Does Eternal Foe protect against Quivering Palm?

I don't think there's any reason why it should: quivering palm is not negative damage, death magic, level/energy drain, poison, nor disease. But if you have a character level 23 or below who can cast it, I'd be happy to test it in the arena with you.

The only thing that protects from quivering palm is a high fort save.

Well to be exact there are additional, albeit rare, protections:
- if you're in undead form (immune to criticals)
- if you're in construct form (immune to criticals)
- if you're a palemaster (immune to criticals)

Otherwise, yes, fort save is your friend.

Or if you are at least as high a level as your attacker, you are also immune.

sooo... 40th lvl characters are immune to QP from other PCs (since monsters can actually become "higher" level)? I would have thought that particular caveat to have been nixed in a bioware update.

Rolls of 1 are not considered automatic failures on saves :)

Thanks all. Very helpful. Couple follow ups.

Does immunity from criticals make you immune to QP?

Finally, how would a Possessed Root know QP? Arggghh!!!

(the last one was not a question, just a frustration :)

The short answer is "yes."

Looks like the LORE page is in fact accurate to what's been discussed in this thread.

The Possessed Root has 25 levels of monk.  That's how.  ;)

I need to know what area this creature was found.  I did some GM testing with the one in the palette and it does not have the feat "Quivering Palm" listed in it's character sheet although many of the other monsters and NPC's having monk levels certainly does have the feat.  The only requirement is 15 levels of monk and it should be automatic.  Also, I did get a Possessed Root to attack me 1x using quivering palm, but I missed the saving throw since I was not possessing the creature it attacked with it at the time.

Testing this further.

I would think Dwarven Defenders would also be immune per the Defensive Awareness feat rendering them immune to sneak attacks.

Quivering Palm is not a sneak attack. It is a super natural feat. There is nothing sneaky about it. Most fighter types have a high enough Fort save to stop the quivering palm. It is the mage types that need to worry about it.

Most who are immune to sneak are also immune to critical hits.. At least that was my understanding?

The Possessed Root in the deep is a specially bred one... it has the feat "Quivering Palm".  The one in the toolset that DM's can spawn does not have the feat.

That's a generalization that holds true with most NPC monsters, but most certainly not with Player Characters.

Dwarven Defenders are immune to sneak attacks if they themselves are active in combat and not hindered in any manner. Other than that they still can be sneak attacked and most certainly critically hit (PvP).

Beyond item properties, the only critical immunity that can be obtained with a class, excluding shifted forms, is through the Palemaster PrC.
