ranger favored enemy improves with level. That means that the bonuses will improve every five level of ranger you take. Although if my memory serves, you can't take the same favored enemy twice (I could be wrong on this though). The mistone alliance scout can only take 2 favored enemy and they do not improve with levels, and the undead slayer  can only take one (favored enemy undead) which doesn't improve either with level. And if I'm not mistaken, if you already have taken favored enemy undead as a ranger, you don't get a double benefit from it from your undead slayer side.

but what if you don't chose undead as ranger and become an undead slayer? Would the bonus stack or just be +1 against undead?

I don't think they stack since its the same feat with the same favored enemy, in third edition usually the same bonus doesn't stack. ( being dodge the obvious exception on AC department )

If you don't chose the undead as a ranger favored enemy then you will get the +1 for all bonuses against it as an undead slayer, but they will not improve over time. On the other side of things. If you take it as a ranger, you will not get a +1 (ranger) +1 ( undead slayer) to the bonus vs undeads but the one for the ranger will go up 1 points each five levels you take as a ranger.

I'm not sure what you mean here, Hellblazer, but it may not be true.

According to Bioware, if you take a favoured enemy as a Harper Scout, and the same favoured enemy as a Ranger, the bonuses stack.  Since the bonuses operate identically for Layonara's custom prestige classes, it's safe to assume that if you took Favoured Enemy (undead) as a Ranger and then became an Undead Slayer, you would get both bonuses.

Referring to his second question where he makes the hypothesis of Not taking the favored enemy undead as a ranger.

If he doesn't take it as a ranger or scout and only as undead slayer, then they don't stack at all and they don't improve over time as only the one of the rangers improve.

Once I got the game reinstall tonight (tired of seeing everything white) I'll be trying this (at least with the harper scout)

Awww, kinda hoped it did. Guess better to take as ranger then... if one was to be a ranger/cleric/undead slayer (US req. turn undead)

Would have tried with herper scout myself... if I had a computer to try it with (lost mine and on temp now. :(  )

Hey drako, sorry to come back to you late with this but It had slipped out of my head.

I tested just a few minutes ago the proposed Ranger/Scout. As you take the favored undead with the ranger, you don't get to be able to take it as a Scout. The favored enemy: Undead is not available to be taken.

I had to test this with shadow of the underdark as it enables you to level your character.

Anyhow Unless they changed this in Layo, you wouldn't be able to take favorered enemy: Undead with a Ranger and also with the Scout at the same time.

Wonder what happens if you take Undead Hunter, when you already have favored enemy undead from a ranger level. I think it should stack in that occasion?

I wasn't able to test it as in the stock NWN undead hunter is not a class. Would have to be tested with Layo's hacks. But if my previous test is any indication and that they didn't change how Favored Enemy is coded. Then I'd say you wouldn't be able to choose it as it wouldn't be available to be picked if you had already picked it once with the other class. But agian, can't say for sure since I can't test it.

If you make a module with the Layo [THREAD=228802]hakpacks[/THREAD] (remember to add the latest Layo TLK file), you can level up thus:

Code: [Select]
`
DebugMode 1
`
dm_givelevel 39
*click on your character*

I thought there was something missing about that technique where you didn't get all the prc and stuff? But I'll try it to test it.

Our scripts are likely required to get the full benefit of a given PrC, as many properties are applied in the same way as a subrace: through a creature skin object.

Hopefully these particular feats have been implemented in the straightest forwardest manner.

I don't think we adjusted how they work.  This particular combination (Ranger + Undead Slayer) is not one that has been put forth yet, I don't think, perhaps partly because it doesn't make as much RP sense as other Undead Slayer combinations, so whether one would get Favored Enemy from both classes has never been directly verified.

That said, there's only one Favored Enemy: Undead feat, and there's nothing I see that would allow Favored Enemy: Undead to be taken more than once, so in that context I would put forth an educated guess that taking Favored Enemy: Undead as a Ranger would mean the free Favored Enemy: Undead from the Undead Slayer would in fact result in a wasted feat.
